Presentation: 330ml custom green bottle. Excellent bottle presentation. Has a great classic feel to it. (no freshess date)

Appearance: Clear amber with an active level of carbonation that produces a fine, whispy, semi-sticky white lace.

Smell: Lovely cloying aroma of sweet malts, caramel, a faint floral bouquet and grain.

Taste: Full bodied, rich malt profile. Malt sweetness is even with some caramel, biscuit flavours and slick mouthfeel. It's quickly balanced by a freshly milled grain dryness and flavours. Hops are delicate, floral and very pleasing on the palate. There's also some lemony bitterness pulls through and adds to the overall dryness.

Notes: This is an absolutely lovely lager. All the characteristcs one would expect, but with a unique colour and fuller dosage of malt.

Poured into oversized, slightly narrow red wine glass at 8.5 degrees Celsius.

Lovely golden-amber colour, perfect head for a lager, leaving just the right amount of lacing.

Smells fresh, cool and clean, some honey, some herbal notes, maybe some raisin. This much too good to be brewed by a macro brewery. Aass is one of the most beautiful of the many beautiful anachronisms of Norway; a family-owned (for almost two centuries) macro-brewery that is hugely popular, while maintaining old-world quality on all their products.

Ah! This is good beer! Tastes like it smells, beautiful, complex sweetness, the hops and some subdued fruitiness makes it almost ale-like in character, but still very much a (very flavourful) lager. Yummy!

This beer is exactly in-between Aass Pilsner and Aass Bayer (Vienna lager), and combines the best of both worlds. Probably the best beer you can buy in a Norwegian supermarket.

Murky amber and brown pour, not much head to it. Aroma was bockish, (aass bock), malty.

Taste, thin body, caramel, nutty, toffee, almost nothing to speak of in the hopping department. Some bitterness, keep getting that toffee biscuit thing going on.

Pretty gentle, but can't see paying more than the asking price on these, which is over 10$ a 6 pack. No thanks.

Tasted a can of this Norwegian beer on 4th Nov 05, BB 26.05.06, 500ml 4.5% ABV.

Poured an amber bodied beer with an off-white head. Maybe a touch of haze to it.

Smell was nothing much though a nice freshness to it.
Taste was spoiled a little by a metallic tang to the finish. Maybe this is a result of being a canned beer (I would usually stay away from cans).
Mouthfeel was smooth enough, quite pleasent.

Drinkability; you would have to twist my arm really to go a second one, but not bad.

Would like to try the bottled version.
NOTE: definitely says 4.5% on the can.

After the Aass Bock Beer, that quite impressed me, I spied this other special brew called Aass Classic, and decided to give it a whirl.

This is my second beer, and it comes in a very distinctive looking green glass 11.2 fl.oz bottle embossed with the Brewery name. The main label is a black and gold oval affair, also has a lovely Victorian style neck label that has a picture of what looks like an old port town, and the words ‘Product of Norway’ above it.

The 11.2 fl.oz pours perfectly into my Pint Mug. Too perfect, although a lovely chestnut brown, with a light orange hue, there is no head whatsoever here. It kind of resembles a flat lambic in appearance. No lace whatsoever.

Aromas are of sweet malt with feint hints of molasses and burnt brown sugars. I am not a sweet-toothed person yet this is still appealing to me.

Tastes are quite sweet also, but not sickly. Reminded me of a milk chocolate and toffee covered malt biscuit. Nice. The finish has a fruity dimension with a slightly bitter-citric aspect. Very clean drinking. The finish has a mild bite to it which is appealing.

Overall I found this to be quite drinkable, and another respectable beer that gains my seal of approval again. I really liked it. Slightly chilled, it has a very refreshing quality to it.

Another different offering which I enjoyed, and two out of two for Norway so far.

Lt Brown color, medium head. A malty lager, slightly hopped. Clean light taste, light flavor. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty, no bitterness. Not bad, but nothing special. More of a lager than a vienna. Not very malty for a vienna.

This golden beer really is something in-between Vienna style and a pilsener. In Norway ABV is 4,7%, still it's an excellent beer. Saaz hops and some münchener malts are used, giving the beer a lovely aroma and a flavour that combines malty richness and crisp freshness. Well done, Aass! (For our American friends: The brewery's name is pronounced like "boss" without the b.)
