What wonderful little beer store in the Historic District of Charleston. Excellent service as the guy (I didn't get his name) walked me around the store and showed me what bottles I couldn't get in NC and talked about the locals. They also do growler fills in the store. I came home with a growler of the Coast Belgian PA. Selection is probably the best in the state. I haven't visited all of the major beer stores in SC but it's the best I've been too. I don't really have a lot to compare the prices too but they seemed reasonable to me. They sell singles of all of their beers and let you break sixers too. Also he offered great advice on local beer bars to visit and even mentioned that they may open one up in Charleston. If you are in the Charleston area and can only make one stop for beer then it should be the Charleston Beer Exchange.

Charleston Beer Exchange is a tiny little shop on a side street that I nearly stumbled past until a friend pointed it out. The building looks like one of the first built in the city and a small square sign let's you know where you are. Although the store is small there's not a foot of wasted space. A shelf of NC/SC locals is the first to greet you as you enter. Past that is a small 5 or 6 tap growler station then the bank of coolers, 5 or 6 doors. The rest of Americas offerings are followed by Scandinavian, Belgian, German, English, and other imports in a small aisle.

As I said, there couldn't be better use of the space. The options are plentiful and the staff is quick to lend tips and thoughts, holding nothing back. The staff is helpful and fun to talk to. The prices are right in line with other places I stopped on my travels. The seasonal selection was stacked. I was very happy with my stop in, especially after hearing so much about them in the past, it lived up to expectations. Highly recommended.
