355ml Can from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£2.80):
Cloudy orange colour with a large, 2cm tall head that is creamy and foamy whilst holding well.

Yeast and wheat with banana smell and plenty of clove too. Citrus plus a hint of bubblegum but not too much really. Quite a sweet aroma with touches of spice towards the end.

Clove and banana upfront that is backed by plenty of wheat and to a lesser extent some yeast as well. There is a bit of spice and bubblegum around the middle that just about equal each other out and the finish fruity with some citrus and possibly some orange too.

Medium bodied with a light citrus tang and a creamy feel that is quite smooth and goes down easy with a soft, sweet finish.

Very good for my first hefeweizen from a can, a lot better than I was expecting to be honest and the beer is a very easy one to drink. It has a good banana and clove taste that is more German than American in style.

A hazy yellow beer which glows apricot in the light. Quite pretty.

Smell is promising. Slightly boozy, but with a prominent yeast profile. More spices than fruit in the scent.

The flavor falls short. It's rather bitter and lacks the sweet-n-creamy wheat flavor I expected. I also hoped for more fruity tones, but bitter is really the only impression I'm left with.

Mouth is OK, but a bit watery.

Slyfox, a brewery in my own state and one who I think puts out a solid lineup for the price.

A- Cloudy orangish yellow with a puffy, rocky 2 finger head.

S- Clove, light Banana, and wheaty biscuit.

T- Refreshing and clean, with the yeasty esters and wheat malts playing nicely with each other.

M- Thick for the style, but not too terrible.

Overall, worth picking up a sixer.

12 oz can poured into a Weizen glass, of course.

A- Hazy, unfiltered wheat beer look all the way. The brewer calls the beer a 'tan' color, and it fits. Looks a little bit golden-orange, too, depeding on the light. The right glassware makes for a big fluffy white head. It lasts and leaves a lot of lacing.

S- Bananas, pear, some light citrus and spice. Yeasty funkiness.

T- Just like the aroma, spot on. The citrus is light and lemony.

M- More body than I expected. A light tasting fruit and spice flavored brew could easily pass on any feel, this one does not. It even has some chewiness from those funky malts. Refreshing.

O-A good effort and version of the style.

Poured from the can into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: The beer pours a slightly cloudy golden amber color with a small layer of off white head that goes away completely.

Smell: Some banana and clove with a rather strong tart lemon presence. The yeast seems to dominate.

Taste: Light and quite yeasty. The lemon like tartness is a bit overwhelming. The banana and clove notes are there, but aren't dominant enough. The finish is slightly tart.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with very mild carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: The tart notes are too strong but it still wasn't bad. I don't think I would want any more.

A - A finger's worth of tightly packed perfectly level slgihtly off-white colored head... Minimal retention gives way to nothing mroe than a slight collar and and splotchy veil of lacing... The color is an extremely pale bronze... There is a slight haziness... A moderate bit of carbonation that starts a bit sluggish before ending briskly...

S - Slightly over ripened bananas... Light cloves... Pleasant wheat base... Orange zest... A hint of bubble gum... A hint of tobacco...

T - All the flavors from the aroma materialize on the palate, but are a bit more muddled... The clove and bubble gum take a bit more priority... The banana takes a bit of a back seat... Some candied sugars as well...

M - On the lighter side of medium bodied... Light but brisk carbonation... A bit sticky... The finish is slightly hard to place, but its a bit off putting...

D - A solid and respectable hefeweizen from the fine folks at Sly Fox... An outstanding aroma and just a slight notch above average in all other facets... Tasty enough that I'll have no trouble finishing off the six pack I invested in...

Dirty, dull orange in color and very murky. Poured with a short white foam that quickly dissipated. Sweet banana and wheat malt aromas with a hint of spice. On the thicker side of medium bodied with a chewy middle. Sweet banana and yeast flavors up front that transition to a bitter hoppiness in the middle. Hop flavorsv open the door to a pleasant spicyness that intensifies to the end. A touch of citrus hop bitterness closes out the spicyness at the end and this slowly transitions back to a ripe sweet banana flavor.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a moderate to high amount of visible carbonation. It poured from a can into a weizen glass with a finger high white head that quickly died down and left a thin layer of bubbles on the surface.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of wheat and bubble gum in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has some hints of clove towards the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a very good representation of the style, has great drinkability and is rather refreshing.

A: Pours a cloudy dark golden yellow to orange in color. The beer has a finger tall creamy dense white head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a couple of slightly thicker patches and a thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of banana and clove, exactly what I would expect from the style. There are some lighter notes of orange citrus.

T: Like the smell, the taste is also dominated by the banana and clove flavors. There is some more subtle hints of orange citrus and wheat.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Creamy.

O: This beer is enjoyable, easy to drink, and quite sessionable. This could become a regular in the summer beer rotation - especially since it comes in cans and they can go anywhere (even to the pool).

Beer served in a stein, beer is yellow and hazy with a thin white head, some lacing, moderate retention, and moderate carbnoatoin.

Nice grainy banana aroma, light on the cloves.

Beer is light and wet with a nice banana flavor and wheaty body, it finishes nicely. Wet and clean. I'd have this again.

Nonic pint. Dark orange and murky. Dimpled inch of head. Great retention. 4.0

Aromatic clove spice with hints of mixed berries and banana. Light lemon pairs well with heavy wheat bready tanginess. Slight pear note, as well. Appreciated complexity. 4.0

Surprisingly refreshing tartness with a tart apple and quince fleshiness. Not banana-heavy. Juicy pomme, tart raspberry, and spicy clove top the charts here. Green banana flashes in the finish. Unique and fresh. 4.0

Soft and creamy. Almost buttery. Light carbonation. Very sessionable. 4.0

Excellent local hefe. Possibly my favorite Sly Fox beer. 4.0

Had on tap at Whole Foods in Glen Mills PA. Review from notes.

A: Pours a hazy light yellow color with a small white head on top. Medium retention, slowly reducing to a thin cap on top. Minimal lacing.

S: Lots of wheat, some yeast, and a good bit of banana. There is some light pepper and coriander as well.

T: Similar to the aroma with a good bit of banana and some doughy malt. More spice from the yeast as well.

M: Light to medium body with bubble carbonation. Drinks easy.

O: A pretty good hefe. If it were readily available where I lived I could see myself keeping it in the fridge.

Pours a hazy gold color, surprised with the relatively small head on this. Scent brings notes of Belgian yeast with banana, bubblegum and some clove, faint presence of dried grain. Taste follows scent, light all throughout and lacking character from the grain bill, a very light tasting beer showcasing mostly yeast, mild banana and bubblegum and some spice. Lighter side of medium bodied, moderate carbonation, maybe low for style. Another ho-hum beer for the masses.

From a 12 ounce can, no freshness date. Poured into a tumblr.

A: Hazy honey colored with a creamy white head.

S: Belgian yeasts with slight overripe fruits. Pretty spot on for a typical Belgian beer.

T: Clean wheat body with light overripe fruits and slight spices. Very drinkable with good flavor.

M: Med-Full bodied with a lot of fizzy soft carb.

O: Well priced ($6.99 a 6 pack) with good flavor to boot. Well worth buying.

12oz Can

Appearance – Hazy amber colour with an average size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing.

Smell - Grains/wheat, lemons, coriander, banana

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a high amount of carbonation and most of the taste is made up of wheat mixed with coriander/clove and lemons. It also has a bit of an apple juice flavour which I haven't tasted very often in a Hefe. It has a slightly metallic taste and also some notes of corn and lots of banana. It ends with a banana and lemon aftertaste with a touch of spice.

Overall – Nothing that will blow you away but it is a nice highly drinkable non offensive Hefe. Probably one of the better ones that I've had from a can.

Pours a hazy golden amber with a thick creamy white head. The nose is a little messy and has lots of banana. It is a bit sweet and fruity with little else. The taste is singular, hints of clove and yeast underneath a dominant banana and lemon type hefeweizen flavor with a light bitterness in the back. The body is soft and creamy, lower carbonation for a hefe but a clean crisp finish. This is easy to drink and full of flavor, very simple and lacks the carbonation and spicy balance of a great hefe.

bright yellow color coming through right away. A very hazy and cloudy look to this one I have to admit, as I was waiting to find some sediment, but none came forward. Nice three inches of white then topped out over the glass and settled down lightly into a nice little pillow of white, which was reinforced but lots of carbonation.

The aroma was light and very pleasing. Nice touches of grain, light wheat and a touch of a banana like aroma all coming through rather nicely. Some almost light grass like hops bouncing around in there as well. The flavor was very crisp, very clean with a well rounded profile that was very pleasing. Nice light rush of grass and grain, light bready malts and a touch of banana again coming through quite cleanly

On tap at Bar Americain midtown Manhattan.

Poured a nice hazy yellow/orange with 1.5" head. Nicely laced as I drank.

Decent nose, banana and clove noticeable but not pronounced.

Muted flavors, however, limited this hefe for me. Alcohol bite at the end not expected (and not welcomed, really).

In the end, this is an average hefe at best.

Dark orange/tan color, very cloudy with a 2 fingers thick head. The foam leaves a nice lace after a few minutes. The aroma has a very classic yeasty banana character with a touch of spice. Looks and smells like it should be a very traditional Hefe.

The taste seems somewhat dull up front, with the banana and citrus flavors very muted. I just get a sort of tangy maltiness with an astringent finish which isn't too appealing. The carbonation is sharp, but it is also very fine, not creamy enough for the style.

There isn't much to say about this beer, it's a very average Hefe: drinkable, but not impressive.

Sly Fox : Royal Weisse

12 oz can. Bready and wheaty upfront with some faint citrus aroma. In the taste, wheat malt, astringent and grainy at times, light citrusy hops, and a small yeasty fruityness in the finish. Medium bodied with a grainy bite to it. Closer to an American Pale Wheat Ale than a true Hefe, as the flavors never really cross into the banana/bubblegum/clove range that is typical of the better Hefe's out there. Still, not a bad effort, but this ones a bit harsh and there are many better examples of the style out there.

Poured from a 12-oz can into a pint glass.

Appearance: Very nice 1/2" frothy white head with a murky brownish-orange color body. A little darker than I expected for a Hefe. The head size shrunk in by half before my first sip. Average lacing as my glass emptied.

Smell: Mild banana and cloves, followed by citrus yeast and a faint touch of spices. I found myself having to inhale deeper to pull the aromas from the glass.

Taste: Again, mild banana, cloves and lemon citrus yeast. I'm pleasantly surprised by the moderate "pilsner style" bitter finish, as I expected it to be more fruity sweet. With that said, I would have appreciated a touch more banana esters typically found in a Hefeweizen beer.

Mouthfeel: Decent body with the perfect level of carbonation for the style. I really enjoyed how easy this one went down. This is a very crisp and refreshing beer.

Overall: I'm glad I picked up two cases when I went to Joe Canals since it was on sale for $21.99 per case. This is a perfect summer "session" beer with a reasonable ABV. Royal Weisse is much better when poured out of the can into a beer glass. I can see myself drinking many of these poolside on a hot summer day. Well done Sly Fox!!

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is good, there is bananas, some clove. Taste is the same, banana and clove, a touch of wheat, easy drinking. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is a good quality beer.

12oz can into weizen glass.
Smells tasty. Ripe banana and a little spice. Looks a bit clear for a a hefe. Maybe the yeast they used settled too much. The head is nice and big however, the rention is subpar. Palate is a bit rough and ragged around the edges. The fruity esters don't shine as they should. Mouthfeel is quite nice. Creamy and lively. Overall, this is a drinkable wheat in a can, just not what I look for in a hefeweizen.

12oz can courtesy of ShanePB via the Hotter than Hot BIF, poured into a Kloster Andechs weizen glass.

Nice cloudy appearance with a orange meringue hue. Head is well retained and creme-colored. Yeasty bananas and wheat in the nose with a pinch of herbal hops. Traces of tropical fruit and lemongrass in the background.

Mineral-rich flavor with a wheat malt backing. Gone are the banana esters and hefeweizen fruitiness. Copper and sulfur on the back of the palate make for an unimpressive profile. Mouthfeel is crisp and bubbly with carbonation with a thin, creamy body. All in all, a decent shot at a canned hefeweizen, but Sly Fox missed the mark with this one.

I'm the worst kind of wussy East Coast liberal, so I always feel slightly rednecky with canned beer. I will attempt to overcome my awful prejudices with this review. I snagged two of these at the goat races a couple weeks ago, after they ran out of stuffed goats and I had to use up the tickets I bought. My brother stole one and reviewed it under the other listing.

Popped a 12 oz. can and poured it into a pint glass. Huge white head, so tall, it took two pours to get the entire can in. Cloudy honey color with thick, almost lumpy lacing. Part of me thinks I'm better than this, but I do my best to subdue that asshole.

Got a nose full of bananas and honey, with a tiny bit of malt and mild citrus hops. As if waking from a dream, I'm suddenly aware of the compulsion to put Toby Keith on the stereo. Odd.

The taste is very fruity, with lots of banana and maybe some Asian pear. Slightly spicy, maybe clove or nutmeg. The hops are mild and slightly citric, as expected from the scent. Something awful and wrong within me says that this would probably be tasty with venison, so I climb a tree and start shooting at living things. I'm not even sure where I got a gun. What is happening to me?

Overall, this beer feels a bit flat for me, but it is nice and buttery. I was expecting something more similar to a witbier, so it wasn't quite as refreshing as I had hoped. Not bad, but something about this just ain't blowing my skirt up. Can't quite put my finger on it. My prejudices have won. I finished the glass, belched, crushed the empty can against my forehead, then put on "Nascar's Greatest Crashes" on VHS. Help me. Please.
