Coals is a cool place to grab a bite to eat and have a beer or two.

They usually have at least one true craft option on draft and Im excluding the always present Allagash White as craft option. If you're really into beer you'll probably feel like the selection is less than stellar, which it is, but its the best you'll find in the area. This place has all the Sixpoint Beers in cans , which is probably the best buy in the place because they're 16oz'ers.

I recently had Greeport Summer there on tap which was delicious so they definitely know their beer, but they only have 6 taps and I think their clientele for the college crowd is less "sohpisticated" than the probably older crowd that goes to the Port Chester location, hence the more taps and variety at that location.

The food is great so I can't knock this place, but dont go there expecting any rare finds. Again, you'll probably see at least on tap that you''ll dig so stop in for a brew for sure.

Great Food. Decent Beer. B-

If you're ever in the northeast Bronx, Coals is a great place to chill, have a few tastey brews and talk science or medicine with the local crowd. Us "locals" are generally biomedical researchers that work across the street at Einstein, and if you learn anything about scientists know we care and appreciate our beer. Almost as much as our work. Sometimes more. Usually a variety of regular go to beers on tap (brooklyn lager, allagash, yuengling) with a rotating stock of delicious specials. The can revolution has allowed Billy to keep a stock of delicious six point varieties around along with various other delights in the side fridge. Daily food specials, gourmet pizzas, paninis and burgers are also planned with care by Billy (the owner), who is usually around to hang out, which makes this place feel like home.

Their are just not that many Beer places in the Bronx, and since I work in the Bronx and spend a fair amount of time in the Bronx, I try to get out to and at least check out and support the few options that exist. This is a smaller place that seems to be a hot spot for lunch for the employees of the 3 hospitals that are directly cross the road. They serve a nice selection of Italian hip and upscale apps, panini and feature grilled pizza. I tried a small pizza and found it thin crusted, hot and tasty...more high quality NY pizza. Beer wise they had 6 on tap, 2 from Blue Point, Brooklyn , Allagash white, a few space wasters and most impressively Captain Larry DIPA, nice. Bottles much less impressive. Bud/Coors/Amstel/Heiny. Comfortable to get a lunch time bite, 8 tables, a few couches to chill in and a friendly and eager to please staff. Worth a visit for the pizza if you are local. Some decent beer in an area where its a 45 minute ride to Manhattan/Brooklyn and their beer cornucopias.
