A: a medium brown with a hint of red, having excellent clarity an number of fine floaters. The head is a long lasting thin cap, off-white leave some light lacing on the glass.

S: Dark cherries and dried fruit dominate with a light touch of chocolate and malt sweetness. There is a Christmas like spice aroma going that's mostly clove and ginger. A soft perfumey alcohol note.

T: A rich, sweet malty beer with moderate fruit flavors of dark cherries and some dried fruit. There is a moderately-low bitterness and a very light spicy hop flavor. The balance is moderately sweet with alcohol. The finish is sweet with an aftertaste of malty sweetness and cherries.

M: Medium-full bodied with a moderately-high level of carbonation. There is a good amount of warmth and moderately-high creaminess.

O: A good after dinner beer that is like sugar glazed cherries, prunes and raisins. It borders on being cloying, which I not my favorite but it's a solid beer with nice belgian character.

Sweet, bubbly, tasty.

I have had this sitting around for a bit and decided to open it tonight.
A- decent head' nice lacing
S- smells like candy ...probably more sweet malt
T- sweet. Very nice, no hops, I can't taste the alcohol at all. Very well hidden by this big beer.
M-real nice, not too syrupy.

Overall a very nice beer I dig it and would by it again.

SMELL: The initial waft reminds me of fresh ground coffee beans in a coffee shop. Just like the appearance there's an incredible contrast of sweet and savory. A lot of spiced orange peel and sweet raisins. Despite all the sweet, there's depth there, too. A heftiness, a weight to it. The aroma's not very potent, so maybe a notch off for that.

TASTE: Ohh, the taste is pungent! Tangy! A surge of sugar. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. Decadent and almost too sweet. The faintest/briefest alcohol hit towards the end, but otherwise finishes well. I think I enjoyed the aroma more than the flavor.

Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter.
A: Pours a very dark caramel with hint of backlighting coming through at the edges. 1-2 inch light tan bubbly head. Good retention.
S: Wonderfully fresh aroma of Belgian yeast and spice, German pils, and candi sugar. Very nice and very interesting...the German pils is a nice twist. Dark dried fruit and citrus (esp orange) comes through with warming.
T: A bit muddled...in turns butterscotch, candi sugar, German pils, Belgian spice, and dark dried fruit. Doesn't mesh very well. I'm less a fan of the German pils now.
M: Medium body (lighter than the ABV would suggest). Sweet and smooth. Hint of spice. Not as deep or complex as would be expected for style.
D: OK drinkability. An interesting take on a quad, but the result is not stellar.

750ml served into an Orval Chalice.

A - Pours a red cola brown with ruby highlights. 1 finger of frothy khaki head forms a creamy micro-bubbled cap that never vanishes. Great looking beer.

S - Vinous fruit, grapes, cocoa, peaches, caramel malt, raw brown sugar, cherries, Christmas cake, banana taffy comes out as it warms.

T - Prunes, dates, green figs, cinnamon, nutmeg, candy syrup, slight oxidation, raw brown sugar, unripe banana, a tartness plays on the edges of the tongue, licorice comes out on the aftertaste.

M - Moderate carbonation keeps this from being full bodied.

This beer has a raw sweetness that is seems to cry for more shelf time. It seems to lack the melding or layering of flavors of a complex Quad. I will save my other bottle for December because this beer just reminds me of Christmas time.

From tasting notes... Poured 750 ml bottle into CBS snifter. Served at recommended temperature.

A) This is a dark brown, nearly black. I poured a bit aggressively, which led to a little over 2 fingers of off white head. The head dissipated quickly. Not much lacing.

S) Roasted malt and yeast. Dark fruits, kind of like burnt raisin. There's some spice in there too. A touch of chocolate. Alcohol is also detected.

T) Fairly close to the nose, but I just enjoyed the aroma a bit more than the flavor. This isn't just all sweetness, as far as flavor. There was a little hop bitterness on the backend. I found it quite earthy/woody. Some alcohol warmth as well.

M) The body seemed medium to me, with carbonation that seemed comparable to other quads I've had. I'd say it's pretty smooth and slightly coating.

O) I don't work quads into my beer rotation nearly as frequently as several other styles, but I do know which quads I've enjoyed immensely. This does not fall into that category. That said, it is pretty good, and is worth a try.

Pours a hazy brown, with some redish coloration to it.

Nose is bready and biscuity with some acidic aromas and some of the alcohol coming through

Taste: Some very sweet malts, banana, biscuit, toffee notes and definitely a little alcohol. I find it lacking in the spicy tangy notes department

Mouthfeel: Creamy and slick, full bodied, warming.

Overall a good beer, lacks a few characteristics for the style, definitely worth trying.

Served in a 10 oz chalice glass

Appearance – Pours a deep-deep red nearly brown color. There was a thin white head upon serving which faded to give a moderate level of lacing. While not bad the lacing was less then would be expected for a quad.

Smell – Dark fruits of cherry and plum are mixed in with some more bready aromas. A yeasty and slightly tropical sweet aroma make their presence known but are still quite light in comparison to the dark fruits. At the end of the aroma enters some alcohol smell, while not overpowering it is definitely present.

Taste – The dark fruits in the nose are the first to be tasted. Plums and cherries are most pronounced, but there is also some raisin and apple mixed in as well. These sweeter fruit flavors are next paired with some more yeasty and malty flavors, with a nice does of banana mixed into the taste. There is a good level of alcohol flavor that then comes into play brining the taste to the end. While not huge, the alcohol is a bit on the stronger side. While it is warming, it is just a bit too much at the end.

Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel is rather moderate to slightly above average. While not bad, it is a tad shy of what would be desired for a quadruple. The carbonation is right, but the body is just a bit too thin for the style.

Overall – The beer has some really nice attributes, such as nice strong fruit and malt flavors and aromas, but the weaker body and the stronger alcohol presence keep it from being really good. Not bad, but not really great either.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown that turns slightly reddish around the edges. A thin one-finger head drops away quickly, leaving spotty lacing.

Smell: Dark stone fruits and raisins dominate, along with sugary sweetness. There are also citrus notes coming through, and a slight hint of white pepper as it warms. The alcohol is also readily apparent.

Taste: The nose generally gets replicated in the mouth, although a very slight tart fruit flavor makes a welcome appearance and helps to keep the sweet malts from completely overrunning the flavor profile. As you would expect, the massive ABV makes itself known throughout the taste. The beer also shows itself to be more balanced than I would have expected due to a likely unappreciated but nevertheless critical hop backbone. The full hop flavors never fully come through due to the armies of sweetness that they’re battling, but they do enough to make the finish at least trend towards dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy, but what would you expect – it’s a 10% quad!

Drinkability: This is definitely a slow sipper, but it’s reasonably drinkable for the style.

Pours very dark brown with muddy bubbly head and plentiful lacing.

Lots of clove in the nose. Mild spiciness with coriander and some pepper. Creamy banana ice cream and some malty sweetness.

Taste follows spice trail but with more booze. Alcohol is assertive with flavors following and preceding. Some nanners and spice, burnt sugar is nice, then warming booze, then warm bread with musty herb.

Mouthfeel is full bodied and warming.

I don't associate Slyfox with Belgian styles....but this was good!
