served in euro-style 11.2 oz. brown bottle with red and blue koeningshoeven label.
although this beer is called a "quadrupel," it wasn't nearly as "extreme" a beer as I expected. What i found was actually a nicely balanced and even restrained beer.
appearance is just great. a beautiful brown beer with ruby red coloring when held up to the light. head is tight and creamy and has good retention.
smell is of fruity aromas -- prunes and apricots are what i picked up, slightly carmelly aroma is there as well. alcohol is pretty well hidden in both the taste and aroma, actually.
taste is very very similar to ommegang ale, but slightly more restrained and less "in your face." it actually almost tasted like an aged bottle of ommegang. somewhat thick chewy maltiness pairs well with the fruity esters and alcoholic bite.
overall, a very drinkable ale for a 10-percenter. not really a very extreme beer once you get past the ABV. if you like ommegang, trois pistoles and a variety of belgian dubbels and brown ales, you'll probably like this one. if you love the fruitiness and complex maltiness of those styles, this oughta be your steez.

13oz draft pour at bier markt mississauga
a: deep orange/amber hue with half a finger of head
s: huge banana and vanilla up front. hints of maraschino cherries. alcohol is present
t: a melange of bananas, maraschino cherries, and vanilla to begin with. it's sweet all around but not offensively so. nice! but what i dislike here is the alcohol presence -- it's rather strong and makes the entire tasting feel medicinal. light spice on the back-end. dry finish
m: medium body, medium carbonation
o: this beer has a lovely aroma but the flavours are all ruined by the alcohol strength

Summer night in Sweden with a 750 ml bottle in the garden. This is love.
Do think the big bottle has much more taste and nose
If you want this and if you are in Scandinavia do make a stop in Denmark were the price is "very low" ~ 5 USD at most supermarkets.
