Appearance: Pours a crystal-clear garnet color with a healthy-sized, tan head.

Smell: Aroma of toasted malt, a touch of sweet fruit, a bit of skunkiness (green bottles suck!), and a faint hop aroma.

Taste: Combines a sweet fruit flavor with strong toasted malt. There's a bit of skunkiness in this bottle, but not enough to throw off the flavor beyond recognition. Ends with a slight bitter hop note, as well as a burnt sensation. Not very complex or warming for a winter warmer.

Mouthfeel: Too thin for the style. Pretty thin mouthfeel along with a crisp dryness. This beer needs more 'ass!'

Drinkability: Pretty limp... This brew's complexity of flavor and mouthfeel are nothing compared to the many others out there. Average...

Dark nutmeg brown, clear...1/4 inch head that calms to "clouds" in 40 seconds. Caramely aroma, some sense of allspice. Light and spicy sense, some tea-like flavors, a little orange, and a musty impression of nutmeg. Hops balance with an organic quality. Suggestions that this beer is a little "off" in the flavors. Aroma works well with the impression though. A "session" holiday brew. I'm not sure this brew is a Strong Ale at all, it is much more reminiscent of, maybe a Dark Lager?

Even though this is a Christmas seasonal, it is strong enough to sit on a shelf pretty much the year. Pretty boisterous character with plenty of alcohol punch, similar to a Scotch ale. Still, not too bitter or strong. An 11.5 oz bottle was plenty to warm me up.

The beer pours a limpid deep garnet color, the head permissive and the left over lace a nice covering sheet. Light toasted grain aroma, sweet and caramel like, pleasant. Sweet at the start with lots of malt, the top a bit on the skinny side and the finish sparsely acidic, the hops scarce and mores the pity, the aftertaste dry and a drinkable beer, but nothing that excites me.

Pours a clear red brown beer.

Smell is lots of big grain smell and grain husk. Fairly strong dark malt smell and mildly perfume in scent.

Taste is mildly sweet with a mild chocolate malt flavor. Mild bitter aftertaste complements the main flavor of grain.

Mouthfeel is just average.

A drinkable brew just not spectacular, better than a Heineken.

Thick and malty with a smooth, rich flavor. A friend in Norway was very kind with his share of this with me. This is a very sought after Scandinavian beer, especially around the winter holidays. Very similar to Aass Bock, with the obvious holiday reminder in the scent. Try it if you come by it!

Aass' Juleøl, like all Norwegian Yule/Christmas beers, is NOT an ale - it's a Vienna style lager. These beers are brewed in the original strong (appr. 6,2% ABV) and a watered down (appr. 4,5%) version. Make sure you get the strong versions (applies to all breweries) - they are just so much better! Aass is the best of them all. Spicy, caramelly, rich and rounded flavour that goes well with traditional Scandinavian Christmas fare.

Pours a two finger light tan head that fades slowly to a ring leaving some lace. Mahogany/amber color. Good carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Molasses nose. Starts sweet molasses flavor, finish is malty with hints of bitterness in aftertaste. $1.79 for a 330ml bottle from Lina's Beverages Painesville, OH.

Malt aroma with some fruity undertones. Deep red to brownish color with good clarity. Full and firm head, that leaves a telltale ring after each drink. Malt qualities in taste that is similar to aroma noted with some nuttiness, and more of the sweetness. Also a metalic quality, that could be from hard water. Finish is sweet with very little dryness. Medium mouthfeel with proper carbonation. This bottle wasn't as good as ones I have had previously.

I am assuming this is Juleøl (klasse D). Dark brown color, large head. Dark malts. Light tasting, light bodied. Light malt and hops. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty and slightly bitter.

Intersting little number from Aass. I bought it because it appeared to be one of those beers that you may never find again. Well, the appearance is pretty murky. The muddy brown body appears to be somewhat thick, like a dark belgian. The aroma is filled with a molassases and malt. This is supposed to be a Christmas Ale, but there is not much spice going on. A musky, bark hint makes an odd presence. The taste is actually a little surprising. A nice raisin and dark fruit backbone makes the malty sweetness seem nicely balanced. The mouthfeel is average, but on the verge of being worse. The thin, inconsistent body leaves a film over your entire mouth. This kind of a strange beer. It has a big-bodied winter brew mentality, with a thinned out, weak feel.

Green bottles suck!

I think this may have been a good beer once, but, alas, the green kills all over time. Speaking of good beers in bad bottles, this guy is a dead ringer for Dinkel Acker Dark--same water twang, same color, same tastes-like-it-was-the-second-runnings-off-a-double-bock-sparge.

Perhaps, one day, it will come in a brown bottle.

One day.

This beer poured into the glass a caramel color. The head was beige in color some lasting but small in size. There was no lace present. Some carbonation was present but not overly present. The aroma was of fruit, hops and some malt, not very complex. The taste was also not overly complex. It was of malt, fruit, and hops. The hops were not overbaring but were present. Some what dry at the end as the malt took the last flavor.

(Another review from months ago lacking depth.)

There is skunk on the nose and palate. This is a sub par offering in my opinion.

Color: Copper

Nose: Chocolate, Caramel, etc -- Basic dark lager malty notes.

Taste: Blanket of caramel, light smoke, hazelnut and orange -- opening up to cinnamon, nutmeg and peppermint flavors. Quite unexpected.

Body: Medium, soft and silky.

Note: Subtle and thirst quenching. Very nice indeed.
