Poured from a 33cL bottle into a Koningshoeven chalice.

A: Creamy head. Translucent, woody beer. Some nice lacing.

S: Sticky-dark fruit with vague spiciness. A touch of cough syrup (or maybe maraschino cherry). Quadrupelly.

T/O: Mmm. I do so like quads. The dark, spicy, fruity, malty, sugary interplay is heavy and pleasant. Typical; nothing special, but an excellently executed beer. Highly recommended; will drink again.

M: An excellent mouthfeel; titillating.

A - Poured a darkish golden amber colour with off white creamy head that dissipates to a thin film.

S - Dark fruits such as plums, raisins, sweet candy and some toffee/caramel with hints of banana and clove spices.

T - Fairly boozy with the sweet candy and dark fruits quite prominent. A little yeasty/bready with caramel/toffee malts followed by spicey finish although slightly overpowered by the booziness.

M - Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation whilst remaining fairly smooth

O - A nice quad that definitely has a good balance of complex flavours but its booziness is a little too overpowering at the finish.

A: Somewhat cloudy amber/brown, lots of carbonation, big tannish white head that fades slightly but never quite disappears. Not much lacing.

S: That distinctive Belgian yeasty aroma mixed with dark fruits and some mild spiciness.

T/M: Rich dark fruit, with an underlying yeasty/bready taste that takes over by the end of each sip. A nice mix of sweet and spicy. Mouthfeel is fantastic, very smooth and coating with just a touch of prickliness from the carbonation.

O: A delicious, rich, big Belgian beer that hides its ABV really well.

Poured from 11.2 oz bottle into stemmed goblet glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep brownish amber orange. A little bit of sediment and a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid three finger off white head that slowly fades into a thin layer. Decent amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: A fruity and spicy aroma. Belgian yeast and caramel malts with some clove spice. Strong smell of dark dried fruits. Hints of Raisins, plums, and figs with some banana and apple. Candied sugar and a little rum like alcohol in the aroma. Hops are very faint. Smells very good.

Taste: A good mix of fruits and spice. Nice spicy kick up front with Belgian yeast and cloves along with some banana flavor. Following are some sweet bready caramel malts and candied sugar along with some apple. Big taste of dark fruits with some dried raisins, plums, figs, grapes, and dates. Very light hint of earthy hops in the finish. Nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy body with a moderate level of carbonation. Juicy and sweet but pretty drying. High ABV is very well hidden and smooth.

Overall: A very good take on a Quadrupel that stands among the best. Great mix of fruity sweetness and spices.

750ml corked and caged bottle served in trappistes rochefort glass.

pours a deep reddish amber with a finger of creamy, off-white head... light lacing left behind.

nose is fruity, with bananas leading the way; yeast, spices, and booze are all evident. taste mostly follows the nose, deliciously complex - noticeably lighter and sweeter than some of the other noteworthy quads (i.e. rochefort 10, StB abt 12, westy 12) and while not quite in that upper eschelon, still a tasty offering from the monks. medium-bodied, style-appropriate carbonation. it's a quad, so for me drinkability is capped at a bottle per sitting.

750mL (K02B10 12:09) into a chalice. Pours a clear amber w/ a 1-finger off-white head, ample carb.

Aroma is dried fruits, spices. Raisins, dates, plums, candi sugar, bready Belgian yeast.

Taste follows nose. Dark fruit, sweet malt, candi sugar, bready yeast. Alcohol well hidden.

Mouthfeel is dry and light, a great counterpoint to the dark fruity taste.

Overall a solid quad in the same league w/ Rochefort 10, St. Bernardus 12.

Holy shit. This mother is on-tap.

Translucent red-brown with pink and orange highlights. Full pour cancelled out the big head, but the beige layer that's there is holding out with stillness and glossy film. One of the best colored beers I've seen.

Rum candy, raisin, candi sugar, cinnamon, dried apricot and prune, nutty yeast, and a whiff of sweet alcohol. Top o'the line quad aroma.

Sweet and boozy with plump dark fruits, confectionary spices, herbal hop, and liquory strength. Heavy on raisiny malts, soft chocolate, caramelized sugars, and spicy yeast phenolics. Whiff of smokiness and notes of anise and allspice. Incredibly complex and supple and warm. A bit on the sweet side, which falters the score away from perfection.

Big ol' body with great feel. Smooth and elegant. More syrupy than creamy. The carbonation is in there too, subdued but thriving. A happy sipper.

An old favorite. A contender for favorite trappist. Highly recommended.

Bottle poured into a chalice...

A - Pours a standard quad color of a murky, dark amber, chestnut color with a fluffy, khaki colored head that forms about 2 fingers thick. The head retains nicely and leaves some sticky lacing along the glass.

S - Dark fruits jump out first. Aromas of dates, figs, raisins, and plums are the most prominent. There are some cherry notes coming forward as well. Candy sugar is strong as well along with some malty, caramel, toffee aromas.

T - The taste follows the nose very closely. The dark fruits are present with raisins, plums and figs being the highlighted flavors. Normal Belgian yeast flavors come through too along with some light spices. Candy sugar and some sweet malt flavors round things out.

M - Medium bodied beer with some ample carbonation. A little thin here and there.

O - Nice quad, but not one that I would put up there with the likes of Rochefort 10 or Westy 12. Still, a nice offering that is relatively easy to find.

A- Rich amber color with a giant fluffy white head with amazing clingy lacing and pretty strong head retention.

S- Spice and cloves.

T- Cloves and spicy belgian yeast. A little chocolate. Maybe a hint of fig. A moderate amount of alcohol. Not bad, but not as complex as most other Quads I have had.

M- Carbonated and bubbly just like you would expect from a Belgian, but there is also another weird quality to this. It has an almost "powdery" mouthfeel. This is almost like the feeling of drinking a shake that hasn't been mixed up properly. A little weird.

O- Not a bad Quad, but not the best in the world. Worth a shot (especially since it is a Trappist), but not a true jaw-dropper.

11.2oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

(A)- Pours a deep brown chestnut hue with just the slightest hint of reddish highlights. Produced a nice cap of tan froth and lacing.

(S)- A nice combo of clay yeast and dark fruits with bits of biscuit and banana at the end.

(T)- Similar to the smell. A nice combo of subtle clay-like yeast that flows into some nice dark fruits of cassis, plum, grape, and banana. Finishes just slightly dry with hints at biscuits.

(M)- A nice carbonation level and a really nice balance to it. Fruity, but nicely earthy and a smooth; not harsh yeast aspect. The 10% ABV is very well hidden.

(D)- A classic quad that fits the bill quite well. Fitting of the trappist name and reputation.

Had at the Parrothead. From notes.

Appearance - deep brown and purple body light head.

Smell - more yeast than the average quad. hints of dark fruits--prunes mostly. Smells balanced.
`
Taste - um not exactly what I was expecting. There is a ton of yeast, and it dominates. Its such a yeast forward quad, that I had trouble getting past it. Definitely a spicy yeast that takes over the hints of dark fruits.
