Dark golden colored brew topped in a decent helping of off-white head with pretty good retention especially coming from a growler. I remember it being much better at the brewpub. Aromas are sweet with a lot of dark fruits. A big roasty aroma is in there as well.

Burnt flavors really did it for me in this brew. They seemed to really be more present in the growler that I brought home than the glass at the brewpub. Nice sweet malt backround. The body is medium-full. It is smooth with loads of flavor. This one had a lot more roastiness than other brewpub belgian pales that I have had, and it certainly added a unique and enjoyable twist. This is a nice one.

Poured in a 10 oz glass a lighter gold with not much head but left some Belgian lacing, aroma was yeast and a little spicey.Taste has a burnt fruit flavor with a spicy aftertaste, along with that fruity backbone.A nice beer but not up to par with many.

On tap at the East Village Tavern the other night and reviewed from geeky beer nerd notes taken at the bar..sheesh...This spicy Belgian style ale pours super clear light honey, golden amber, with a nice looking tiny and tight bubble head, that leaves very fine lace. The nose is boldly infused with bubble gum, fruit and spice (pepper is really what I get most of). Pleasantly tasty, with a lot of typical Belgian things happening at once, more bubble gum, pepper and some alcohol notes, sweetness, gin, and yeast, drying hops in the finish. Will not be for everybody, but if you are a fan of the style, this one will hit the note. Enjoyable on tap, intrigued now about the bottled version.

Pours a light golden honey color with a rather small white head that settles into a sparse cap. The aroma is of spicy Belgian yeast, some coriander, apricots, and a sweet honey malt. A fairly substanial coriander flavor, apricots, some farmhouse belgian yeast, light honey malt, and some pepper and candi sugar. The feel is light but not watery, fairly soft carbonation, sweet throughout but finishes with a slightly hop bitterness. This isn't actually too bad. I thought with the coriander profile that I wouldn't like it that much but it kind of mellows out a bit. The sweetness is in check, which is nice for an American made BSPA, and actually has some nice balance. Could use a bit more carbonation.

The beer pours a dark gold color with a thin white lace head. The aroma is good. It boasts of pale malts and that sweet Belgian yeast; very nice. The taste is good as well. It has a nice pale malt core that is dominated with banana essence and Belgian yeast. The mouthfeel is good. It is a medium bodied brew with adequate carbonation. This is a good Belgian style brew. Another fine offering from Sly Fox.

Clear, deep gold topped by a thin white head. The foam quickly reduced to a ring, but remained throughout. Some lacing was produced by the very fine bubbles. Candy-sweet aroma with a light maltiness and a bit of fruit - perhaps a faint hit of mild hops as it warmed. Mild bitterness and balanced towards sweetness, with some candy and fruit sugar character. Mild alcohol spiciness and warmth in the finish. Clean yeast profile. Medium bodied with plenty of carbonation on the palate. A decent sipper that goes down a little too easy... This beer could definitely catch up with you fast!

Served on-tap at Barcade in Brooklyn, New York.

The looks of Renard D`Or is a medium golden tone with a one finger head to it. The smell is more interesting...cloves, honey, with a dash of strong spice all come through on the nose. The taste is faintly sugary, while easy to take. Mouthfeel is enjoyable for an interesting beer that you are not forced to savor, but you might as well. Drinkability is good, a very nice interpretation of the strong pale ale. 1st Sly fox I drank & I am excited for what else they have to offer.

Got to throw a big ol' "thanks buddy!" to PEBKAC for lugging this growler up for me as a couch-warming gift, EBF weekend '09. The concept of going to a store (as opposed to a brewpub or brewery) and getting growler fills of rotating craft beers off the tap is genuis - I'm still waiting Boston. Only labeling was a small hand-written sticker on the cap. After getting through about two feet of electrical tape wrapped around the cap, I crack open what would appear to be a growler that just got home, however it is two weeks young now.

Beautiful golden to light amber that almost glows in my Allagash chalice. Fluffy bleach bright healthy head.
Smells great, immediately reminds me of my first positive experiences with Belgian beers, good sign! I'm picking up complexity: fruitiness, florals, spiciness, hops...
Tastes equally brilliant and satisfies my memories respectfully. Sharp but not excessive carbonation, spicy but not unpleasant, sweet but not cloying and traditional euro hops play a role in the background. An impressive, evolving brew that pays homage to the originals.
Would drink again, absolutely. A very good job by Sly Fox on this one.

Golden colored and worth its weight in gold...this one has a really soft mouthfeel, rich head, blend of subtle, sweet flavors and just a hint of alcohol in the taste. This is worth the trip to Sly Fox alone. Note--Sly Fox has two locations, one in Royesford, one in Phoenixville. Check to see if Renard is at the location you're headed to, as they don't always have the same line up at each place. If Renard isn't at the location you're going to, go to the other location (they're really close together anyway.).

Draught in Phoenixville: Served in a 10oz. goblet. This one pours a clear, golden color with a small white head. The aroma was a bit weaker than I expected for this type, even after warming a bit. Some sweetness and fruitiness, as well as a hint of floral. The taste is somewhat sweet, with a slightly thicker body. Decent enough.

Shining gold, glowing a glassy bowl of wonderful beer. Beyond that, was dead flat of an appearance.

Smells of esters, esters, and some more esters: apples, green grapes, banana, and a soft vanilla. Underneath this heady, nose-numbing cornucopia is a pale malt full of body with a hint of sweetness. Grassy, floral hops are buried under the world of esters on top. Hard to not sniff this one.

Taste is like a July 4th firework - it quickly explodes with flavor on contact with your tongue, slowly fading in an arc of notes before it washes away into a finish-less oblivion. Along the lines of Duvel, it has flavors of pale malt, sweet and light fruitiness near pear-like, a subtle hop input, and the tiny and soft warmth of alcohol. Finish is nil, as the heady Belgian onslaught dies quietly away. Mouthfeel is dead and dying, going flat, though it helps the beer slide down very easy. Some carbonation would have aided in displaying more of the profile, though.

A pleasure to drink. Way too easy to drink. Figures why they only serve it in 10 oz. portions, while all other beers go up to 22 oz. sizes. If you like Duvel, Pranqster, and the like, this is a dangerous beer.
