I'm thrilled that a local brewery has a saison as one of its flagship beers, and it's odd that I'm just now getting around to reviewing it. Tasted 4 February 2013, reviewed from notes.
Pours a pale golden straw yellow, lightly hazed, with soft, almost grayish tones. Half-finger of white head, okay retention and lacing.
Smell is buoyant, fruity, and floral, with an almost-enough dose of funk. Orange peel peeks through, complementing the general citrusy flowery drifts. But it's juicy as well, and has a pleasant earthy funk. Hard to describe, sitting more in the realm of flowers, but solidly saisony.
Taste is good, but lacking depth and complexity. Big and pungent, rocking me with flowers, sweet fruit (peaches!), and grain. Quite peachy, actually, with that melt-in-your-mouth juiciness. I like it. Fades to a soft bitterness.
Mouthfeel is fine, if a touch on the flat side. Medium-bodied, expansive and mouth-filling. Just a prickle of carbonation, though.
A solid, tasty saison. Now that I know it, I plan to make this a regular purchase. The best 6-pack saison I can think of around here.

Light clear color with a respectable head. The nose had a grainy background, with hints of spice and yeasty-earthiness. The taste was very light, a wheat ale with a splash of lemon zest at the end and some gentle earthy spice. The feel was crisp and light, an easy drinker that disappears quickly.
If I was told this was a what beer, I would applaud it's slight twist with fun saison zesty flavors, but with the expectation in mind for a farmhouse ale, it was too light and boring. Fine taste, well-balanced and drinkable, but too plain for my preference.

12 oz. pour at the Old Village Hall in Lanesboro, MN.
A: Clear, pale gold with a white, rocky head that quickly dissipates but leaves behind lots of sticky lacing on the glass.
S: Light, fresh, grassy with a minimum of either hops or malt.
T: Clean, fresh taste, herbaceous, grassy, like a kolsch or helles. Reminiscent of Schell's Sommerfest.
M: Light, refreshing, good carbonation with a short finish. Crisp on the tongue.
O: Okay, but not my cup of tea. I doubt I'd order it again.
