Beer Pours a dark brown with subtle ruby highlights. Nice 1 finger head with nice lacing left in glass. Aroma is of chocolate, caramel and a slight roasted smell with a nice pine and citrus hop aroma. Taste upfront is of pine and citrus hops followed by light roast, chocolate and caramel notes.
I understand form the menu that this is a blend of a couple of their standard beers, the porter and the IPA. I really enjoyed this offering. I found it unique and quite tasty. The hop assertiveness of this beer as a brown ale set it apart from most other brown I have had, nicely done.

a blend of 3 standard beers - seems to fit the brown category well enough, but let's not get hung up on definitions here...
a: served in a large 16 oz logo glass, Nelson Brown is a deep, murky brown in color, sporting a full tan head, retention and lace are good, looks nice
s: the nose pulls in big "brown" malt aromas, sweet caramel, nice nutty toast, earthy hop aromas with some brighter citrus notes, hints of light coffee, slight deep roasted barley, sweetness nicely offset with roast and hop, very nice
m: the body is medium-full, smooth, carbonation just under moderate
t: caramel and a range of toasted/roasted malts on the palate, somewhat sweet, with lots of complex nutty and toasted malt flavor, light roast coffee, cocoa bean - sporting some "stouty" roast, full earthy hop flavor, dries with lingering roasts, moderately bitter
d: a really great brown, complex and interesting, impressive blending technique

On tap at the brewpub last weekend.
Pours a dark brown color with a good off-white head and some light lacing on the sides of the glass. The nose brings forward a bit of the Cascade dry-hopping along with some slight roast from the Ramsey's. A bit like a brown IPA, though the hop presence isn't strong enough and the roast shines through a bit more. The same is true with the flavor, where everything doesn't quite meld. Medium body and a dry finish with some roast. Overall, fairly good, but each component sort of gets lost.
