Poured from 22oz bottle. Got this in a trade with VanillaMike....thanks again for everything Mike!

A- Poured a semi-hazy darker amber almost copper color. One and a half finger off-white head stays for a little while. This beer provides nice light spiderweb style lacing on the sides of the glass.

S- Nice semi-sweet caramel biscuty type malts come into play in the forefront of this beer. There is a apple like aroma as well that seems to pick up for a short bit in the middle. Hops are in the tail end of this beer (floral hops) and really blend just well with the rest of the aroma.

T- This one surprised me to say the least. This was a little more toasty in character than I thought it would be. Light roasted malts along with a almost toffee like taste comes through the entire beer. There is some light apple notes in the middle to end of this beer to the end. Also, a nice light bitterness comes from the hops in the backend making this a very pleasant beer to sip on.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation was good for the style of beer. Bready malts and light bitter hopping was left on the palate and into the aftertaste. Clean tasting which surprised me. There was a almost crispness to this but something was missing for me to actually say that it was crisp tasting.

D- This was a very drinkable ESB. The lower ABV on it means that I could session this beer easy without having to worry about drinking myself into a drunken coma. Will look to trade for some more. I recommend to try it if you can find it.

22oz bomber

Pours a nice deep amber wit a think long lasting head

Smells malty with fruity aroma. No trace of hops aroma

Tastes of malt, carmel and fruit.. apple-like. Hops makes itself known when it hits the back of the tongue.

Nice medium body

Very drinkable. I will buy again when I am in the area.

22oz bomber courtesy of VanillaMike poured into a tulip.

Pours a hazy brownish amber with a big thick beige head that shows excellent retention and lacing.

The aroma very malty for a bitter with lots of caramel and some light fruity hints, apples maybe. There is very little in the way of hops and more banana-like fruity esters.

The taste is also more fruity than I was expecting with a faint hop presence up front that gives way to the fruity esters and caramel malts. The finish is slightly bitter with a more toasted character.

The mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied with lots of carbonation. The finish is dry, toasty and slightly bitter.

This is a fruity bitter with more esters and light fruit than I've ever experienced in the style. A unique beer.

This poured out a copper color (SRM17) with a moderate sized bubble off-white head that faded slowly. A maltly/caramel aroma with moderate hop and fruity esters. A low level of diacetyl noted but faded quick. Moderate malt and caramel taste with a medium bitterness that lingered through the end. A medium body beer with moderately bitter finish.

Not bad... a little thin in the mouth, quite fruity, with the banana esters being the dominant flavor, giving way to a nice mildly-bitter finish. I'd like to pair this with a hot, sweet, crusty piece of toasted homemade bread, topped with a generous amount melted butter.

Obtained 22oz bomber for $3.79 at the Meat House in Pembroke, NH. Poured into a chilled pint glass.

A: Light reddish brown with a somewhat rocky beige 2-finger head (poured it hard).

S: Banana, mixed fruit, toffee. Well-rounded in the nose.

T: Toasty and well-rounded. Toffee and bread throughout. The finish is the most interesting part: banana, some chocolate/coffee darkness, and a small citrusy hoppy bite. Overall it makes me think of cream soda. Not hoppy at all, I never would've pegged it for an ESB.

M: Creamy but thin, not much body. Low % ABV, low gravity.

D: Goes down easy. I enjoyed it and will have it again. If this wasn't relatively cheap, it wouldn't be much bang (ABV) for the buck.

Gotta say, I don't understand the label. "Combat Ale" and a tank, but it's not an aggressive beer. Russian references, but it's not a Russian Imperial Stout and it's not a Red ale. Not sure where they're going with that.

Picked this deal up at Jasper's in Nashua while shopping for Hefe ingredients. Good to try new local stuff. Grip it 'n' rip it...bomber into Fuller's Impy pint glass...

Pours a turbid bourbon color with moderate carbonation. Minimal head, though - looks pretty typical for an ESB. Not too bad.

Noble hops and caramel malt abound nicely...there are slight apple notes here but not in a faulty sort of way.

Dry, husky mildly caramelized grains make this subtlely very good...slight noble hop aromas...Kent Goldings? Fuggles? That's my answer to any British smelling hops 'cause I don't really play in that sandbox too much. It's clean yet filling. Nicely done.

Palate feel is excellent for the style. Clean, unobtrusive...but with a full and hearty malt presence. Soothing finish.

Again, this isn't a style I hit up with any frequency but it's a good new local player. Am thinking this would be excellent on cask.

From the 1 pt. 6 fl.oz.bottle bottle sampled on May 1, 2009. The pour is a slightly cloudy brown with about a 2/3 finger beige head and good lacing. The aroma is sweet and a bit nutty. Medium mouthfeel. The flavor starts out bitter with a nice lightly hopped finish. A good brew.

22 fl oz brown bottle; served in a tumbler.

Pours a deep tea/light maple in color beneath a rapidly receding, carbonation-filled white head. Traces of patchy lacing without much strength.

Light caramel sweetness over a firm, toasted-biscuity malt aroma. Light notes of diacetyl along with a hint of vanilla. A modest amount of floral hops that fill out the aroma.

A touch of citrus precedes a buttery bready malt character. The floral hops have a burnt, yet bland flavor and last well into the finish. The finish is filled with a peppery spice along with a wave of carbonation. Notes of mild toffee and hazlenut make for a pleasant aftertaste.

Medium bodied; initially creamy, but ends dry. Pretty clean for the style and for the textural layers.

A delicately flavored Bitter. Nothing that will blow you away, but enjoyable and fit as a session brew.

Purchased 2/27/09 at Ayotte's in Hudson, NH. Drank Sunday 3/1/09.

Pours a nice amber, hiss of carbonation while pouring the first glass, short head, Lace retreats quickly back down to the beer.

Smells predominantly of sweet malt and the slightest hint of Fig Newtons.

Tastes malty and biscuity and after a few sips a bit of butter at the end. Still a pretty good tasting beer.

Mouthfeel was a bit scratchy of carbination then smooth at the end when the butter taste came.

Goes down pretty easy and a nice brew. My first beer from Manchester Brewing, I actually had never heard of them before. Looking forward to trying their other offerings.

A bomber served in a mug. Copper/red color with a medium sized white head. I couldn't get much in the aroma, just a bit of sweet malt. More of a biscuit taste, sweet, with a little hops bite at the end. Easy to drink, I imagine it would be a good session beer.

A- pours a slightly hazy copper color with a small foamy head.

S- a sweet buttery malt, plenty of diacetyl. Hops really are not detectable.

T- a biscuity malt with an earthy tea like hoppiness. The brew seems to lean more toward the hop end of the spectrum. Leaves a pleasant dirty grassy hop aftertaste.

M- light bodied but smooth and creamy.

D- very good. Nothing that will wow you, just an easy drinking ale. The farther I got into the bomber the more I liked it. Definitely gets better as it warms. Reasonably priced, I would buy it again.

Poured into an English style pint glass. It has a nice amber color. The head does leave some lace in my glass. This ale is very drinkable. Soft maltiness with a little bit of hopps to balance it out. Not the most complicated beer out there, but still enjoyable. A nice departure from tripples and imperial IPA's.

I picked this up to try it out. for some reason I thought it was a red ale. It pours a nice reddish amber color with a nice white head. bready malts, hints of vanilla come out in the aroma. taste is more of the same, nice bready malts, vanilla and a hint of caramel. not much in the way of hops. body was light and drinkability was high.

a solid session ale. I decide this review should be style aside. the brewery website doesn't note the beer style so session red it is IMHO.

Late night brew. I'm still fresh, so let's see how it goes.

A:Poured into a pint fairly vigorously. decent head of a couple fingers that's still at half a finger a few minutes later. Gorgeous copper amber color. Digging the look on this beer. Strange for a regular bitter, but pretty nonetheless.

S: Head has finally dissipated, leaving nice trails. butter, cut grass, currant laid under a very sweet sweet caramel malt aroma. not as hoppy as expected.

T: Hmm. The beer finally fell short. That cloyingly sweet aroma gets in your nose as soon as you touch your mouth to the glass, distracting you from any real instant first impression you would have received. the flavor rushes through biscuit malt with some banal hop bitterness into a dry, bitter aftertaste. the beer on a whole reminds me of the ringwoody taste of shipyard beers and the fact that they can never quite nail a style.

M: Mouthfeel isn't bad. nothing extraordinary. the strange taste pushes any part of your brain planning on experiencing mouthfeel into shock and you glaze right over how it feels. so that's obviously a 3. Average.

D: Goes down pleasantly and you don't have to let it linger on your tongue. It is a bitter. Should be in an imperial nonic at cellar temp in mass quantities drunk by people who want something enjoyable and uncomplicated. In that context, drinkability is decent. right now, drinkability is iffy.

22oz bomber purchased at Barb's Beer Emporium in Concord. Pours a translucent dark copper body with a good half inch of off-white head that clings to the side of the glass. Smells biscuity with hints of diacetyl. Tastes malty, with caramel, chocolate, coffee, with some butterscotch flavor. Moderate in both body and in carbonation. Not as much hop flavor as I'm used to from a bitter, but the malt flavor more than makes up for it, complex, varied, and balanced as it should be. An easy drinker too, more so than some examples of the style. Overall a very solid beer and a great addition to the local beer scene.

Pours a deep copper almost brown with red orange highlights when held to light. Small bubbly white head dissipates quickly. Smells of caramel, toffee, butter and a sweet nuttiness. Taste is sweet and nutty like walnuts mixed with toffee and brown sugar. Finishes dry with a lingering nutty, buttery bitterness. Carbonation is crisp, body is medium, mouthfeel is sharp. Decent brew, reminded me of something from shipayrd. I probably wouldn't buy it again.

Pours a three-finger cream head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Almost clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is mellow, some sweetness, balanced. More like a brown than a bitter. $3.99 for a 22oz bottle from Concord Co-op Market Concord, NH.

Cool label with Cyrillic fonts on a 22oz bottle - beer pours a chill-hazed chestnut brown with a tightly bubbled head that dissipates quickly.

Smell is strong upfront of roasted hazelnuts, some sweetness, and a slight coppery hop.

Nice bready toast and hazelnut (almost like Nutella on whole wheat toast) malt upfront in the taste, a hint of toffee-like sweetness (not very strong at all, just a whisper), and a clean, crisp hop "snap" that is mild and tastes slightly metallic.

Medium body with no fizz, easy to drink and enjoy.

Quite enjoyable, I'm glad to have gotten my hands on one. I don't know if the brewer intended it to be a brown ale, that was my guess based on the color and lack of aggression in the hop - but I'm a pretty big fan of the style and this one seems to fit that style fairly well.

If you are ever in Manchester, NH - stop by and get a few.
