750 ml bottle equipped with a rubbery 'cork' that was exceptionally hard to remove. Served in a Belgian snifter.
A - red-brown color, lightly hazy; fairly durable tan head; spotty lacing.
Aroma - Spiced bread, Belgian yeast and an abundance of dark fruit. Jubilaris has a solidified aroma with plenty of complexity. In addition to such usual features as raisins and brown spices, these are hints of red grape juice and white pepper.
Flavor: Mainly brown bread and dark fruits with some complex spiciness. Hints of chocolate, raisns, dried plums and grape juice. The finish is a touch more bitter than expected.
M - Crisp carbonation; medium-light body seems too thin; dry finish.
O - As a special Jubilaris brew from a world class Trappist brewery, this ale is a little disappointing in regard to feel and flavor. But at only 6% ABV this is still an outstanding "big" Belgian brown.

750ml bottle into a teku. 2013 release, so 9 years in the bottle.
Interesting but mixed look. Dark maroon brown body, faintly hazy at first, murky with the last 2 pours. A small off white head fizzes away quite quickly, leaving only spots of lacing.
Dark dried fruit aroma, manages to smell a little sour.
On tasting, the nose is confirmed. Sourness prominent, even a little bitter after the last few ounces are poured. However, the dried fruit notes continue, if they had been a little stronger, a very nice balance would have been achieved.
Mouth is light and on the thin side of medium. Finish leaves a sour bitterness on the tongue.
Overall, while not an unpleasant drink, I would guess that age has not served this one well.

Look: Pours a hazy, translucent dark ruby with a mud brown tinge and a faint amber glow. This is topped with an off-white and very bubbly one-finger head that dissipates rapidly into a thin splotchy film surrounded by a faint ring at the edges and with little to no lacing. Eventually, this disappears entirely until no head or foam of any kind is remaining. There are also some very fine particles of sediment clumping together towards the bottom.
Smell: Musty Belgian yeast right off the bat, followed by a bizarre yet very subtle backdrop of something along the lines of dog fur, wet soil, and rubber, but not in an unpleasant way. This transitions into a dominant vanilla with some caramel. Dark chocolate covered raisins, grainy bread, clove, and some pepper become detectable upon further inspection and are increasingly distinguishable. Subsequent approaches reveal a bouquet of apples and orchard fruit; something new every time it seems.
Taste: The musty yeast shows up again, but not nearly as potent this time. Grainy breads, brown spices, and some earthiness at the forefront, accompanied by an equally distinguishable sweetness dominating the middle ground and consisting of pecans, cherimoya, dried plums, grape skin, and an essence of pear. Subtle peppery notes are present in the background, as well as the initial tartness that you would experience when eating dried cranberries, and some caramel on the roof of the mouth. There is also a fair amount of tartness and bitterness that sneaks up as it sits in the mouth, and the whole thing ends with a very crisp, dry finish and a bitter aftertaste.
Feel: Very smooth with a light, arid feel from the small amount of carbonation, which seems to progressively "absorb" the sweetness and give way to a bitter and somewhat astringent coating on the tongue. The finish is very dry and tart, but with some lingering sweetness, and there are also some metallic tastes in the background along with a very mild warming in the throat from the alcohol.
Overall: The look offered some nice colors, but ultimately still seemed rather dull and left me with quite literally no froth or foam on the top, which is underwhelming considering it's a Belgian. The overall smell is decidedly complex yet fairly delicate, but with a broadly indistinct character. And similar to the smell, the taste offered some delightful variations and complexities, but nothing really stood out or "popped". So this is actually a very subtle beer; highly complex, but still very subtle. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's dull, because the subtle characters of the taste and aroma actually combine with the dry, crisp, tart finish to provide a very easy-drinking and delicate beer. Very nice overall, but not great.

750 ml bottle from Binnys. Nice all around Belgian Ale. Orchard fruit and yeast are dominant flavors, aroma too. Hazy brown with small soapy beige head.

Enjoyed form the bottle in a snifter glass. This fine Belgian dark pours a muddy ruby brown with a fantastic head of off white foam that dissipates to a thick ring and nice lacing. Nose of light brown sugar, musty Belgian yeast, plums, and light caramel. Flavors surpass the nose with brown sugars, lightly tart white grapes, earthy musty Belgian yeast, a dash of white pepper, a hint of coriander, and a moderate caramel note. A multi-layered monster with a moderately high carbonation that is fluffy and airy, as well as a lightly dry finish. This is an excellent ale that should really be labeled as a dubble considering taste and alcohol. Most excellent.

It pours a light-brown/amber color body with a beige foam that is not too big, but that leaves a nice lace.
Smell is typical from La Trappe, but not very strong in this beer. Sweet and yeasty, with notes of caramel.
Taste is really good, sweet and full of malty, yeasty and fruity notes. Caramel, chestnut honey and dark fruits are the highlights; some subtle grainy notes can also be found.
Body is relatively light, however crispy; carbonation and bitterness are at low level but for an odd reason, I think this beer has a pleasurable feel.

Pours a hazy, brown-tinted dark ruby, one finger of foamy cream colored head, settles to a thin ring. First inch of lace sticks. Smell: lightly buttered toasted raisin bread, plum, pear, peppery note. Taste: pear, plum, toasted brown bread, caramel, red grape, musty / tannic / oxidized notes. Medium bodied, low-moderate fluffy carbonation. Really nice!
