750ml bottle purchased in March, 2014 at Shadyside Giant Eagle. Poured into tulip glass.
A - Dark dark ruby brown, must be held to direct light to demonstrate brightness. Nice 1 1/2" head on pour that fades slowly.
S - Cured plum, dates, and raison with a healthy dose of spiced rum. Rum intensifies as the glass warms, blueberries and chocolate come out.
T - Sweet dark fruits upfront, a little heat from the alcohol, fading into cured dates, dark fruit preserves, and a note of port on the finish.
M - Creamy with moderate carbonation, little sticky on the finish.
O - Very rich and full quad, paired nicely with a shoulder roast braised in black IPA. I think this bottle would have been better if given a few more months, but I couldn't wait, it paired too well with the dinner at hand.

DATE REVIEWED: June 17, 2014... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter... OCCASION: year in public education #15--done!...APPEARANCE: intimidating dark black body that sports a thin white head that settles quickly--a white on black spectacle... AROMA: toffee and peat malt dominate the nostrils; fruity yeasts--peach, pear, apple--provide a floral balance... PALATE: active, warm, full-bodied--worth sipping of 10% ABV; like a strong ale in texture, but a bit buttery too... TASTE: complex fruit--plum, black currants, and banana--with clove cigarettes and milk stout properties--a demanding,, playful experience... OVERALLL: the kitchen sink seems thrown in here, with a serious backbone that rewards the drinker with hear and flavor--a big beer that could be brought out for big occasions....

750ml bottle bought from Lighthouse Wines, Jordanstown
Poured a deep burgundy red / brown colour with a slight haze... Creamy tan head poured quite foamy but faded very quickly to thin covering with thick edging... fair amount of carbonation bubbles... light patchy lacing...
Aroma - Dark sweet and spicy fruits (raisins, prunes, some blackcurrents), strong toasted toffee maltiness, some molasses notes, yeasty, caramel, light aniseed hints, some light rum traces, vanilla, some nuttiness, peppery hops...
Taste - Spicy dark fruits (definite raisins and prunes, spicy apples, some figs and blackcurrents), brown sugar / toffee sweetness, milk chocolate, toasted malt loaf, strong Belgian yeastiness, light herbal notes, nice warming alcohol, liquorice hints, spicy hops...
Feel - Quite sharp and dry then some smoothness coming through after.. Medium / full bodied... Pretty drinkable considering the strength...
Overall - An excellent Quad and one of the best i've had... recommended...

750ml bottle brewed and bottled in Royersford, PA.
A: deep mahogany color, clear, head dissipated quickly
S: dark fruits, jam-like, leathery, cidery hints
T: mellow, sweeter, cloying, leather, dark fruit
M: well-balanced, mellow
O: overall I thought about rating this beer lower but after contemplating on the style, it's not bad, a well-aged quad

Welcome to DC, Sly Fox!
Served in a "Game of Thrones" glass.
A: Poured a dark, dark, brown with a slight bit of translucence, possibly only detected by some serious astronomical tools.
S: PEZ dust, with figs, plums, and various dark fruit. Somewhat understated, yet still present.
T: Kinda strong on the sugar and Belgian yeast front. Totally overwhelming. The fruit was there, along with a bucket of brown sugar.
M: Decent carbonation bill, but this stuff is boozy as hell. Seriously, It's hard to take a gulp of it.
O: This one was fairly cheap, at only $8.99. If you're looking for some cheap social lubricant, go ahead. However, I'll pass on this in the future.
