I was staying in nearby Santa Clarita, so when I saw this place was rated so highly, I made it a must-stop. Stopped in to see if there was any Pliny available (there wasn't as they were between batches). There was a guy there stocking the beer shelf, and saw that he was the "Beer Expert" pictured on a nearby wall. We chatted a bit, and he looked up on his phone where I could find Pliny on-tap if at all. Really nice guy. I can't remember his name, so I won't guess. On to the beer...they carried a really good selection from what I have experienced with this store. Maybe it's because CA just has so much good beer. Lots of my faves that I can't get back home available: Deschutes, Goose Island, Firestone Walker, Port, Lost Abbey, etc. Really great store with competitive prices. If ever in the area again, this will be where I "fill up" for the week.

I stopped into this Whole Foods while in Valencia, and was pretty pleased with what I found there. The beer aisle is right near the meat counter, and there's definitely some odor, but whatever, it's a grocery store. Their selection is nice, a rack sits near the cooler with some rare-er options (Mikkeller '10 - Beer Geek Rauch, etc.) The cooler is full with mostly CA breweries, other west coast breweries and some european options.
They also were selling the Brooklyn Brewshop Home Brew kit for $41, which seemed like a good enough deal that I bought one.

This is a great place in the Santa Clarita Valley to pick up those special bottles you have been looking for. I have picked up quite a few gems in this Whole Foods, which is only a few miles from my apartment. They have a decent selection of some of the harder to find stuff, both foreign and American, as well as the find-it-everywhere beers for everyday sipping. The beer guy, Casey, is a great easy going guy, and is very helpful, and very knowledgeable about their stock or whats coming in/available. The other staff members are always very attentive and ready to help if need be as well. Overall, I always enjoy browsing their selections on a weekly basis, or picking up the occasional bottle of PtE.

My local Whole foods is probably the best place in my city to buy beer. The beer section is located near the cheese/meat counter so sometimes you get a funky cheese odor when you're looking at the brews. Quality of their brews are good. Everything is always fresh and they get most big releases in a timely manner. Service is good as every time I go in I always get asked if I need help, but the workers aren't pushy. Selection is pretty great for the area. I have found some rare gems here (2008 Anchor Our Special Ale and 2008 North Coast Old Stock Ale, both this year). They have a great selection of local CA breweries (Stone, Coronado, Bootlegger's) and a good selection of European beers. They offer single bottles, bombers, and 6 packs. Overall, this is a great place in the SCV.

TWO WORDS. Matt and Kevin, the beer guys there are top notch. They always stock the great beer and are happy to help you with selections. They have turned me onto many great Belgiums that I never would have tried. I have another problem now as well though. They turned me onto RR Consecration, and I can't get enough of those $20 bottles of sweet liquid love. Get on their good side and they may even hold a Pliny or two for you in the back.
Thanks for all the great advice and beer geek conversation. Only one bad choice that they recommended. I believe it was called Sleighor Double IPA by some brewery in El Monte. Tasted like it was brewed in a dirty, wet ash tray. See you soon guys.

Wow. I had given up looking for Pliny and Blind Pig. The SCV BevMo has never had it. Made a random stop here and dropped $100 and it was the best $100 I've ever parted with.
The selection and price is much better than the local BevMo. The Hopsickle bomber was $3 bucks less.
I will go into more detail later - but rest assured - if you are looking Dogfish/The Bruery/Port/Russian River/Avery/Stone/Lagunitas/Hair of the Dog/Goose Island/Bear Republic/Ale Smith/Coronado- at a good price and all in a cooler - not sitting i some hot-ass stock room - this is the place to go.

Nice guy was restocking the cooler when I was in there, and he was certainly "one of us." Gotta give him props for getting me more Alesmith IPAs when he noticed that I had taken the last on the shelf, and was happy to recommend some others. Selection is pretty good, although if you're more into Belgians than I am, you might think it's much better, as there was a wide selection of east and west coast belgians. Also a good selection of ales from britain. If I lived here, I'd certainly make routine visits.
