Black reddish color with a thin head with low retention.
Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, pine, vanilla, caramel and licorice.
Flavor of roasted coffee, caramels, earthy and grassy hops, licorice, cola, a mild citrus berry and mint, some smoked and woody notes and peppery yeast. Mildly dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness and a lasting residual taste. Stated 40ish IBUs seem right.
Light to medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 9% abv seems lower, and it is not warming it just adds taste to it. Sticky feeling.
It has a relatively good drinkability considering its high alcohol content and bold flavor for a Porter (though expected for an AIP). This exemplar was less aggressive than the first one I had, it matured well gaining some complexity and rounding edges.

Nice brazilian Porter of a deep black color and a small yellowish foam.
Smell is alcoholic, easy to feel the Amburana tones. Roasted malts could be more evident.
Amburana wood and roasted malts are also the highlights in the taste. Chocolate and a bit of coffe come in the end. There's also a small cherry tone here, really nice.
You can also feel the brown sugar, in the end of the degustation, I chewed a sugar granule.
Body and carbonation should be large. Instead of balancing the alcohol level, they're at a point that makes the beer almost a liqueur. Altogether with the Amburana tones, it reminds a bit of cachaça.

I've also drank Amburana Lager, by Way Beer (a Double Bock) and I guess Amburana woods are better with lagers. Can't be sure but it's the impression I have.

The second of four labels from the "Serie Extrema" that I get to try, an American Imperial Porter matured in umburana wood. 355 ml bottle from Ricardo via Sergio (thanks guys!), on to the beer:

It's nearly black, but closer to cola black with reddish hues. It smells like cherry wood and brown sugar, but ironically, keeping with the cola theme, has some notes of Cherry Coke.

Brown sugar, moderate roastiness, and a touch of chocolate lead the way for this Brazilian porter. The overall flavor isn't nearly as amplfied as one may expect for a beer of this size, but at least the alcohol content is hidden well. It's a medium bodied beer with a moderate level of carbonation.

Not quite at the high level as some of the American-made creations, though Bravo is still a respectable beer.

355ml bottled served in a kind of Thumbler glass.

Bottle art looks like a reference to the American Flying Dog brewery beers.
This beer is part of the "extreme series" produced by Backer, a brewery located in the state of Minas Gerais - Brazil.
It's a 9% ABV American Porter aged in Umburana (a very common Brazilian tree) barrels. The name Umburana comes from tupi-guarani, which was the language used by the big majority of the native brazilian indians before the arrival of Europeans. Umburana means something like "wood that produces water" and is commonly used to build cachaça barrels and goods, and Its seeds: food, medical and luxury related products.

A: Pours a very dark brown (almost black) colour, forming a small and thin bubbled beige head. Low retention and many thin, molasses and lingering lacings formed in the glass

S: Peculiar smell: Quite spicy and woody. Mix of roasted malts, Umburana wood (which gives notes of vanilla and cinnamon notes). Notes of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, caramel malts, American piny hops and dark fruit esters

T: Slightly sweet upfront. Roasted malts, wood, coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, vanilla, grassy and skunky hops. Good 42.5 IBU bitterness that fits quite well

M: Full body. Medium to low carbonation. Woody and roasted aftertaste

O: Good drinkability. Great Porter. Full of personality. Big hooray for Três Lobos!

A: Pours a dark brown with a light off-white head, spotty lace.

S: Cherry bark, red fruit, wood and cola. Unique nose.

T: A tad boozy initially with a mild phenol problem. Overall the beer has a solid dark chocolate taste, with notes of red currants.

M: Medium-bodied, with a soft carbonation, frothy. Nowhere near as big as I'd expect for 9%.

O: An interesting beer, I've never had one aged in this kind of wood before. Worth a shot for the uniqueness.
