From the bottle, it pours a mahogany amber color with a nice light tan head that does hang around a bit. In the nose, it is a bit of smoke and a sweet malt. In the mouth, the sweetish malt is evident as well as a bit of smoke as well. Not bad!

Tastes just like ham and a bonfire. Strangely, it works.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a very pretty, clear, deep, dark, mahogany color with a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into no head what-so-ever.

Aroma: Nice aromas of toasted malt and smoke up front as well as some faint notes of caramel. Mainly the aroma is smoke and toasted malt.

Taste: Wow! A delicious, well-balanced, smoky, not ashy rauchbier! Tons of toasted malt and caramel-like sweetness, beautifully balanced by rich, roasty smoke. As stated earlier, this is a smoky, but not ashy beer. Excellent!

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and extremely smooth as there is no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of 5.6%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Wow! What an exceptional rauchbier! So many rauchbiers are like drinking the ashes out of an ashtray, but not this one!! This one’s malty and slightly more than a little sweet with lots of caramel to beautifully balance the meaty barbeque brisket-like smoke of the beer. This is the rauchbier I’ve been looking for my whole life! Outstanding on its own, but I bet this is absolutely spectacular with barbeque!

I don’t like smoky beers but this was pretty good. A nice unique beer from a brewery that can be rather inconsistent with their offerings. Certainly a great price point at only at $6.5 for a full pour- 4

A - Pours a beautiful amber with a minimal beige head, average lacing - 4

S - Some smoke but not overwhelming, like someone just brought some smoked meet into the house - 4

T – Malty, low bitterness, the smoke is not overwhelming (again) - 4

MF – A nice finish, dry, medium bodied, no coating or otherwise lasting smoke flavor - 4.25

A:Medium brown in the glass transforms into ruby when held to the light. a nice solid light tan head on top.

S: Sweet and smokey with an underlying grain and hay smell. Like bread coming out of a wood oven.

T: Sweet and smokey. Nice bread flavor.. the smoke in this isn't too overpowering, or cloying, like with many other smoked beer.

M: Medium in body with medium high carbonation.. the finish is somewhat thin, but I think it works that way.

O: Overall tasty. Enough flavor to make this interesting, but not overpowering. Tasty-licious. It's like tasting a distant campfire.
