Great food, amazing location and atmosphere. Weak beer selection. They had boneyard on tap for a short time...

After striking out at the new 7 Seas taproom (they were out of Rude Parrot!), the GF and I decided to head over to the Tides Tavern, to see what was on offer there. The GF mentioned that at one time she and friends from work used to stop by for lunch on a fairly frequent basis, and she had good memories of those days. After our lunch visit the other day, I can see why.
From the outside, the Tides looks like it will be just another diner, so I was surprised by how nice it was inside, and how sizeable the dining area was (nice high ceilings as well). It also doesn't hurt that the restaurant is right on the water, with a good view of the harbor. We wound our way to the back area on the right, where a moderately sized bar was located. Even though we were here on a weekday (albeit around the holidays), the place was doing a pretty good business, and we got the last two seats available at the bar.
I really didn't know what to expect beerwise, and actually figured I'd probably just go with a glass of wine with lunch (they have a pretty nice wine by the glass selection, as it turns out) . However, I took a look at the draft list, and had an immediate WTF moment. Seems to me there was something like 22 beers on tap here, and the selection was pretty impressive. They have 3 beers contract brewed for them by Harmon brewing I believe, but then there was also an IPA from Silver City and HUB, the winter bock from Silver City, and (the reason for my WTF moment) the 2012 Abyss. All thoughts of the Rude Parrot behind me, I quickly ordered a glass of HUB IPA, followed by a glass of Abyss. I'm not sure what sort of bottle selection they have here, as I was more than satisfied with the draft selection.
As for the food, we got a couple of different appetizers, all of which pretty pretty decent (good calamari and quesadilla stuff). Service was also pretty decent. The bartender was well aware that they were pretty lucky to have the Abyss on tap, and he was happy to boast about it (and I was happy to listen to him boast about it). Service was a bit slow for our food orders, but then again, we were there just before 1:00, and they had a pretty full lunch crowd.
Prices seemed to be fairly reasonable. Nothing stood out as particularly expensive or particularly cheap.
My impression is that the Tides has upped their game a bit since Josh (barleywinefiend) reviewed this place a few years back. That's always a nice thing to see.

A: Not a beer bar but a restaraunt feel of course. Lots of people enjoying the food and water views
Q: Quality of food and beer is good. Nothing bad, old or spoiled and tasty
S: Our server was cool, nice and prompt. Not a beer guru but did a good job
S: 16 beers to choose from on this day. About 4 macro handles, 3 contract brews from Harmon, 2 Mac N Jacks, Iron Horse Loco Red, Arrogant B, 7 Seas selection, Pike and other local selections.
F: All of our food was good, no complaints from me on the food.
