Collaboration with Thunder Road Brewing.

A strong Australian-style ale. Pacific ale is an emerging style that uses fruiter hops grown in Australia and New Zealand, for this US brew the team used Aussie galaxy hops and a combination of malts for smooth, tropical notes.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip
Boned 12/7/15

A- pours a clear bright straw color with a thin foamy white head that reduces to a ring around the edge of the glass

S- fruity hop aroma with notes of red berries, green melon, mango & guava. Bready malt undertones

T- plenty of fruity hop flavor follows the nose; ripe melon, guava, mango, passionfruit and some grassy notes. Mid-palate brings some alcohol and slightly sweet malt, the finish gives more fruity hop notes and a bit more booze

M- medium body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a slightly warming finish

O- pretty unique hop profile and one that I enjoyed, hops have help up nicely after 9 months

Pours a slightly cloudy medium-light gold with a moderate amount of meringue-like head. It has good retention and leaves small amounts of tight sticky lacing. The aroma is a little light but still offers some nice sweeter malts and a hint of tropical fruit. The taste is much the same but just a little bit more robust. The body has a lighter weight to it and a steady carbonated feel.

Had this on 2016-04-18 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz bottle

A - Somewhat-hazy straw-yellow with a 3/4-finger white head that fades quickly leaving mild lace.

S - Pineapple, blueberry, light toasted white bread, floral. Pleasant but not real strong.

T - Holiday spice, pineapple, blueberry, white pepper, toasted sourdough bread with white grape jam, sour yogurt drizzled with honey, oak. The finish is moderately bitter mixed with the rest of the flavors.

M - Light-medium body and carbonation. Somewhat prickly and lightly resinous.

O - This is a unique beer. Never had this combination of flavors before. Kudos for originality. I enjoyed it but wouldn't want it every day.

A: Pale yellow, slightly cloudy with a white head.

S: Pineapple, orange zest, mango, and grapefruit

T: Just a lovely spread of delicious juicy fruit flavors, pineapple, orange zest, perhaps a touch of spice, and a hint of pear, finishing with a light grapefruit juice flavor. Good bitterness.

M: Medium to medium light with an interesting soft texture. Damn near effervescent carbonation, and a dry finish.

O: This beer is fantastic.

"Smell this!" was what I said when I first took a whiff. This ale delivered a clear blast of pineapple when I first poured it and had a sniff. I wasn't sure what to expect from the "Australian-inspired" tag on the label, but the overall taste delivered. Unlike some others who have compared the various beers from the Devils' Backbone Adventure Pack, I much preferred this to the Session IPL. The flavor of this ale did not quite match the "wow" factor of the aroma, but it was still a great beer. Color, gold, perhaps tending a bit to amber (I am tempted to call it "pineapple..."). Head essentially white. A wonderful balance of malt and hops with a clean, firm mouthfeel. Refreshing and interesting. As with some others in the collaboration pack... it will be too bad when it's not around any more.

Bottled 29 Jan 2016 (bottle), consumed 3 Apr 2016.

Looks only slightly hazy through this golden beer, sporting a stark white frothy head. Lacing is moderate, as is the head after having settled in a bit.

Nose has a striking earthy, almost rotting vegetables smell right away with a latent rubbery, dankness upon exit.

Taste is a good ways better than the smell as I do get that rubbery thing but it opens up into something more mango-ish until massive medicinal heat comes pounding in. Much like Risen, the heat brings on the feel in a wicked dryness. Aftertaste does have some sweetness lurking about.

Overall, this is messy. The heat just rips apart any hint of balance.

L: Pours a slightly hazy golden with a short lived white head.

S: Nice and hoppy. Pine, spicy, floral, citrus. some light malt comes through.

T: Mostly late hop additions. Not too bitter. Pine, light citrus and a wee bit musty and earthy in a slightly sweet finish.

F: Medium body, low carbonation. Smooth and slightly acidic.

O: A great beer. The 8.4 ABV is well hidden. Hops are well balanced with malt sweetness. Love the complex hop flavor and aroma. A good Beer for hop lovers. Wish they brewed more.

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation swirling + rising slowly from the bottom of the glass and faint golden yellow highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy white head that slowly reduces to

S: Moderate aromas of tropical/mango, tropical/guava, tropical/pineapple, and pine/resin hops over lighter aromas of sweet biscuit malts and sweet fruity yeast.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of biscuit malts with a moderate amount of honey-like sweetness and moderate sweet fruity yeast. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of tropical/mango, tropical/guava, tropical/pineapple, and pine resin hops which impart a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades away quickly leaving a lingering sweetness. Hints of alcohol in the finish as well.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Very enjoyable and something a little different than other beers - doesn't really fit a style with the aspects of a strong ale and the pacific hop presence. Definitely showcases the hops. More of a sipping beer due to the presence of alcohol.

This 8.4% ABV 50 IBU Strong Australian-Inspired Ale is delicious.

Look-It pours a clear golden yellow.

Smell-It smells of vanilla malts and alcohol.

Taste-The alcohol isn’t over-powering, but is noticeable. The carbonation is mild, but fizzy. It tastes of nutty roasted almonds, vanilla, and some hop bitters. Definitely medium-bodied at least.

Overall-A refreshing beer, but the alcohol sneaks up on you so be careful. Cheers!

Can't get past the metallic flavor. A boozy mess. Very disappointing, not drinkable. Rather than a second bottle of this in the collaboration pack (or a first bottle for that matter), I would have MUCH preferred another Vienna lager which is actually an enjoyable beer.
