on tap at DBB outpost

A- pours clear and bright golden-yellow color with a small fizzy white head that reduces, leaving only a small ring around the glass

S- faint toasted malt with a light fruit sweetness

T- crisp lightly toasted malt mixes with a subtle sweetness of pear and sugarcane, slightly grainy finish with more subtle sweetness on the linger

M- medium-light bod with medium prickly carbonation, foamy mouthfeel with a crisp finish, drinkability is thirst quenching

O- this beer is so easy to drink and the sweetness of the pear makes it go down very quickly. This would be a great option for summer and camping season

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a semi-clear, golden color with a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into no head what-so-ever.

Aroma: Pretty nice aroma. Toasted malt, imparting notes of whole wheat crackers and biscuits, accompanied by some hone, floral notes of clover, freshly cut grass and a lot of crisp, fruity pear and apple aromas. Very nice actually.

Taste: Pretty good! Strong flavors of semi-tart pears and apples up front, followed by some honey and caramel-like sweetness. Toasted malt flavors follow, imparting bready flavors of crackers and cereals, and/or English muffins. Finally, there’s a touch of nicely balanced floral, hoppy bitterness. I like it!

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, crisp, and nicely carbonated. With an ABV of 4.4%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a nice beer. I like the fruity, semi-tart pear flavors which meld very well with the tradition lager flavors of toasted malt and caramel-like sweetness. Think a pear cider that has been blended with a traditional lager. I’d definitely have it again. Another good beer from Devils Backbone, my favorite Virginian brewery!

This is a pretty nice fruit beer. The pear character is upfront and clean, but the body isn't too thick or the finish sweet. I'd recommend it to a friend that doesn't really like beer, or anyone that loves pears.

Nice gold color. White head that disappears quickly. Nose like cider, and not surprisingly smells strongly of pear, with basic lager smells beneath. Taste follows suit: mild lager, with pear on top. Mouthfeel smooth but unexceptional. Bottled 2/25/2016.

Light color and very light head. This beer is very crisp and drinks like a cider, although much better with light pear flavor, great carbonation and a good balance of hops and malt and flavors.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. 5/27

Pours bright gold, clear, little foam. Bubbles actively rise to the top. Apple pear nose, atwixt bready malts. Fruit more notable. Taste is a light lager, but with a fuller noteworthy fruit. Blend in nicely to contribute without being pushy. Crisp pear finish. Good carbonation. Sessionable summer alternative.

It's a Pear Lager that tastes like a lager brewed with pears. It's simple and light so there's not much to say but it's an enjoyable change of pace that serves well on a hot day.

A: Light yellow, like a chardonnay , fairly clear, with small white head that rapidly diminishes to a ring around the glass.

S: Light and fruity with a lovely sweet pear aroma. It almost has a little bit of an apple juice thing going on.

T: Light and fruity, but the flavor comes off more like apples, than pear. Flavor wise it treads between a few different types of beverages, it's a little like cider, a little like a sweet white wine, and a little like a beer.

M: Medium in body, and the carbonation is moderate, although it feels a touch low for me. Slight cling to the finish.

O: It's tasty, but a little forgetful. If you gave this thing a higher carbonation, it would be a brilliant beer for those dreadful outdoor summer weddings. Just the crisp light thing to cool you down and not get you too trashed. However as a stand alone beer, it is interesting, but not phenomenal.
