Big thanks to johnmichaelsen for bringing me this bottle!
Poured into my large Gulden Draak tulip, Saison Vos is a chill-hazed, dark brassy gold, with a bigger, very light tan white head that leaves decent, foamy lace.

Smell is very floral, nice fruity esters, pears and bubble gum, very nice, if a little soft.

Taste is a little stronger, spicier and thicker then usual. Slightly waxy, with an earthy must and honeyed sweetness. Served cold, with a very sharp, lingering spicy finish that's phenolic with sugary fusels, but rounds out some as it warms. The effect is a puckering sourness, sugary grapefruit or lemon juice, but a more vinous acidity, almost akin to young chardonnay, or pear wine.

Mouthfeel is thicker, with an exceptionally creamy carbonation, yet dry, prickly on the tongue, a little solvent like.

Drinkability is ok, I'm really surprised this is only 6.9%, as it drinks a good bit stronger, to boozy and full for the style. It does, however, say it's made to age, and I probably should have done so, garding it until next spring, as a bière de mars or printemps. Oh well, we're still early into the fall, and having never had it before I couldn't wait!

Pours a hazy straw yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, earthy malt, citrus notes, and a nice yeasty presence. In the taste, just like the aroma, earthy, citrus, and a dry yeast. A spice bite and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry citrus like aftertaste. Nice spice and citrus notes, and good earthy qualities.

A - Bottle conditioning manifests itself as a frothy fist-full of head. Nice wide range of foam density that leaves creamy peaks. Great lacing with chunks of froth clinging to the sides of the glass. Orange-amber-golden-wheat in color.

S - Soft, fairly straight forward. Pepper notes, sweet booze, sunny-delight citrus.

T - Opens with boozy melon and pink peppercorn that rolls into a surprising amount of roast (burnt toast, smoke). Back end of the profile hangs onto some of the smoke and introduces a dimension of piney/herbal hop bitterness.

M - Great smoothness but surprisingly flat. The frothy fireworks in the pour really raised my expectations, but even putting that aside the carbonation is below par. Booze is warming but not overpowering. Nice pepper finish.

D - The negatives and positives balance out to about average drinkability. I had no problem finishing a 750ml, but won't be looking for a second any time soon.

750ml Bottle from the Potsdam NY IGA for $10

Appearance - Gold colour with an average size fizzy/frothy white head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for 5 minutes or so before it was gone.

Smell - Cloves, lemons, grapes, breads/grains

Taste & Mouth - There is an above average amount of carbonation and I can taste green grapes, cloves and lemon juice/zest. There is also a honey sweetness and a bit of a yeastiness.

Overall - Nice stuff with some good fruity notes. Well worth trying but not something I'd go out of my way to grab again.

This beer is a dark yellow/golden colour with some patchy lace and very good head retention. The aromas of this brew are spicy with hints of coriander, lemon peel, and funky farmy hops. The taste is spicy up front and very wit-like. Fresh herbal hops hit you in the tongue, and than you are pummeled by various spices, and some zesty citrus flavors. The mouthfeel is medium bodied>light and the drinkability is very good. An interesting saison that drinks like a saison/wit hybrid.

A-pours a golden straw colored head with a hint of haze and a thin bubbly white head.

S-yeast up front, light lemon and orange peel notes, oily aroma, floral herbs, corriander.

T-yeasty lemon, orange peel, corriander, notes of floral grassy herbs, light bitterness in back. very simple and straight forward.

M-grainy feel in a good way with a syrupy texture and nice carbonation to back it up with a lightly dry finish.

D-very easy drinker, very straight forward beer, not a lot happening here but still a great summer drink.

A: This poured a cloudy straw color with lots of fluffy white head.
S: It smelled like sour lager yeast and grassy hops, with some spicy and metallic character.
T: It tasted like spicy and mineral and grassy hops, with some sour lager yeast. It had a clean spicy aftertaste.
M: It was watery with lots of carbonation. Bubbly body.
D: This was a decent saison, with earthy scent and taste. It was a bit sour for my preferences, and the body was too fizzy. At least the finish was mellow, so it wasn't difficult to drink. Not bad, but really not a terribly impressive brew.

Served on-tap in a 12 oz chalice

Appearance – A medium golden body with a slight off-white head. The head is filled with large carbonation bubbles and upon fading leaves a bit of lacing on the side of the glass.

Smell – The smell is largely fruity up front, with nice citrus and some more tropical aromas. There is a biscuit-malty aroma toward the middle which is mixed in with an ever so slight astringent “funky” aroma.

Taste – A little on the sour side initially with some lemon and citrus. The more subdued sourness gives way to some hoppy and sweeter flavors toward the middle - sweeter citrus fruits with some more tropical’s; orange, mango, sweet lemon (lemonade) and even a little sweet apple. These sweet flavors are mixed with some yeasty flavors and a more sour green apple-lemon flavor, which come into play and rounds out the flavor profile.

Mouthfeel – A lighter bodied beer with a moderate to fairly high level of carbonation. The carbonation suits the beer quite nicely with the lighter body making it quite drinkable, although its thickness is lacking a little bit and it could use a bit more.

Overall – A nice “wild” brew. A little thin in the body which when mixed with the sourness makes it taste a little like an ale with a bit of lemon squeezed in (but just a bit; overall it is vastly better than this). It is well worth a try.

Poured (or should I say the beer expoded for the bottle) a hazy light amber color with massive white puffy, chunky head. Champagne-like carbonation bubble strem to the top. Nice lacy coating. Smell is malty, peppery, spicy. banana-like. Taste follows through with a firm spice, fruity, malty texture. Good creamy mouthfeel. Very drinkable and very enjoyable.

Poured into a tulip. Big thanks to psudrew for this.

4.0 A: Slightly hazed golden straw color. Three+ fingers of white frothy head with pretty good retention, but not too sticky.

4.0 S: Fairly simple, but pleasant. Main component is musty basement funk and there's plenty of that. As the beer warms up, a peachy fruitiness becomes more and more apparent. The fruitiness always plays second fiddle, which I like as I tend to prefer saisons on the dry end. Slight acid notes as well.

4.0 T: The taste is a bit more complex than the nose. Same basement funkiness and peachy fruitiness with the addition of hay, lots and lots of pear, and a lemony zing at the end. Moderate balancing bitterness. Pretty good.

4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy and smooth.

4.0 D: Good beer. Not much is spectacular, but nothing is flawed either. Actually, scratch that last part, there is one problem. The label is fucking ugly as hell. I have to get this last pour going so I can get it out of my sight. Anyway, back to the beer. All 750ml were well received and this is a good pickup if you haven't had it before.

The beer poured into the glass crystal clear golden with a super high off-white frothy and moussy head which lasted for days to lace the glass.

The aroma was earthy, grassy and a bit spicy. The spice characer was low and in the background while the aroma was more floral and fruity as the beer warmed and the head finally fell. Some honeylike aromas were also present along with some DMS (cooked corn).

The flavor was rather light with a very nice and subtle spice character coupled with a perceptible, but low sweetness that reminded me of honey. The flavor had just a pinch of pepper along with a very slight cinnamon. Earthy characteristics were in the flavor just as in the aroma, but at a lower level.

The finish was dry with lasting light spice and a very light honey hanging on till the bitter end. The body was medium with a high carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. The carbonation was just a bit overdone and a light warming does occur in the esophagus after consumption. A tasty treat!

750 ml corked and bailed bottle. Thanks BeerBeing!

Draught @ Sly Fox: This one was a cloudy, lighter golden color. There wasn’t much head evident. The aroma contains many scents. It was somewhat spicy (mainly corriander). with some fruitiness coming through also(mainly citric and banana). Maybe musty also. A very well balanced taste. Yeasty, bready, spicy, all just in great proportions. A very nice beer.

750 ml bottle. 8 oz pour. Beer is a hazy straw color with a 3 finger head that really sticks around well. There is an incredibly active carbonation and a moderate clarity on this one. Nose is nice, with banana esters, creamyness, herba, hop, spiceyness, and a touch of candied sweetness. Lots going on there...just what I want in a saison. Flavor is awesome. First thing I notice is the awesome noble hop that really comes through. The banana ester is more subdued. A moderate lemony zing comes through and really plays well with the noble hop. The candies sugar lends a very nice and subtle sweetness to it. It finishes with a very nice spicey hop that is just a bit bitter. A very complex and tasty brew. Feel is moderate with a very active carbonation that makes it feel light and airy. This one is an incredibly enjoyable beer. I really like the interplay between the hoppyness and the lemonyness. Very easy drinking beer with a great flavor.

750 mL. First impression is, this is criminally underated. This is without question, one of the best Saison examples to come out of America. Most similar to the straight Saison Dupont, probably using the same yeast. It’s a bit sweeter and not as dry as Dupont, a bit less hoppy as well. On the palate, there are some lovely fruit flavors, most notably pear and banana. This is a great saison, clearly the brewer is passionate about the style.

a: This was a bright, clear, pale yellow. It poured with a large, sticky, incredibly long lasting bone white head.

s: Sweet banana esters, candied sugar, and some prickly yeastiness. There was a little warmth coming off of this one.

t: This was one of the sweeter saisons I've tried. The banana esters tasted a bit like banana flavored candy. There are some subtle flowery berry flavors as well before a semi-dry yeasty finish.

m: Mouth filling creamy carbonation and a semi-syrupy body.

d: I prefer Sly Fox's Saison Brune, which isn't as sweet. Still, this was pretty good.

Chilled bottle into a glass. A generous extra from youbrewidrink, I believe. Thanks!

A: Pours a slightly hazy, golden body with a substantial, fluffy, and long-retaining off-white head. It clings to the sides of the glass as it falls, and it remains a decent cap on the beer for the entire time that I'm drinking it. Outstanding.

S: Yeast, orange peel, lemon grass, coriander. I'd love to have less yeast in the nose, as I gravitate toward saisons that have fruit aromas as the centerpiece.

T: Yeast and orange peel are prominent in the flavor, with light elements of white pepper and coriander. There's a lemon grass note that carries well into the finish. Again, a touch too yeast-forward for me, but hardly bad.

M: A little overcarbonated for my tastes, but that was easy enough to swirl out.

O: A fairly good American interpretation of a saison. I've had some better ones, but they were brett'ed, so maybe that's not a fair yardstick.

Poured from a corked and caged 750ml bottle into my Duvel tulip glass. Appears a dark golden yellow with a huge three fingers of dense and fluffy foam. Smells of peppery spices, and citrus. Tastes fruity, bitter from hops, sweet from the malt and spicy from the yeast. Stays very dry through the finish. Very crisp and clean tasting with moderate carbonation. This is one of my favorite Saisons. It paired nicely with some Asiago, Fontina and crackers.

Thanks to BeerBeing for the 750 from BIF 25**

Appearance: Pours with a mountainous head of white foam, large bubbles fade slowly, leaving a rocky landscape. Body is light gold, hazy, with streams of carbonation.

Smell: Pepper and Belgian style yeast. Banana and some citrus. Alcohol adds to the overall sharpness of the beer.

Taste: Sharp and spicy. Initially citrus and pepper, slightly metallic. The citrus ends this with some nice hops, but overall a very strong and assertive flavor.

Mouthfeel: The good carbonation adds to the sharpness of the beer.

Drinkability: A good, enjoyable saison, could stand a little more complexity and depth, but still a well above average beer.

I picked up a bottle of this at Whole Foods , Bowery, NYC.

Appearance is a light golden color with a small head that does not sit for very long. Its smell has sugar, light clove, banana. Saison VOS has a taste of orange, yeast, coriander, an earthy quality, with a faint bitter finish. Mouthfeel has more of the aforementioned earthy quality with proper carbonation for the saison style. Drinkability is solid for this very nice beer from Sly Fox. I am glad that I finally got around to trying this one.

750ml corked bottle bought from The Light House, Jordanstown

Poured a light golden yellow colour. White head poured big, thick and fluffy and a steady stream of carbonation maintained a good covering throughout... some sticky lacing...

A lot going on in the aroma... lots of spicy yeast mixed with tart juicy fruits (pears, grapefruits, mangoes, limes), very floral, talcum powder notes, light honey and candy sugar sweetness, some earthy farmyard traces, hay, some rubberiness, fresh bread, some pine...

Taste - Tart spicy fruits (pears, grapefruits, apples), pithy notes, quite a lot of yeastiness, floral honey, quite perfumed, light earthy funk, grassy hops, chalky, faint coriander, peppery, some thyme herbalness, metallic, sea salt... flavours develop well as the beer warms up...

M&D - Pretty sharp and dry... Light body... Extremely refreshing and drinkable at 6.9%...

Overall - A top class Saison... As good as any i've had... recommended...
