A - Dark copper, slightly hazy. Thick foam.

S - Raisins and chocolate! Other nice aromas of dark fruits as well - figs, plums, dates. Spice notes are there, but restrained and nicely intertwined. Also get some dark bread crust. Alcohol aroma is sweet, warming and integrates beautifully.

T + M - Wonderfully sweet and silky smooth as I sip it. High carbonation balances the sweetness of the beer. Wonderful dry finish ensures that you can drink this for days.

O - An excellently balanced dubbel, which focuses on the malt side of things.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18B). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 20:05 K27B14. AROMA: sweet caramel base aroma with alcohol spicy notes. APPEARANCE: dark amber color and a bit hazy. average and moussy tanned head with average retention. TASTE: sweet and caramely flavour profile. some spicy notes. medium-low bitterness that lingers into a medium-dry finish. PALATE: medium body with medium-high carbonation. OVERALL: an average trapist dubbel that would benefit from more malt complexity.

Poured into a chalice in Leeuwarden (Netherlands)
A – A deep reddish brown in colour this beer immediately raised a fizzy head like a cola would do and like a cola it died instantly leaving zero cover in the glass and as a result no lace what so ever. There was plenty of busy carbon activity in the glass.

S –A reasonable smell of caramel and burnt toffee from this on with no hop notes at all. Some notes of plum and raisins with light stewed apricot notes and no alcohol aroma at all.

T – Sweet but mild with maybe a slight hint of liquorice up front but this is blown out of the way by plenty of plum and raisin flavour a lot of caramel and the tiniest pinch of bitter hops and a mild note of clove. This beer is reasonably complex but it is quite understated in all areas the only major drawback is the slight medicinal taste of Band-Aids but his is quite pronounced on the back end of the pallet and so the beer has to lose marks for that.

MF – Pretty smooth with a medium body feel to it. I feel it is a little oily with a slight boozy tingle.

O –A pretty mild Dubbel which is not too pronounced in its flavours this beer is still very drinkable but does loose some marks for the Band-Aid pinch in the back.
