FRINGE AMERICAN PALE ALE is a dry, pale golden, 5.3%, hoppy pale ale using Ella hops. The dryness and soft body are driven home by an almost dank melon-like character. If you just read the last sentence and thought “my goodness that doesn’t sound like a Pretty Things beer”, then this one truly is our “fringe” beer. Fringe is the sort of beer you crack a bit cool on a hot day in the yard. Don’t save it for a rainy day though – drink it now. We’re brewing another batch in a week (after we’re back from serving our beers at Boulevardia in Kansas City).

22oz bottle dated June 2015 poured into a pint glass
A: Light orange, light bubbles and a one-finger head
S: I do get the melon. Also tropical fruit, a bit of honey and a bit of citrus
T: They mention the musk and it comes through here. The nose smells nice, this isn't necessarily bad but somewhat dank.A bit of melon & pine. Maybe drinking it six months ago would have helped but with the overall score I'm not sure
M: Light-bodied, dry
O: Overall so-so but I'm certainly glad I got to try something from this brewery

I'm Bumbed to hear of Pretty Things retiring, so I went out and got all I can find from them. I found this bomber dated June 2015. Looks good, slightly cloudy light honey color with average head leaving lacing on sides. Smells a little off, somewhat sour and citrusy smelling. Tastes very good. Lots of hop bitterness. Well balanced malt and hop with a nice citrus backbone. Light and dry. Very good take on an American Pale Ale. Well done. Hope the recipe gets past on.

The beer pours with a hazy orange appearance and it settles with a thin but foamy head. Had some grapefruit aromas with a mix of spicy hops, some light malts, and and some grain. Definitely bittersweet with that grapefruit flavor but it has a bit of sugary flavors, like honey and various spices, added to it. Clean and crisp mouthfeel thanks to its great carbonation. Overall, I enjoyed the body to this drink and it's spicy grapefruit aromas.

Bottled 6/2015.
Pours a hazy golden-orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of citrus fruit, citrus zest, grapefruit juice, and honey aromas. Taste is much the same with earth, grass, citrus zest, and slight grapefruit juice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a great smell and solid but straightforward flavors.
Serving type: bottle.

Pours a relatively clear medium gold with a nice thick and fluffy, long lasting white head.
Nose is white pepper, hints of green herbs and seemingly (for me) true to style. Mouthfeel is medium carbonation with nice balance.
Flavor profile is quite bitter but in a pleasant "drinkable" way. Nice balance and quite inviting.
Finish is a green herb bitter that is appealing. Good one for most food profiles.
