A very nice start and finish to this one. I am more of a fan of imperial stuts, but the full flavor of this beer is comparable. It’s depth isn’t amazing, but it’s appreciated to get what you expect. I favor this over the Fox’s O’Reilley’s Stout any day. Good finish. Yes, thinner than one would expect, actually making this a more drinkable brew. I recommend in a fluted glass. Something different about the reveal of this vs. a pint or imperial pint.

Had this bad boy on tap at the Sly Fox brewery restaurant, good food and atmosphere.

Appearance - Beautiful solid black color that's quite opaque. Nice white head that sticks around the entire time.

Smell - Nice roasted odor with a strong coffee note.

Taste - By far the best part of the beer, the taste was extremely rich with roasted, sweet chocolate and coffee flavors abounding.

Mouthfeel - While the flavor was fantastic it got lost a bit after a few sips. This was probably due to a bit too much carbonation though the first few sips really make it all worth it.

Drinkability - This beer's flavor was fantastic and I highly reccomend it and the rest of the Sly Fox brews to all whom get a chance to partake. I only wish they bottled this sucker more widely for easier home consumption.

On cask at Pinocchio's.

A deep and very dark brown color with minimal head or lace. Appetizing aroma of chocolate and roasted grain. Sweet, creamy chocolate malt and chocolate milk, moderate roastiness, light coffee note. Hop presence is minimal. Overall, delicious.

Soft mouthfeel with low carbonation. Not entirely still, however. Medium bodied but with a light feel. Dry finish. So drinkable and smooth, this one is a real winner for me.

Did this come out of retirement? I had a glass at the Phoenixville location 11/21-09. Hand pulled 10 oz. glass with no head whatsoever. Extremely dark brown, nearly black.
Smell and taste are of mostly roasted, maybe burnt, coffee with some chocolate and malts in there. Dark strong flavor that lets you know it's stout.
A little carbonation would be good, but it fills and coats your mouth nicely. Easy drinkablility.

Served on tap at the Phoenixville brewpub. Very dark in color, dark brown but not opaque. At the bottom of the glass a tinge of red/purple can be detected. Had a finger thick head comprised of medium sized bubbles that all popped fairly quick leaving behind a thin slightly brown oil slick of a film on top. I'm OK with that.

Nose was very nice. Aromas of cocoa and chocolate milk abound, layered in is some light ale yeast esters of the fruity nature. Really pretty full nose, lots of aromas.

Taste is quite full. Very malty and rich, slightly sweet. Tons of chocolate, cocoa, a touch of roasty malt flavors as well. A clean but forceful lactose sweetness makes itself known mid pallette, very slick and malted milk ball sweet, but not cloying. Balanced out at the end very nicely. Mouthfeel is very slick and velvety, drips on the side of the class got a bit sticky. Lots of residual sugars left in this one, perfect for a sweet stout. The addition of oatmeal is unmistakably in the flavor and mouth feel as well.

Overall - Quite a yummy stout. Very poundable for sure. Nice job.

Served on cask at Iron Hill Newark's Black & Tan cask event on 11/15/08.

A - Extremely dark brown body with burgundy and ruby highlights along the bottom edges and short light tan head that receded to a patchy film and left lots of thick lacing.

S - Nice aromatic oatmeal stout with plenty of sweet cream, chocolate syrup and flaked oats, as well as hints of roasted malt and coffee.

T - Dark roasted malt complemented by a rich, bitter chocolate aspect and some sweet cream. A nutty character also emerges with a good bit of coffee coming through in the finish.

M - Medium to full body with a rich, creamy texture and mildly bitter finish.

D - Very nice oatmeal stout that full of flavor and quite smooth and creamy. This one certainly benefitted from cask conditioning. I didn't even realize that Sly Fox brewed an Oatmeal Stout.

Super dark brown beer pumped out of the cask into my pint glass was crowned with a foamy, creamy tan head. The nose offered citrus notes, singed wood, burnt coffee, and a mild chocolate aspect as well. The taste gives some soothing chocolate, cocoa powder, a mild wood-like flavor, malt, and a tiny amount of mocha. Has a grainy/creamy mouthfeel, with a long soothing finish.
