Reviewed 5/24/14 on vacation in Williamsburg, VA. Poured from a 12 FL. OZ. bottle into a plastic cup in a hotel. Already drank two quarts (64 ounces) at Chowning's Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg.

Appearance: Pours a dark golden with a thin white head.

Smell: Light citrusy hops and thin malt aroma.

Taste: Nice light hop bite. Not terribly bitter, but enough. Pale ale malt flavor.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thin and no strong aftertaste.

Overall: Fairly light for an IPA. More in line with most standard pale ales. Not bad at all, a good choice whilst in Colonial Williamsburg.

Poured into a nonic a clear medium golden with a sticky half finger white head that left a broken thick ring of lace behind as it settled very slowly.Lighter leafy and citric hops in the nose, more leafy than anything,a bit of toast and caramel malt as well.I really like the subtle hop complexity to this beer, almost every quality of a a hop comes through in the flavor profile.Apricot and mango notes along with leafy/minty flavors that meld into a grapefruit rind flavor, all over top of a caramel biscuit base,it's even a little boozy for how "small" iot is.A pretty solid IPA from the commonwealth to the north, pretty complex and flavorful.

Appears a copper clear hue with a big white head, this brewed down in VA...the hops have not evolved to the east coast to the point where they have on the west coast. No worries, I'm glad to try an IPA from VA...especially one that features a badass depiction of an Eight Point buck. Aroma has a nice citrus, hints of grapefruit/lemon notes with a sweet biscuit malt base that's about it on the aroma, but solid overall. Flavor has alcohol notes that collide with the hop notes, big grapefruit/citrus peel, fruity quality with a bit of fusel alcohol notes. Medium bodied oily textures, hot finish from the alcohol lingering bitterness. So many smoother IPAs with twice the hops out there, but this is a fine beer that I'm willing to trip on...on my way to beers like Three Floyd's Permanent Funeral or Zombie Dust. It's the growing pains of having a craft revolution, imagine though for some folks down in VA, this may be the closest beer to them with actual hop expression we will see how this brewery grows and develops beyond this introductory IPA.

12 oz bottle date stamp indicates bottling In June 2013: about 6 weeks ago.

Pours a clear, light amber with a generous, thick and very durable head.

S: Quite hoppy, as expected for a recent vintag IPA, The piney and citrus components are strongest, buth there are some earthy and herbal notes too. Some malt shows as well.

T: Hop forward, as expected, but if anything more hoppy than expected.

M: Smooth, medium+ body with good carbonation. Clearly above average for style.

O: A bit too piney for my taste but recommended.
