Bottle: stylish. Embossed brown 330mL bottle, very stylish label.
Appearance: moderate hazy brown colour. Nice off-white head with a good dose of lace on the edges of the glass.
Aroma: strong dark fruits, dates, figs and light caramel. Like sherry / port to wine. Seems fortified.
Taste: malt sweetness with spices. Cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon, rum and mocha. Warming alcohol.
Aftertaste: the warming alcohol remains, not at all unpleasant. Adds to the texture and the sensation, creates a secondary wave of flavours.
Mouth feel: a lovely, rich and creamy body. The carbonation is low also, allowing one to slowly sip this wonderful brew.
Overall: fantastic Belgian Quadrupel. Haven't had one before, but it kind of reminds me of how a port or a sherry is to wine - it is like a fortified beer - which it probably is, at 10% ABV. Only thing holding me back is the price - AU$116 per case in 2012. Ouch. To be honest though, it is in fact worth it.
