This Abbey-style Quadruple brewed with German Pils and Roast malts and dark candi sugar, hopped with German Tradition hops. Luscious and seductive, Ichor is brewed for both the body and the soul. This beer will improve with careful aging but is ready to drink now.

Into a tulip glass; this pours a deep oak brown with black shadow just below the head. The head is frothy light cream and thick: two fingers up over the rim of the glass but staying perfectly in line.

The aroma is candi-sugar, deep bready malts, prune and molasses. It smells as dark and rich as it looks.

A bready, just slightly yeasty lightness hits the palate; the expected experience is something syrup but this is not the case. It is pleasant on the tongue with a brandy like alcohol flavor and warmth. There is the remote taste of toasted malt on the back of the tongue. Sweet but also a tiny hint of sourness to compliment. Not the deepest or most complex beer that I've had but one of the outright tastiest if you like dark, sweet Belgians.

The taste of cherry, plumb and a slight bit of noble grassy hops rounds out the flavor.

The mouthfeel does end up being slightly thin, but not to the point of being objectionable.

It is very drinkable for such a massive beer. I've had it on tap as well and that presents an even more aromatic and deeper experience. Top of the line of USA Belgian Quad styles - up there with St. Bernardus and a slightly less complex Westvleteren.

2010 vintage.

Dark mahogany with an ever active head of dense sandy colored foam that just keeps growing.

Massive fruit notes with malty sweetness and bubblegum. Layer after layer of complex fruit scents.

Huge sweetness up front with dark fruits such as plum, raisin, date, red grape and fig. Warm alcohol, woody/oaky spice, toffee, caramelized sugar and toasted walnuts. So very complex and deliciously drinkable at the same time.

The carbonation is big and pretty soft, but a touch fizzy. The body is a touch light for the style and the finish is extremely dry.

Great quad here. This is an awesome american made example of the style. This is up there with the top ones straight out of Belgium for me.

Pours from the 25.4oz bottle a cola-ish brown with a 2 finger head. I cant see much in the way of carbonation in the darkness. Aroma is surprisingly faint ( or is it my allergies?) but I catch a hint of bread & dark fruit. 1st sip is of dark cherries, plums, and a hint of caramel. It's quite sweet & malty even after 2 months of aging. Mouthfeel is a bit prickly, but there is not as much carbonation as one would expect. Overall, this is a pretty solid quadrupel, a quite suitable offering on National Beer Day!

Presented in a 750ml bottle with no date. Surprisingly and pleasantly, that after removing the cap I noticed it was filled all the way to the top. Thank you, Brian O'Reilly, brewer at SlyFox for this additional bonus of this beautiful Belgian Quad.

Pours a dark burgundy, almost a satin mahogany color. Distinct degree of carbonation is noticable with a generous foam of bubbles which forms this delicate tan head that quickly fades. As it warms and I swirl it gently, there is this hint of a sweet, fruity bouquet. As the aroma becomes more noticable, I finally need to accomplish the task at hand and give the poor palate a chance to participate in this splended sensory situation. WOW!! The old tastebuds were blessed with this banquet of dark delicious dates (filled with cream cheese), plums, and red rasberries. I poured some more of this charming concoction and tasted. This effervescence display of bubbles which are released would dance and dart within the tasting chamber providing another unexpected sensation to enjoy. There is this wonderful warming effect with this slight, but noticable, brown sugar-like finish. The finish is dry and sweet, but not overpowering. What a lovely treat on such a miserable, cold winter night.

750ml bottle bought from Lighthouse Wines, Jordanstown

Poured a deep burgundy red / brown colour with a slight haze... Creamy tan head poured quite foamy but faded very quickly to thin covering with thick edging... fair amount of carbonation bubbles... light patchy lacing...

Aroma - Dark sweet and spicy fruits (raisins, prunes, some blackcurrents), strong toasted toffee maltiness, some molasses notes, yeasty, caramel, light aniseed hints, some light rum traces, vanilla, some nuttiness, peppery hops...

Taste - Spicy dark fruits (definite raisins and prunes, spicy apples, some figs and blackcurrents), brown sugar / toffee sweetness, milk chocolate, toasted malt loaf, strong Belgian yeastiness, light herbal notes, nice warming alcohol, liquorice hints, spicy hops...

Feel - Quite sharp and dry then some smoothness coming through after.. Medium / full bodied... Pretty drinkable considering the strength...

Overall - An excellent Quad and one of the best i've had... recommended...

Poured into a goblet at David Copperfields. After 2 tries of different style beers,I was more than happy to find out that the Ichor was a quad.

A:Dard brown with ruby accents. 2 finger khaki head with nice ringing laces and perfect retention sticking to my glass.

S: Dark fruits and earthy malts.

T: A powerful sweetness transitioning into a slighy hoppy taste, with candys returning for the finish.

M: Thick,rich and creamy. Carbonation at a moderate level to add to the complexity.

D: Pure bliss with every quaff of this gem. There may be bourbon accents or just that the high abv level really takes off half way through as it warms and the scents grow.

Ichor means "Blood of the Gods", and its appearance is quite appropriate! The body appears almost black at first, but reveals a deep ruby with a mahogany cast when held to the light. Carefully poured it's quite clear, leaving the yeast sediment almost completely behind (it's bottle conditioned). The creamy, one-fingered head is light-tan in color, holds quite well, and leaves some nice lace throughout the glass. The aroma is rich with fruitiness (the skins of dark fruits melded with fresh berries) and a soft yeasty spiciness. The body is firmly medium with an exceptionally fine carbonation that's lightly zesty on the tongue before warming to display a supple creaminess. The flavor is astoundingly rich with mouth coating sweet malt & caramelized sugars wrapped in dark fruit (plum/prune, grape/raisin, fig) and spice. Intense! There's an underlying layer of leafy/floral hop flavor and balancing bitterness. The alcohol is exceptionally well-cloaked and only reveals itself slowly throughout the goblet; but mainly in the finish where it helps to dry, and accentuates the spiciness of the yeast. It's exceptionally well-balanced and the malt and spice linger just long enough to be completely satisfying but not cloying. Very well done and well worth seeking out. This is clearly a beer that will improve with age for some time; drying a bit, softening it's already subtle alcohol, and possibly increasing it's complexity. It may hold for close to a decade as any sherryish notes that arise will only add to its deep, dark, fruitiness.

Corked and caged old fashioned brown bottle.
Very dark clear body almost completely opaque at the center. Deep ruby/brown toward the edges and red/copper at the edge.
Lace, head and carbonation are next to non-existant.
Plum, raisen, brown sugar and concentrated molasses make up first impression of the nose. Quite a rush altually and the alcohol detectable in the smell if looked for.
Taste is a dried fruit medley, raisen, plum and a hint of pear and nuts drizzled with brown sugar. A very strong presence to be sure.
Even the aftertaste is malt dominated and fairly short finishing in a nutty and semi-dry sensation. into the mouthfeel which is solid, full and chewable.
Good Drinkability but be mindfull of the ABV.

This beer had a brown pour with a one finger tan head. It smelled of caramel, nuts, fruits, and roasted malts. The taste was was great. I could really pull out all the flavors that I mentioned above. The mouthfeel was thin and it left a fresh after feel in my mouth. Not bad for a strong beer.

A: Pours a very dark brown, in the glass it is a ruby red color against the light. Not a lot of head, but what is there is white.

S: Raisons, brown sugar, burnt caramel. Some strawberries in there as well. Slightly yesaty.. Definitely Sweet.

T: Now that is delicious. Raisons, caramel, fruit, and brown sugar. Definitely sweet, slightly yeasty, and a little booze.

M: Highly carbonated especially for something that has a bit of a syrup taste to it. Very nice.

D: Very good. A sweet treat that I would seek out again. Perhaps not as yeasty as I would expect from a belgian style, but all in all very good. Now I am going to grab some aged gouda from the fridge, cause it is going to be awesome with this.

Sensational brew. I’m not going to say this is on par with Westvleteren or Rochefort, but this is definately one of the better American examples I’ve tried. A little confused by it low score, perhaps it’s a newer, more improved batch. Yum, this is a great beer. The mouthfeel could definately be a bit creamier and more heavy and I wish the finish was a little more lasting, BUT this is still a great brew, worth seeking out.

This bottle had been in my cellar at least a year. It pours into my glass a dark cola brown color with mellow carbonation and a small off white head that leaves quickly. Aromas being with dark candied malts and fruits. Brown sugar, cherry, slight vanilla and an earthy, somewhat spicy yeast tone. Raisins and caramel work in as well.

First sip is a smooth rich maltiness upfront. Dark candi sugar with brown sugar sweetness as well. It rolls into cherry, vanilla and a spicy, earthy yeast flavor. Dark raisins come in on the finish. Overall the brew is incredibly smooth and silky with a touch of bitterness on the end.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a mellow, laid back carbonation. It could be a little more carbonated but I can't really complain. An easy drinking American brewed Quad that's well worth seeking out. A yummy treat from Sly Fox.

Dark, deep ruby/chestnut beer with a thin, light tan head that settled quickly to a ring. Minimal spotty lacing. Big fruity aroma of prunes, figs, and raisins, along with rich, dark malt (light roast with bittersweet chocolate). Yeast contribute some character as well, mostly a freshly baked bread smell. Alcohol is present in the nose, but is restrained and blends in well. While the fruit character from the aroma is in full force in the flavour, the malt character is somewhat expanded - it's more nutty and has a bit of toffee blended in. Sweet, caramelized sugar is solid throughout and is accompanied by mellow alcohol flavour and warmth. Low carbonation, full bodied, with a bit of stickiness. A bold beer with a nice balance and accessible complexity. I like this one quite a bit and plan to bring some back to Toronto to pass around.

Ap. Poured into a giant goblet producing a nice tan head. I said dark brown with amber bits, but others have been more imaginative...purple, copper, burgandy, orange...very nice by any account.
Sm. I said Hops! nice strength, citris, tart fresh. Woof said smells like grape flavored something, but in a good way.
Ta. I said fresh grapefruit with a little honey, caramel, and chocolate in the background. Clean finish. Woof said, I like wine better.
Mf. Full but light and crisp.
Dr. Very easy to drink it down, just knocks my socks off too quickly.
Summary: This is good stuff, love it.

After a tiring struggle with the cork, which would not budge no matter what force I applied to it, the thing finally gave way with a very wimpy "pop." Not "pop!!!" but "pop." Nice and polite. Kinda worries me.

Looks healthy enough on the pour, with a thick foamy head that snaps and crackles down to half-size slowly, sitting on top of an absolutely gorgeous dark rusty/ruby-shaded brown. The regal reddish hue turns this into quite the beautiful beer.

Aroma is clearly quite Belgian in character, especially in the yeast department, but the malts also give off a vinous quality that reminds of the best Belgian quads. Lots of grape, obviously, but also other mild fruits, mingling with the yeast in a most pleasing way. Not terribly complex, but quite nice all the same.

Here's one where taste and mouthfeel work significantly hand-in-hand. Flavor-wise this is grape-y, with a strong alcohol warmth that nobody could call "well-hidden", but with the velvet-smooth texture, the mildly funky yeast and the sweet dark fruit, it becomes more like a robust red wine or a sherry: a sweet concoction made exclusively for sipping. A beer that takes on new dimensions and certainly defies many people's idea of what beer is and can be. It doesn't hit you over the head, just pushes the limits in a different way than other big beers.

Tasty, soothing, rich, sweet, well-made and different. You better like grapes and red wine if you're gonna tackle this. The closest comparison I can make is Westvleteren 12, another vinous quad of fine quality. Not only in terms of flavor, but it looks similar, smells similar and has that same dry, sticky finish. I won't hold out for the opportunity to try them side by side, and I'm not saying it's "as good as", cuz it's not, but if you're jonesing for a Westy 12 and can't locate one, join the club and go for this instead.

Aroma of sweet fruit, weakens but lasts entire bottle
Head enormous (eight cm, slow pour), very light tan, frothy, slooowy diminishing to very irregular frothy ring and heaped frothy Island
Lacing patchy at best – some small to medium islands of tiny to medium bubbles and some ring drag
Body dark amber, clear - lot of sediment in bottom but a careful decantation fixes that
Flavor starts very sweet, tasting of brown sugar, then morphs into dates and figs; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate full, syrupy, soft carbonation

Appearance 4.5, Aroma 4, Flavor 4, Palate 4, Overall 4

This was one of my first quads 'way back when. Revisiting it now that I know what a quad actually is, I found it surprisingly good.

750ml bottle, corked and caged. sampled jan 2/08.

really had to fight to pull the cork from this one, eventually resorting to a corkscrew. pours crystal clear red-brown with no trace of carbonation or head. beautiful ruby and garnet colours when held to the light.

aroma is nice. my first thought upon pulling the cork was merlot, but i got that less when it hit the glass. alcohol. hints of dark fruit - date ,fig, bit of raisin. white bread. toffee and caramel. dark chocolate. bit of vanilla.

taste is great. alcohol, slightly warming on the way down. nice dark fruit again, a little bigger in the flavour than the aroma. date, fig, raisin. white bread. dark chocolate. toffee and caramel. low bitterness level. bit of dried cranberry. bit of hazelnut. just a touch of yeasty spice. hint of sweetness, more as fruit/chocolate/caramel than raw sugar. even better as it warmed.

mouthfeel is good. medium body. just a hint of carbonation, not enough to really do it justice. it holds up very well, but i think it would really come alive with even a little carbonation.

drinkability is good. the lack of carbonation makes it come across more wine or port-like. great fruity and malty base balanced against the alcohol. holds up very well, even with the low carbonation. i had no trouble finishing off the full 750 by myself - until it was time to stand up!

Got this thanks to zrrbrrt.

It had some sticky beer residue around the edge of the cork, so I figured I ought to drink it right off. Not a sound of carbonation upon uncorking. After removing the cork, i noticed it was gray and feared the worst.

Poured with zero head. None. Bummer.
Aroma was fine- quite good actually. Notes of vanilla, sasparilla?, raisin. Very appealing and no signs of spoilage. Taste is also superb, and there's a slight pleasant bite on the tongue. Faint alcohol warming at the finish, but well masked. Very, very drinkable.

I think that if there was some head to this, it would be an amazing beer, but I'd reccommend it regardless.

Poured out a clear dark brown with no head whatsoever. Had a huge nose, I mean a tremendously big nose. Raisin, cherry, cranberry, sherry, alcohol, all playing very nicely together. The body was sweet, but not cloying. It had honey, mollasses, raw sugar. This gave way to some other interesting flavors, orange, cola, sherry. It went down a little oily slick and viscous, warm too. Had a lot going on, especially the sweeter flavors, but not poorly balanced at all. Really enjoyable.

It pours a deep clear mahogany, ruby in lighter spots. A mere half finger of light tan head drops promptly away to the lightest of froth traces. There's pretty much no lacing to speak of.

In the aroma, there drifts a thick cloud of roasted grain, densely sweet and partnered with spice, yeast, dark berry, and alcohol. Plum and a trace of anise round things out.

Upon sipping, it's all about raosted toasty malted grain, berry sweet and sherry vinous. The savory earthiness of baked dough joins more sweetness, with plum and cola, to play counterpoint to a sinewy tendon of alcohol. A mild spicy bitterness and yeasty esters carry toward the close before a sweet, residual malt finish. The flavor is a stylistic pleasure with a dash of signature.

Full bodied, the sticky syrupy malt lays like cloying napalm on the palate. Alcohol helps dry the tongue marginally.

the thick, heavy, fruity sweetness is exactly what I'd hoped for from this quad, and even a bit more. It's blended very craftily, and even slyly, if I may, each piece meshing well with the others. The ABV is never shy, and it gives fair and due warning. Wisdon says heed it. If you're looking for crisp and refreshing, look elsewhere. But if you want a hearty, rewarding quadruppel, look no further...you've found it here.

750ml bottle: No sound at all as the cork is puled from the bottle. This one pours with absolutely no head whatsoever. This appears to be normal for this one, judging from other ratings. The color is a clear, dark brown. It has maybe a twinge of cherry red in there also. The aroma has a faint sweetness to it. Some raisins, caramel, other dark fruits. It is a bit slick on your tongue. Notes of dark fruits and caramel, as well as hints of breadiness and actually some cherries in the finish. Also a touch of alcohol on the finish. Not bad at all.

A snifter-sized glass poured at Iron Hill West Chester's Belgium Comes to West Chester.

A: The ale is a muddy creek brown color, brownish with a lot of haze. As I drank the ale, the haze became more concentrated in the bottom of the snifter.

S: The aroma is malty sweetness with a fruity aroma that highlights darker fruits.

T: The flavor is full-bodied malts, thick and chewy and not shy on the alcohol. As the ale sits on the tongue, some prunes and raisins stick out, providing a nice malty fruit base. Some bittering hops shine on top of the malts, but the malts are the star here. The flavors finish long and climax in a nice yeasty thickness.

M: The alefruits are delicious, providing a darker depth to the strong malts.

D: I wrote this beer off after an earlier tasting but clearly that was premature. This is a strong quad, full of malty strength and a very nice product. Thank God for second chances!

The beer pours a brown color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great. It has a very fruity yeast aroma along with a solid crystal and roasted malt scent. The alcohol does sneak through as well. The taste is good. It has a very drinkable crystal malt flavor as well as a fruity yeast finish. It's warming in the swallow, but it's not too powerful. This is a tastey beer. The yeast really brings the flavor together. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a silky smooth drinker. It's a slow drink, but an enjoyable one.

Vintage bottle from 2002.
Pours a deep amber to almost black color with a small white head. In the aroma, reminds me of asiago cheese, hints of caramel and a touch of alcohol. In the taste, plum-ish and really quite like a LaTrappe Quad. A smooth big bodied mouthfeel and a dry, Belgiany sugary palum in the aftertaste. Great representaion of style, very La Trappe like. Sweet and dry in all the right places.

Sweet, bubbly, tasty.

I have had this sitting around for a bit and decided to open it tonight.
A- decent head' nice lacing
S- smells like candy ...probably more sweet malt
T- sweet. Very nice, no hops, I can't taste the alcohol at all. Very well hidden by this big beer.
M-real nice, not too syrupy.

Overall a very nice beer I dig it and would by it again.
