This is a crisp lager. It doesnt try to be more than it should, its exactly what a lager should taste like. Pours golden with a light head which quickly disperses. Smells of a nice mix of malts and hops. Very smooth drinker and easily could be described as a session beer.

This is formerly the French Creek Helles.
Appears a light golden yellow with a small white head that quickly dissapears. Some spotty lacing can be seen on the glass.
Smell is of heavy caramel, malt, and refreshing hops.
Taste is of caramel & malt with a nice, zippy hop that is superbly balanced. Nice, light bready and fruity beverage that is a true winner.
Mouthfeel is balanced sweetness that slowly lingers towards the back of the mouth.
Drinkability is great. Everything is in place with this beer to be an outstanding beer with the exception of the somewhat lackluster head retention.

Finger licking good.

Served in the soup top can. A delightful fruty and grassy aroma greets the nose as you open this beer its a delightful golden hue with a hint of amber. Taste is grass fruity hops and a hint of doughy malt on the back a little thin on mouthfeel but very refreshing. All in all my favorite session lager.

On tap during the 2009 Sly Fox Goat Races & Bock Fest on 5/3/09.

A - Clear, transparent golden body with sparse carbonation and one-finger frothy white head that settled to a quarter inch of retention and left a nice amount of sticky lace.

S - Clean lager aroma with light grassy and citrus hops paired with a bready, biscuity malt character and a touch of fresh grains.

T - Like the aroma, this Helles features a nicely balanced hop profile including light grassy and herbal hops as well as some citrus notes. Malt is sweet with a bready, almost biscuity crispness. Finishes clean with a subtle hop bite.

M - Light bodied with a soft yet syrupy texture and crisp mouthfeel.

D - Very crisp, clean and easy to drink. True to style Helles Lager. One of my favorites from Sly Fox and the true definition of a session beer. I could drink this all afternoon.

Pours the color of light straw with just a tint of amber. Has a finger of creamy white foam that fell as I drank to a thin ring.Nose is malt sweetness and leafy herbal. Cheerful golden scent of grass and a bit of spice. Moderate malts on the nose. The taste is perfection. A citric crispness takes the palate to a smooth and apporachable malt sweetness. Leafy flavors with plenty of earth and a a spicy bitter. The mouthfeel is exemplary. Lively and crisp like a brisk wind. It's sweetly breaddy and fills up your mouth to finish dry and with a touch of spice and faint bitter to linger in the aftertaste.

Friendly. A lively tonic with bright and favorable aspects. Just what the doctor ordered.

Poured into pint glass

A: Quickly dissipating head, almost transparent light gold.

S: Sharp, grainy, sweet

T: Sweet, slight bitterness, grain, little hop flower presence, slight metallic presence, sweet midrange, slight bitter aftertaste

M: Smooth with some solidness, not runny, not oily. Slight excessive carbonation

Great beer. Not sure if I like the price ($36). It's not that memorable of a beer and doesn't have a real signature taste. It's not a bad beer. It's just a good light German ale. It's a solid choice if you're a fan of Pilsners.

Poured from 12 oz can into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. Best by 04/22/14 on bottom of can. Purchased at Kroger (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Beautiful clear straw-gold with ample 1-finger white big-bubbled head with decente retention and a nice cap of lacing.

S: Plenty of Munich and pilsner malt graininess with a good balance of grassy, noble hoppiness.

T: Clean with only a slight minerally bit in the aftertaste. Otherwise is straight grainy maltiness with a light hand of noble hopping. Really a fine tasting helles lager for sure. If they could punch out the light sulfur-aspirin-mineral character in the finish, this would be a definite summer go to brew. Still, this is an excellent, clean lager with no other faults.

M: Very crisp and easy to drink with a fairly light-handed carbonation to enhance the light-medium body and mouthfeel.

O: Sly Fox Golden Lager is a stellar lager with just the right mix of pilsner and Munich graininess with noble hopping -- they have made an outstanding brew here.

Poured into a sampler cup as part of a Sly Fox tasting at Bierkraft in Brooklyn. This was the first beer I tasted.

A--True to its name, this is was golden, almost like freshly pressed and filtered apple juice. Nearly yellow. White fizzy head left a little rim in the tiny cup.

S--This probably was due in part to the receptacle, but still, not much there in the way of either malt or noble hops. Maybe some faint grassiness.

T--Very clean, with bright notes of crystal malt with a spicy (Saaz?) bitterness behind it. A clarified, well lagered beer. Absolutely no detectable off-notes just pure fresh goodness. This one was first off the gun in terms of tasting, which is a tough spot to occupy, and shined.

M&D--Both are quite good. Mouthfeel is spritzy and crisp, very scrubbing and refreshing. Drinkability is perfect for a warm day or a day when you just want to kick back.

Perfect session beer if you're in the mood for a fresh German style lager.

A: Clear straw color with a three finger head poured in my .41 liter Warsteiner pilsner glass. Good head retension and lacing.

S: Malty aroma dominates. Hints of metal, straw, and bread.

T: Big malty backbone of bread and yeast with earthy hop notes.

M: Gentle bubbles on the tongue with a crisp, clean, slightly bitter finish.

D: This is how a Helles should be crisp and easy to drink summer or winter. Great session.

A: Straw golden with a fluffy white head. Attractive I declare.

S: Floral, and biscuity.

T: Earthy, floral, grassy hops with a light bready/biscuity flavor to it. Gentle and refreshing a great showcase of the noble hops.

M: light bodied crisp dry and refreshing.

O: For an American brewery, it's hard to do a better helles lager. Very sessionable great drinkability.

Pours a transparent golden body with a pure white head quickly dissolving to leave almost no trace of lacing as the lively carbonation dances to the top of the glass.

The aroma offers plenty of German Pils, a touch of herbal hops and just plain freshness.

That German Pils strikes the palate immediately with subdued herbal hops and perhaps just a touch of spiced malt.

A clean, crisp, fresh body with generous carbonation and a drying finish.

A plain good beer, pretty traditional German Helles - perfectly clean.

Brand new wide mouth 365 degree opening can!

No pour, gave the can a gentle swirl prior to opening in order to build a head. Bubbly white foam dissipates quickly to a golden clear liquid. Can looks and feels great! Aroma of bready malts perfectly rounded by crisp noble hops. Smells a bit hoppy for the style, which is to my liking. Most likely aided by the fact this was canned 4 days prior to opening.

Taste is not as hoppy as the aroma, but so well balanced between the sweet bready malts and hops. Hops give hints of lemon zest and orange peel. Malts round it out and the classic biscuit flavors remind me of many of the Czech pilsners on tap in Prague. Subtle yet powerful and clean flavors stick with you and leave a prickly finish.

I will be drinking a LOT of this. A great beer for those who are BMC drinkers trying to venture out, beginning craft drinkers, and those who have come full circle. Enormously impressed and well surpassed my expectations.

Sly Fox does lagers as well as anyone. The can design puts it over the top. This will be a staple in my fridge.

Poured from a 12 oz can. Best by date Jan 25, 2015.

Yellow in color with outstanding clarity. Medium fluffy white head. Sweet malty aroma that reminds me of a German pilsner with less hop presence. The sweetness continues in the flavor, which brings out a slight spice from the noble hops. Perfectly carbonated, medium bodied, clean and smooth. Everything a Helles lager should be.

In lieu of putting their own spin on this beer, it's clear the brewer wanted to stay true to the style and they absolutely nailed it. Why there aren't more American versions of Helles is beyond me. This is not only an outstanding version of the style, but for $7.89 / six-pack it is also a great value. Recommended to anyone looking for a clean lager with some character.

Crystal clear gold with a fine, white head. Great retention and lacing. Clean malt aroma with plenty of floral hops - maybe just a bit of citrus as well. Light to moderate bitterness with a bit of malt. Slightly grainy character, almost like barley straight from the bag on brewing day. Sweet finish. Light body with crisp carbonation. Off-dry. This is a highly drinkable, top notch helles, especially for a brewpub. The brewer really knows his stuff.

Light, golden yellow in color with excellent clarity. Poured with a thick white foam that reduced to a soapy and wispy cap. Generally fresh with biscuity german malt aromas and a touch of citrus lemon hop at the back end. Biscuity, malty flavors up front, and a spicy hop bite through the middle. Lemon hop bitterness from the middle to fhe finish. Finishes with a crisp, biscuity lemony hop bitterness.

I had this at the goat races - served chilled in a willybecker.
A - A clear golden as the name states w/ small white cap. The bead is pin sized and carbonation is visible, attractive lager to view in the Sly Fox glass.

S - Great malt nose w/ floral hops and light mineral note from subtle yeast aroma

M - Crisp light body + light herbal hop w/ nice malt smooth dry texture. A bit spicy for my taste to be honest.

T - A nice crisp flavor but hoppier than most w/ a nice clean yeast profile and mild sweetness. The hops have great flavor, but higher up in the taste than malt which is a little off the mark, but taste is a nice blend of complimentary flavors

D -= A good example of the style, a nice quaffable helles, but could use more malt in the tast IMO, like the clean drinkable aspects a lot, I could drink many of these in a session

12oz can into pint glass. Drank the rest of the six pack from the cans.

Very nice golden color. Not much of a head but left a white lacing down the glass.

Excellent, excellent clean beer smell. Malty goodness.

Not overly sweet, but good bready malts finishing with a nice hoppy bitterness.

Light but not overly carbonated. Very smooth finish.

This is an awesome, basic beer when you just want a straight up beer. Highly drinkable. Also really dug the open top cans. Good job Sly Fox.

Pours pale yellow with a fluffy head and lots of carbonation. Smell is grainy and bready with a kiss of hops. Flavor very light, grainy with a bit of noble hop. Mouthfeel is quite light. Great summer beer

i got hooked on this beer when i was working at the royal tavern in south philly and since it has become one of my favorite lagers. nice golden body, crisp taste, with very little aftertaste, which is fine by me. pretty good example of the style, except for maybe being a bit "bolder" than what you would normally find. great beer, awesome brewery.

Opened and drank directly from the 360 top can...which by the way is a terrific invention.

A: From what I can see, it is a clear straw light golden color. Can't speak of head or lacing, but carbonation looks to be nice.

S: Lots of bready malts and biscuit smells with some grassy herbal hops. I can smell the cleanliness of the beer.

T: Starts off slightly sweet with the bready and biscuit malt. That mixes with lots of grassy and straw flavors as well as some lemon and apple. The slight sweetness of the malt gets beaten down on the finish as it turns very crisp and clean with herbal notes and slight bitterness. Finish is very crisp and clean and dry. Great summer beer.

M: Perfect balance of malt and hops with terrific carbonation and a nice medium body to it. Finish is crisp and clean with no alcohol.

O: A really nice Helles Lager that ranks up there with the best. This is a terrific summer brew that I will have stocked in my fridge all summer long.

For those that get a chance, please try the new 360 top and drink it right from the can. That invention is fantastic as you really get the full effect of the nose with the entire lid off, but the convenience of a can! These are the PERFECT summer beer for whatever reason, beach, lawn, porch, whatever. Love them.

The beer comes in a very clear golden yellow with some carbonation rising up in it.

The aroma has some grassy hops, slight malt, and spice.

The flavor follows with a citrus and grassy hop bitterness. There's a good amount of sweet bready malt that balances this beer out, while still staying very crisp. There's a bit of spice int he back as well.

This is a really good beer for the style and quite enjoyable.

On-tap at the 2012 Goat Races.

A - Served with a beautiful golden yellow body that had a line of carbonation bubbles racing to the top...the fluffy head was white in color and stood two fingers tall...it fell to a full cap and left behind nice lacing

S - Grassy hops, toasted malts, some sweet caramel, slight spice...nothing too exciting, but pleasant none-the-less

T - First sip allows those grains to shine through...light toasted malt provides a little bit of body while also providing a buttery biscuit flavor...the hops come in towards the middle and stay through the finish...they provide a bit of spice in the middle and finish with a grassy flavor

M - Light bodied...crisp and refreshing...very clean with a balance of malts and hops

O - This was very easy to drink...I think I have found a German style that I like...a nice balance throughout and a nice finish
