pilsen. one of three similarly styled beers readily available in Uruguay; i tended to prefer this one over Patricia and Nortena, though they could be interchangeable like bud, miller, and coors.
appearance is golden-yellow with a tight white head and medium bubbles. i get a faint hint of cereal grain in the nose, but very little overall. this is straight up pilsener style beer found all over south and central america. somewhat crisp, but with a note of sweetness on the back. very easy to drink while cold (no surprise), and reasonably priced at around $2.50 per liter at the corner shops. this beer has more body and bite than the american macros, but in the end it fulfills the same roll: accessible beer for the masses that quenches thirst, delivers alcohol, and doesn't make you think.

Nov. 2014: Shared bottle at local tasting. ABV is 5.1%. Golden colour, low white head. Sweetish floral and grassy aroma, hints of yellow apples. Light bodied. Some sweetness in the flavour, very moderate hops. Not undrinkable though.

340 ml bottle. Pours golden with long lasting foamy white head. Aroma is of grassy hops and grain. Body is medium and slightly crisp. Taste is of slight herbal hops and grain. Finish is long and almost dry. Drinkable brew on hot day.

From estucerveza. In Teku glass. Playing Broken Age. Light body but enough bitterness to not feel watery. Some white grapes, reminding a cava, dry, with light lemony/funk notes. No foam at all.

Pours a golden clear body with big white head that disappeared almost completely

Overly sweet (too much corn?) Both aroma and taste are candy sweet, , not much else about his is memorable, not even refreshing, something that warm weather brew usually have going for them. Skip this one (unless you’re in Montevideo)

Pilsen is like Uruguay's Budweiser (I hope it is a reasonable comparison). However, in my opinion it is much less harsh, and easier to drink thank Budweiser. I think this is a solid no nonsense beer for any occasion. Much better than the mass produced American Lagers like MGD, and Miller.

Very clean refreshing beer. It paired well with grilled chicken steak, pasta, and seafood while in Uruguay. A very easy to drink pilsener, and although not an amazing or complicated in taste or texture.
