Another IPA Project beer.

Appearance: the pint arrived clear orange in color with a short 1" head. Some spotty lacing developed through the drink. Average carbonation levels.

Smell: the aroma was a very soft on the nose, as caramel and pine were mellow.

Taste: the flavor consisted of a deep caramel malty tone nicely balanced with strong pine cone hop bitterness, and a soft whisper of orange citrus rounded it out.

Mouthfeel: lightly crisp at the start. The finish was long on the piney hop bitterness along with a bit of crispness on the tongue.

Drinkability: I found this brew to be quite drinkable and slightly unique in flavor compared to other IPAs I have sampled in the past.

Poured into a pint at the Grey Lodge Pub where there is always a fresh clean line and fresh clean beer. Santiam fills a pint with a bejeweled russet amber hue topped off with a 1/4" solid antique white head cap coating leaving some latice lace in the glass.

Light aromatic dry mild notes of wood characteristics and a creamy scent.

First swigs: Tar immediate lemon peel intantly vanishing to a lengthy vegetal and wood tone. Middle is palin tea and a mild milky sense. Lingering aftertaste of dryness.

Mouthfeel is a bright airy, medium bodied varietal followed by a superlative sandpaper dry finish.

Last swigs: Woody leafy dusty tea. Other Sly Fox vareitals have packed more zip, but this is revealing straight to the hop sense. Website says that this is a Tettnang and Hallertauer offshoot. More brewpubs should allow their main man to create such impressive IPAs as Sly Fox has for he past two years, raising the bar to hats off status. I wish that Sly Fox brewpubs were closer than 45 minutes from my door! Boo hoo! The entire Philadelphia area is lucky to have such innovation.

Beer is good. Happy respectable beering.
