The eradication of the pesky backlog CANtinues as The CANQuest (tm) racks 'em up, sets 'em down & generally does its own thing!
From the CAN: "Single Hop"; "Virginia Heartland".
I am getting an early start today, so following the innocuous Crack!, I still CANducted a slow, gentle Glug since I did not want to deal with a potential mess. An in-glass swirl raised two fingers of foamy, fizzy, tawny head that slowly fell in the face of the day's heat & humidity. Nose was kind of odd, like lemon tea with a slight grapefruit citrusiness, almost pithy. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very bitter, which was kind of odd for a Session AIPA. Normally, there are more aroma hops than bittering hops present, which is my usual CANplaint. Here, there was plenty of bitterness, but nothing to offset it, which is also not optimal. I agree with what others mentioned about: earthiness, pine, leafy vegetal, herbal, but it just did not mesh well, IMHO. Instead, it was like tea that had steeped too long and become overly bitter. Finish was dry & bitter, but not overly pleasant. A session of one is defeating the purpose. It also hurts that there is not a "Session AIPA" style since when reviewing/rating to style, these sorts of beers do not really measure up. YMMV.

Poured into a tulip glass. Poured a hazy orange with about a finger or so of white head, pretty to look at and looks more like a regular IPA than a session. Smells of pine, a touch of citrus, and a hint of malt. Taste is similar, pine up front, a little lemon and orange, and a slight malt backbone with a touch of earthiness to it. Lingering bitterness that sticks around for a while afterwards. Overall it's pretty good, more flavor than some session IPAs I've had.

Pours clear, gold in color, with 1/4 inch head. Taste is lemon, grass, grain, and tea. Light bodied and slightly bitter. Not a bad beer, but I have way more enjoyable session IPAs.

Poured from a can into a nonic glass. Color is yellowish pale. Not too enamored with the smell. Taste was ok. As a VA resident, I tend to like our home brewed beer but this one let me down a little. Overall I thought it was an ok beer but not the best that this brewery produces nor one of the best session IPAs I have had.
