Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a clear glass snifter. Bottled on 2/20/14 on bottle neck. Purchased at Market Street Wineshop (Charlottesville, VA).

A: LIght copper with respectable 1-finger, oatmeal colored head with average retention but no lacing.

S: Strong caramel malt aromas blended with hops notes of honeysuckle, grapefruit, orange, and pine

T: The flavor is a little crystal malt heavy for me but not bad by any means. The caramel note is medium-dark with a light burnt quality, like toffee, and unfortunately a little too sweet like toffee is too. Hop character is pretty varied with orange, lime, grapefruit, pine, light resin, and herbal honeysuckle qualities. Bitterness is medium and a bit on the juicy side owing to all the citrus character. There is no easily perceptible yeast character. THe alcohol is a little warming.

M: Medium body with moderate carbonation. Pretty drinkable for the ABV.

O: A middle-of-the-road DIPA -- nothing really wrong with it except for the heavier-than-average crystal malt component, but nothing really distinguishing it from the pack either.

4 pack purchased at Rodman's in DC tonight. Good deal.

Pours a yellower copper into my tulip glass with a big sticky head. Nice even lacing. Nose is citrusy hops, sweet malt, and something a bit earthy and slightly metallic. Think like you put a couple basil leaves into a can of pineapple and took a big whiff. Taste is big, sticky, citrusy hops and that pineapple sweetness. Finish is bitter and a little metallic, with a tannic/herbaceous note as well. Actually gets better as it warms a little-- instead of getting more sticky, like some do, it mellows out and is just a bit more metallic and piney if anything. Mouthfeel is a little syrupy but fairly well carbonated. As some have said, it does finish a little rough, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Overall, it's good to check out if you're a fan of the brewery and/or can get your hands on it. Victory Dirtwolf and DC Brau On The Wings of Armageddon are both fairly plentiful and a bit better, but this is more than respectable as it is and would be downright glorious with just a little tweaking.

A: This poured a clear gold with some white head.
S: It smelled like citrus zest and herbal hops, with some light biscuit malt.
T: It tasted like citrus zest and pine and copper, with some herbal hops and earthy malt. It had a mostly clean and lasting bitter aftertaste with alcohol warming.
M: It was a little thick with lots of carbonation. Lively body.
D: This was a decent double IPA with a bold bitter scent and taste. But the body was a little weak, and the finish was hot and rough. So it wasn't very easy to drink. Not bad, but not top tier.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau Dogfishead IPA glass.

Easily one of the most perfect IPAs I have ever seen. An unbelievably crystal clear body, of shiny gold and orange, literally the perfect hue of orange and lemon yellows. Thin carbonation comes up, not overly excessive, slow at the bottom, faster at the top. It moves like liquid honey in a glass. Head is a perfect three to fingers tall, clumpy off white foamy and large. Not too big, not too small. Basically the perfect looking IPA.

Real interesting nose. Dank aromas, and a hint of mushy over ripe fruit. Hints of faint tropical hop notes, papaya mango also. Some woody like character to match. Real varied.

An extremely large and in control IPA. Large almost hop pine and dank aromas, with just the perfect amount of caramel sweetness poking through. Large hints of grapefruit crush on the finish, zesty, oily and long aromatics. Wonderful controlled honey like sweetness that doesn't get too boozy either, and brings out the liquid grapefruit in spades. Large controlled bitterness on the finish, and real lip coating soft sugars.

This is easily the best beer I have had from this brewery to date, they absolutely just nailed this.
