11/5...brewery draft. Pours cloudy gold. hazy, ling ring of white foam. Soft fruity nose, wheats. Light wheaty taste. Smooth, clean. Fast finish. Very faint citrus. Good.

Pours a straw color with a tint of golden, hazy, little head and thin lacing that soon disappears. Aroma is citrus orange like and slightly tart. Although generally sweet in taste, there is a hoppy and spicy mouthfeel and finish. The sweet side comes out as the drink warms. There is a balance of wheat and malt flavor, also, citrus fruits like orange peel and grapefruit. Soft carbonation, light mouthfeel. A tasty and easy drinker.

12 oz can poured into a weizen glass. Deep gold, almost amber, color and hazy. Tall, fluffy white head. Citrus fruit aroma with a little clove and bubble gum mixed in. Faint banana. Big fruity flavor but again more towards the citrus side than banana. Slight spice but nothing overwhelming. Refreshing despite being medium bodied. Carbonation is spot on.

This might be the only weissbier I've had from a can but it is damn good. Really impressed by this and wish Sly Fox made it year round instead of a seasonal.

Had this on draft. Poured a lovely hazy honey color with a thick, light tan head and lacing. The smell was primarily fruit. The taste was a nice combination of malt, lemon, and a hint of another fruit I couldn't quite decide on (apple or pear). There was virtually no bitterness. This beer is strongly carbonated, tangy, and refreshing. While not nearly the best Hefeweissebier I've had, it is pleasant and enjoyable.

Taste is lemon, orange, banana, and plenty of wheat. Really nice American version of a German Hefe. Super clean. This is a beer that I could easily do a six pack of.

Can from Mr Barleywine, thanks for the opportunity!
Slightly hazy light golden color with a smallish quickly dissipating head. Earthy floral spicy with a hint of funk. Light sweet bready light sugary maltiness with light citrus and hints of earthy and funk. I could see some of these in my warm days future if they distributed here.

Pours a hazy dark straw color with a finger of head that enjoyed some healthy retention. The nose has notes of both lemon and funky yeast. The flavor is pretty standard for a hefe – basically there is nothing bad here but nothing particularly good either.

Poured from a can into a pint glass, the beer was a hazy orange color with little to no head.

Pleasant aroma. Banana and citrus. Some sweet malt, and a little wheat.

Taste a little more muted. Banana and orange. Wheat.

A sweet, malt forward beer.

Pleasant enough, not great. A session beer.

On draft at Reagan National Airport. Who doesn't want a beer while waiting for a flight?

The beer is hazy yellow, though not quite as hazy as I was expecting for a weissbier. Aromas of wheat, bread, banana, light spice. Sweet snd grainy with banana and clove. Perhaps a bit too sweet. Refreshing and easy drinking. One pint was plenty, whereas the great German hefeweizens keep you coming back for more.

Best american wiesse I've had better than most Germans to my taste. Fresh. And in cans (best by 7/20/14).

A: A cloudy dark golden yellow apricot. Sports a finger tall creamy dense white head that slowly reduces to a thin film with moderate lace.

S: Nice aromas (to style of) banana and clove, with some orange citrus.

T: Follows the smell, with estery banana and clove flavors. Plus orange citrus and wheat.

M: Tingly, medium bodied, bright. Creamy.

O: Loved it. Recommend for summer.

Poured into a large hefe style glass: color is a bit darker than some hefes, gold or maybe copper, head presented very large then dissipated to a ring.

Smell is wheat, banana, clove, bread, some citrus/lemon, drier yeast notes.

Taste follows the aroma, wheat front, then nice banana, clove, bread and citrus flavors. Bread and wheat flavors form a solid backbone and the banana and clove provide quality hefe like notes.

Mouthfeel is crisp, dry, carbonation is not overpowering but the yeast leaves a nice dry presence.

Overall, this is one of the better american hefes, quality wheat and malt flavors with nice dry yeast and banana/clove flavors.

12 oz can from my third beer-of-the-every-other-month club. Poured into an Idle Hands tulip glass.

A -- Deep golden color. White head, not as much as I would think on a weiss. poor retention and lacing.

N -- Bananas and cloves, generalized fruitiness and malts.

T -- Very good taste. Really liked this on the tongue. Sweet aftertaste.

M -- no complaints

O -- I greatly enjoyed this. Really good warm weather offering. I don't think I can buy any of Sly Fox's stuff around here though... oh well.

Pours a slightly hazy sunny orange-yellow color, with a big, rocky, foamy head. The aroma is a lovely combination of slightly-caramelized bananas, yeast, and a hint of peppery hops. The flavor similarly has more of the semi-sweet, yeasty, banana-like wheat malts, along with a little bit of earthy hops that doesn't quite meld with the fruity malt base. The very-fine, soft carbonation allows the medium body to get a little (tiny) bit syrupy, while somehow also being a bit prickly on the tongue at the same time. Overall, an above-average hefeweizen for my taste.

Definitely a sweet aroma on this. Good amount of banana found on the nose with a hint of citrus. A delicious smelling hefeweizen.

The taste doesn't let down. It's one of the more fruity, banana forward hefe's I can recall drinking. For me this is a positive. I love that. Cloves are also present in the passenger seat. Just a hint of citrus and wheat comes along for the ride, but in the end this is a fairly sweet beer. Also, carbonation seems to be pretty high in this one. Just an observation.

I did a taster at Sly Fox, and this is one of the two beers I bought to take back with me. I think it's their best I have tasted. Top notch!

A: First hefeweizen out of a can for me. Poured a bright straw yellow with about a finger coaxed out of it. Foam had big white bubbles that faded fast. Thick cloudiness and medium light carbonation.

S: Big sweet banana smells. Spice or coriander and nutmeg. Big yeastiness. White bread and crackers.

T: Starts off very bready with bread yeast. Fruity pineapple sweetness rounds out the wheat. Finishes zesty and tangy with orange, spice and saltiness. A whole lot of tang at the end with coriander and an herbal basil sort of flavor. More wild yeast funk follows up.

M: Big and viscous. Lots of mouth coating unfiltered particles. Finishes tangy which really cleanses most of the big yeast and heavy bread notes.

O: This is a great hefe. I really like the how big and bold the flavors are, yet without overpowering and leaving a heavy feeling at the end. It's all about the finish with this one.

Unfiltered, this beer pours to a cloudy golden hue with a frothy head of white- colored foam. A good whiff reveals scents of wheat, herbs, spice, cloves, and banana peel. A positive impression greets the senses long before taking the first sip.

Tasting this beer continues the positive vibes. Flavors of wheat, yeast, clove, honey, and some dough form the backbone of the flavor. Bitterness is low, at least based on IBU, and other fruit flavors like orange and lemon become more noticeable with each drink.

This is a tasty hefeweizen overall with some good complexity and interesting nose and flavor. I wasn’t so sure with my first can, if I really liked this beer as much as I should, but my second can quickly won me over. The herbs, spice, fruit, yeast, etc., make this beer an enjoyable one and keep you guessing. It’s definitely a beer worth trying of you get the chance.

Poured from can into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a super hazy orange-yellow color with a small one finger fizzy white head. The head fades rather rapidly, leaving very little lace and a somewhat persistent thin white film on the top of the brew.

Smell – The aroma is quite nice. It is rather sweet with lots of orange citrus and banana smells. Along with the citrus is a big smell of a yeasty and wheaty smells as well as some lighter aromas of a little bit of grass and herb.

Taste – The taste begins with a rather wheaty and fruity taste with lots of banana. As the flavor advances a yeast cake taste come to the tongue along with some quite light notes of clove. All the while the banana gets even stronger and is joined by flavors of an orange and lemon nature. Some very light grassy and haylike flavors come to the tongue at the end, leaving a sweet, yeasty and fruity hefe flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker side for a brew of only 5.6% abv with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. Both are quite nice for the yeasty flavors of the brew giving it a very sweet wheat bready feel.

Overall – A rather pleasant Hefeweizen. While nothing out of this world, it is easy drinking and a good blend of sweet, fruit and yeast producing a good drinker overall.

Poured from the can into a wheat ale glass.

A real nice orange pale amber, opaque with some cola sticking bubbles but a real nice mix of pinhead rising carbonation also. THe head billows large and in control at four fingers, with lots of pin head sized even dancing bubbles, with a nice creamy white appearance and huge retention. Great looking Hefe.

Nose has good citrus lemon, airy dry yeast and a good wheat malt density to it. Light it seems but with some heavy qualities, curious to see where this goes.

Palate fills with a nearly rich but clean feel. Moderately carbonated with a hint of sweet cream but a large lemon and citrus body washes over with a chewy feeling. No banana or cloying sweetness. Malt density is there but has a light feel. Sweet tangerine whaffs over on the swallow with multiple sips from fruity esters.

Overall this is a great hefe, and I like the fact it doesn't have much banana like esters to it and it's so easy drinking and refreshing. Very impressed.

Cloudy honey-amber, almost going ruby, with steady rimming off white froth that speckles and replenishes from a trail of bubble up the middle.
Ripe banana, maybe a bit of mango, some candle wax, and Wheatena on the nose.
Sweet challah dough, a sharp jab of yeast, some appley esters, a bit of woody cinnamon and buzz of noble hops.
Yeasty comeback in the form of bubblegum hit and wood pulp linger.
Lt-med, some chew, lively, crisp, creamy.

Northern Brewer on can.

Everything it should be. Bananas over cloves, and maybe a tad thin, and not very complex (citrus, vanilla, etc. missing) so perhaps not quite up to German standards. But not fair off either.
Classic Hefe, and way drinkable.

Ba Review #278
Served On: 07/17/2013
Glassware: Weizen Glass
Labeled ABV: 5.6%
Date/ Code: 7/14/13

This was a 24 pack case of 12oz cans I grabbed from Brewskee's of New Oxford.

Look: Poured a hazy yellowish color with some deeper gold tinges toward the center. Head was a 1-finger of spongy white foam, reduced to a thin film within seconds. Carbonation level was decent with a steady flow of bubbles rising upwards. Had some lacing, but not much.

Smell: Sweet banana with some tropical mango. Also some bubble gum.

Taste: First up was banana with a crisp carbonation bite up the tongue. The middle was some pineapple and more banana. Not much in the way of clove in this brew, no complaints here though. The finish was fairly clean with hints of the tropical notes returning along with a slight bitterness. The aftertaste was similar to what one would have after eating a banana.

This was a very enjoyable Hefeweizen. The lack of clove seemed to enhance the drinkability. Perfect beer for a 90 degree summer day out in the sun. I approve!

355ml Can from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£2.80):
Cloudy orange colour with a large, 2cm tall head that is creamy and foamy whilst holding well.

Yeast and wheat with banana smell and plenty of clove too. Citrus plus a hint of bubblegum but not too much really. Quite a sweet aroma with touches of spice towards the end.

Clove and banana upfront that is backed by plenty of wheat and to a lesser extent some yeast as well. There is a bit of spice and bubblegum around the middle that just about equal each other out and the finish fruity with some citrus and possibly some orange too.

Medium bodied with a light citrus tang and a creamy feel that is quite smooth and goes down easy with a soft, sweet finish.

Very good for my first hefeweizen from a can, a lot better than I was expecting to be honest and the beer is a very easy one to drink. It has a good banana and clove taste that is more German than American in style.

A hazy yellow beer which glows apricot in the light. Quite pretty.

Smell is promising. Slightly boozy, but with a prominent yeast profile. More spices than fruit in the scent.

The flavor falls short. It's rather bitter and lacks the sweet-n-creamy wheat flavor I expected. I also hoped for more fruity tones, but bitter is really the only impression I'm left with.

Mouth is OK, but a bit watery.

Slyfox, a brewery in my own state and one who I think puts out a solid lineup for the price.

A- Cloudy orangish yellow with a puffy, rocky 2 finger head.

S- Clove, light Banana, and wheaty biscuit.

T- Refreshing and clean, with the yeasty esters and wheat malts playing nicely with each other.

M- Thick for the style, but not too terrible.

Overall, worth picking up a sixer.

12 oz can poured into a Weizen glass, of course.

A- Hazy, unfiltered wheat beer look all the way. The brewer calls the beer a 'tan' color, and it fits. Looks a little bit golden-orange, too, depeding on the light. The right glassware makes for a big fluffy white head. It lasts and leaves a lot of lacing.

S- Bananas, pear, some light citrus and spice. Yeasty funkiness.

T- Just like the aroma, spot on. The citrus is light and lemony.

M- More body than I expected. A light tasting fruit and spice flavored brew could easily pass on any feel, this one does not. It even has some chewiness from those funky malts. Refreshing.

O-A good effort and version of the style.

Poured from the can into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: The beer pours a slightly cloudy golden amber color with a small layer of off white head that goes away completely.

Smell: Some banana and clove with a rather strong tart lemon presence. The yeast seems to dominate.

Taste: Light and quite yeasty. The lemon like tartness is a bit overwhelming. The banana and clove notes are there, but aren't dominant enough. The finish is slightly tart.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with very mild carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: The tart notes are too strong but it still wasn't bad. I don't think I would want any more.
