Bomber from the first batch in April '09. Pours a very dark, cloudy brown with a small light beige head that doesn't really last. Smells of bready, fruity, and even tangy yeast; pretty reminiscent of Chimay Première, actually. A wee bit of chocolate/roastiness. Sweet overall. The taste has all of the same characteristics; a doughy but fruity yeast presence, along with a good amount of sweet, dark malt. Brown sugar. Very sweet finish that leaves a rather cloying aftertaste; kind of like Cracker Jacks. Warming. Full body. Too sweet, though I guess that keeps with the style.

A - Great pour, with a dark auburn tint to it. Thick foam with quickly dissipates as you pour.

S - Refreshing crisp smell, almost like ripening fruit.

T - Really sweet taste that lingers on your tongue. Not overwhelming, yet very refreshing.

M - Not heavy or thick, but it has a quality to it that hangs around your tastebuds.

O - Really nice ale, from great brewers. Pretty Things has put out another winner.

Poured into tulip

A: Pours a deep mahogany with hints of ruby when held to light with a large, creamy, khaki, 3 finger head

S: Fruity and musty attic aromas, with hints of earth and clove.

T: Rich plum, apricot, and cherry flavors up front with slight funky Belgian yeast tones underneath. Barnyard flavors are there, but very subtle. Very little in the way of hops, but a slight old-world hop bitterness lasts in the finish along with black cherry tones.

M: Slightly viscous body with mild to low carbonation.

O: This is an excellent example of an American produced quad. Fruity and rich; this beer is a great after dinner sipper. Pretty Things hits a home run with Baby Tree. If you’re a fan of dark Belgian or Trappist beers, this is definitely worth picking up.

A - Poured into the center of a St. Bernardus chalice. The beer takes on a deep brown hue, with a surprisingly thin head. The head recedes to pretty much nothing after a while, leaving little to no lacing on the glass. I noticed just a little bit of visible carbonation. Tough to spot through this dark, somewhat cloudy beer.

S - Nice aromas that I associate with a quad, albeit a little lighter. Dark fruit is dominant, but there is also a little indistinct sweetness.

T - Again, all the tastes that one would expect, and follows the nose fairly closely. Dark fruit again dominates, the sweetness is a little more distinct here, mild, but something like caramel. There is also a touch of alcohol on the finish.

M - The weakest area of this beer for me. Much thinner than I would expect, and without real supporting carbonation. Finishes clean. Slight dryness and alcohol heat.

O - Nice beer. It doesn't stack up with the best, but I certainly wouldn't turn one down.
