Poured 12oz can into glass. 7% abv

Appearance- Clear in clarity and medium-med dark amber in color. Lively carbonation with a white head that fades fast.

Smell- Grapefruit with an extra bit of mango like citrus aroma. Pine in there as well.

Taste- Good hit of citrus up front. The pine is stronger in the taste. Some toasted biscuit flavor in there as well. Mild bitter finish that lasts.

Mouthfeel- Medium, but definately on the thinner side as far an IPA goes.

Overall- A good standard and easy to drink IPA. Not mind blowing but a nice example nonetheless.

Sly Fox Route 113 IPA - 7% ABV - Consumed 10/08/14 - Purchased at The Foodery Northern Liberties in Philadelphia, PA.
A: Pours a clear reddish-amber with one finger of cream white foam, generous speckled lacing on the IPA glass, and some bubbles in the body. A very nice appearance.
S: Apple, yeasty breadiness, grassy, floral and slightly perfumey hops, caramel, pepper, and some orangey-peachy notes (not as strong as you'd expect). Closer to an EPA than a US IPA, but still enticing.
T: Grassy-floral hops, toasty malt, apple skin, caramel, peach, spicy and peppery hop bitterness lingers in a long, drying finish. Straightforward taste, and much like the nose the flavour resembles an EPA.
M: Medium-bodied, oily, crisp carbonation, spicy and peppery hop bitterness coincides with a lengthy drying finish. As the beer warms the bitterness becomes more noticeable and borders on aspirin-like.
O: A decent quaff that ultimately misses the mark as a 7% American IPA. Granted, freshness may be a factor as the best before/bottled on date is blurred on the can. Okay overall, but I probably wouldn't revisit this one.

(best by 03/10/14... I know... poured into a tulip pint

L: cloudy orange-amber liquid... perhaps some micro specks of hop sediment... cottony pad of dense, whipped-like, dullish-white foam...

S: fluctuating aromas of baked orange peel, ginger snap, sugary citrus hard candy (a la Runts), and a good bit of exotic, floral spice from the Orient... really, it's all citrus peels and scented candle

T: at this point, it has a lot of aged citrus character - quite perfumy - backed with a firm, bulky foundation of darker pale and toasted malt... what bitterness remains takes awhile to emerge and, once locked in, takes on a rather mellow bitter grapefruit peel tone, flower stem, and perhaps a nip of fresh ground green peppercorn... though aging gracefully, you can certainly sense that this carried a bit more (hop) electricity fresh

F: rather thick and chewy for an IPA... comes across now more as a hoppy Red Ale, but dry enough not to show the least bit of viscosity... probably not too dissimilar fresh, though I would imagine this, even in its nascent state, could never be considered light, clean, or crisp

O: Sly Fox has a tendency to have a static, almost candy-like approach to their high-hopped ales - this isn't too far off from their Phoenix Pale or Pikeland Pils (it works best in the pale ale)... the focus here, as in those other beers, seems to be to stuff a hoppy toy chest in your mug, glued to the sides of your mouth with malt paste... I would venture to say its a character that has stuck out, being rather identifiable in my experience... hops and bops
