On tap @ the 9th Annual Sly Fox Bock Festival & Goat Race @ Sly Fox (Phoenixville, PA) on 5/2/10. Served in a commemorative mug.
Pours an unfiltered and hazy looking light gold, with about a finger or so of off-white foamy head. Decent retention, leaving some spotty swathes of lacing here and there on the sides of the glass. The aroma is floral, spicy, and citric, with notes of zesty lemon and grass poking through. Light graininess adds some extra malt sweetness to the edges of the nose. Pleasant for the most part.
The taste is moderately bitter with spice and some citric notes. Some softer tart fruit character adds fresh zest to the proceedings while the graininess of the Pils malts offers some sweet and bready, yet firm, support to the hops. The mouthfeel has a lighter-medium body on it, with a crisp and smooth feel that finishes fairly clean.
This was decent. I think that the unfiltered nature of this mellowed out the bite of those Saaz hops a bit but enough flavor was present and this was crisp and drinkable enough to remain an enjoyable quaff on this very warm spring day.
