Per the Sly Fox website "Grisette is a Belgian farmhouse ale which was originally brewed in the Hainaut Province to be the beer of the miners in the area, just as Saison was the beer of the farmers. It was lighter than saison and frequently contained wheat as well as barley malt (as does the Sly Fox version). The name is derived from the French word for grey, referring to the young women (the grisettes) who doled out pints as the men exited from the mines while still dressed in their grey factory frocks. The style is nearly extinct and will be an interesting addition to the adventuresome and ever-growing Sly Fox portfolio."

I had this beer on tap at the Collin's Bar in NYC. When I returned from that trip I was glad to see that it is also no tap at the Phoenixville Sly Fox location. Definitely will get more of this. The beer poured a hazy golden color into a tulip glass. There was a slight white head that lasted for a short time and gave way to a white ring around the edge. The nose of this beer was a bit earthy and very aromatic, almost a touch of sweetness. The taste is very well balanced with a wheat character and a touch of bitterness, all making for a very drinkable beer that has a medium body and a good mouthfeel.

Hazy golden hue with BRIGHT WHITE CLINGY HEAD. Lots of funk banana and clove. Some pear and tart granny smith apples underneath it all.

Nice sweetness up front.Sweet dried fruit like apricots and pears up front. Rolls into a very spicy and herbal finish. Extremely dry as well. Fruiy and spicy, faintly medicinal, dry, medium bodied that holds up against the brisk carbonation. A really nice session belgian style in a can.

Pours a nice dark golden colour with a semi-thin, wispy head that laces nicely and leaves minimal residue on the glass.

The aroma is sweet and candy-like, a touch hoppy and a bit spicy as well. There's a nice balance amongst the three for sure.

Flavour is more of the same: there's a touch of citrus blended with a healthy dose of spice (clove?), and sugary candy toward the finish of each sip. Also at the finish is a nice yeasty bite that blends well with the spice flavours. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and has a nice bubbly, hoppy kick to it overall.

Another nice brew from Sly Fox Phoenixville. Well balanced with a good amount of flavour and well-representative of the style.

Thanks to egajdzis for filling this growler from his home kegerator...
Appears a hazy, pale gold with small amounts of CO@ bubbles slowly rising to the top. A small, foamy, bright white head fades into a mild cap and collar. Spotty lacing is left behind.
Smell is of light funk, sugary candy, fruity, malty, dusty, earthy, with cream, a "juicy fruit" gum aroma, and light aromas of water-logged lumber.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a funky, sugary, rubber like flavor that's a bit odd but seems to fit the style in the farmhouse mix.
Mouthfeel is light bodied, sweet, with a dry bitterness that makes the brew very light, short lived, and pretty easy to drink. There is a fizzy, sweetness runing along the tongue till she runs dry.

12oz can from CJ's Potsdam NY for $2

Appearance - Hazy yellow colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fantastic lacing. The head lasted for around 10 minutes.

Smell - Breads/grains, clove/coriander, citrus

Taste & Mouth - There is a high amount of carbonation and I can taste breads/grains mixed with some clove/coriander and floral notes. There is also some tart lemon. It ends with a spicy and fairly tart aftertaste.

Overall - A winner from this brewer. Nice tartness and a great summer beer. It also has a fantastic appearance in the glass. I`d buy it again.

This beer came a bright golden yellow with a persistent, irregular white head that left a little lace behind.

Smells of spicy peppery triple-like yeast with a little banana and some big juicy oranges.

Tastes of big clove based yeast with some oranges and some other ambiguous fruity sweetness. Finishes with a lot more of the pasty yeast with a touch of a grainy wheat.

The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a moderate, easy going carbonation.

I really liked the yeast used in this one. It was a lot of fun for my palate to work over.

A: Pours a yellow color with significant head. Head remains on the top through consumption.

S: Lemon, citrus, spices - easily saison detected from just the aroma.

T: Pleasant spicing. The citrus mellows out on the tongue but really good spicing and flowers.

M: Thick and creamy - nice.

O: Really nice saison especially considering the lower ABV than most saisons. Definitely sessionable.

Perhaps my favorite beer during a series of recent trips to the Phoenixville brewpub. Pours a cloudy, pale yellow, with a small white head that settles down quickly and some modest lacing. Aroma is yeasty, floral, and spicy, with a clean hit of bright lemon and grass.

The flavor follows the nose for the most part and has an exceptionally quenching and clean feel; yeasty spice and pepper combine with citrus, light lemon tartness, wheat, and grass for a mild but flavorful summer session brew. Any small amount of sweetness dries up nicely in the finish.

Medium light body and crisp, effervescent carbonation enhance the refreshing quality of the beer nicely. Well done guys, this is the kind of beer to get things started after a long and sweaty day.

After writing this review I see this beer has been listed as retired; glad to see they brought it back for the summer, where its so obviously well-suited.
