This unique seasonal product is the world’s only Trappist bock ale. Brewed exclusively with natural ingredients, this ale post-ferments slightly in its bottle. It has a deep red colour, an intensely rich taste, and a malty aroma. Aromatic hop varieties and types of burnt malt render this ale its delicate bitterness that blends surprisingly well with its slightly sweet undertone.

Bock – from Koningshoeven. 25.4 mL cork and cage bottle picked up at Shangy’s in Emmaus, PA, sometime in the distant past. Reviewed 16/02/24 (Review 3244). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on rear label “12:51K0617”. Cork is stamped “26/07”. Stored on room temperature shelf at dealer, 39 degrees at home for the last few years. Served at 53.4 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 58.4 degrees F.
Appearance – 3.5 There is a slight oxidation ring around the neck of the bottle.
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), clear.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same. Rear-lite, the entire snifter glows a ravishing ruby.
Head – While pouring, a fizzy two mm almond head occurs, but barely outlasts the pour. Neither crown nor cap remain.
Lacing – None
Aroma –3.5 – Weak chocolate. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (7 % ABV, as stamped on the label). As it warms, char notes appear.
Flavor – 3 – Begins slightly sweet with light chocolate/caramel flavor and a bit of char. No yeast, no hops, no roasted malt. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No ethanol. Mild gastric warming eventually occurs.
Palate – 4 – Medium; slightly creamy with a touch of oiliness; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 A surprisingly good bock, considering how long this lager has been sitting in beer reefer #1.

dark brown with some red. large head.
smells of toasted malt, nuts, peanut-butter and some odd cheese-like flavor which is throwing me off.
Caramel, dark fruits, nuts.
Creamy, though bitter.
Maybe my bottle was a dud, but it's not doing anything for me.

Bottle. Deep chestnut colour. Dense creamy head with lacing.
Sweet aroma of spice and malt. Dark brown sugar noted.
Taste is similar to the smell. There are hints of dried dark fruits and treacle. Bitter finish.
Well carbonated. Medium body.
A Bock that reflects the Trappist brewing tradition.

Bottle, kindly shared by my beerpal Ivar. ABV is 7%. Cloudy brown colour, big beige head with an orangey hue. Malty and slightly stale aroma (stale dark fruits). Malty rich flavour, spicy and oaky notes, moderate hops in the finish.

Pours a dark chocolatey brown color with just under a finger of head. The nose is malt heavy with a hint of prunes and Belgian yeast. The flavor is akin to a dubbel but with somewhat less residual sweetness. The body is hefty for sure.

Colour is a rich brown with a marvellous fluffy beige head that stays with you. Aroma of dried figs, toasted malts and brown sugar. Taste is surprisingly a little dull, the sweet caramelised maltiness of a lager bock struggles to get through the thick yeastiness of this beer and it becomes a little too complex for my tastes. Creamy and subtle mouthfeel. A nice beer no doubt but I prefer German bocks to this.

Fine and compact yellowish foam, brown body with splendid ruby reflections. On the nose, toasted barley, caramel, hazelnut, sugar, bread, a touch of banana, spicy and light root. On the palate there is an excellent sweet base of malt that embraces the bitter, herbaceous and roasting component. Dry, bitter and root finish. Licorice and coffee aftertaste.
