Poured from 750 ml bottle into a Surly Darkness Chalice glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep oily black with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid three fingers of tan head that slowly fades into a thin tan layer. Moderate amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Dark roasted malts with a big coffee aroma and some chocolate. Sweet milk chocolate with a good amount of molasses. Whiskey smell is pretty subtle as is the oak and vanilla. A bit odd for a barrel aged beer. Light hints of dark fruits. Mostly coffee and milk chocolate here.

Taste: Like the smell leads, a coffee forward stout with light barrel elements. Dark roasted malts giving big notes of coffee, chocolate, and milk. Lots of molasses and some light hints of dark fruit. The whiskey, oak, and vanilla is noticeable but kind of hidden behind the malts. A little bit of hops towards the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy, syrupy, and pretty smooth. Finishes dry.

Overall: Overall a pretty nice stout even though the barrel aging didn't do much for it. Has a nice sweet milk character while staying balanced and drying.

Thanks to Jeff for this one. 22oz. bomber into a Founders snifter.

Pours a frothy, 1.5 finger coffee colored head with good retention. Beer looks relatively thin for the style and pitch black. Lacing is thick and layered with good stick. A great looking beer.

Nose bares hints of lactose, coffee, roasted malt, liquorice, and milk chocolate. The slightest hint of tartness too. Moderately aromatic.

Opens slightly tart coffee beans, lactose, vanilla, chocolate and roasted malt. Some cocoa powder, dark chocolate and smoke and roast in the middle mixed with a mellow molasses sweetness. Fudge and mocha at the finish with a slightly ashy, roasty aftertaste. Solid.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick and oily in the mouth and goes down sweet and rather rich. Finishes messy with a long, lingering aftertaste. Nice.

Nice complexity and body here but I prefer my milk stouts... and especially those infused with coffee, to be a bit more robust. Still, this is very drinkable and an above average beer overall for the style.

Split a bottle with a friend, though I wouldn't have minded having it all to myself. So it's a decent strong milk stout by itself, but the coffee and whisky add delicously mild complements to the smooth, roasty stout. Most coffee stout don't show so much restraint, often taking over the beer. Likewise with the whisky barrel character, I didn't even taste it until the beer started to warm up. Once obvious, I was tasting a smooth, spicy vanilla. Not on the thick side for the strength, though a great sipper. Glad I got to try this beer.

Shared by caSSino during BRoss242’s send-off party before he moves! Will miss you man! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured pitch black with a half finger light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, coffee, smoke, and roasted malt. The flavor was of sweet malt, coffee, caramel, smoke, and dark chocolate. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. This was a really interesting brew if I am honest. All of the right aspects for the style were there, but they were just a little subdued as far as intensity. I feel if they were to have rushed my palate with no mercy I would have enjoyed this one more as it was fairly well balanced for the most part. Well done, but just wish it brought a little more of its A-game.

A very dark stout with moderate viscosity. Two fingers of tan head forms and has excellant retention. The head settles to a thick cap. Moderate amount of sticky lacing is left behind during consumption.

Rather timid aroma compared to what is supposedly going on by the label discription. I pick up a mild milk stout aroma with coffee compliments.

Nice milk stout flavor. Semi-sweet malt and lactose foundation. The next flavor contributor is the coffee followed by hints of chocolate and earthy hops. Whiskey notes in the finish gives the faintests of hints that any of this beer was barrel-aged. Very heavily blended.

Very enjoyable stout body. Damn near perfect carbonation. I cannot find a fault. Could it be a bigger body? Sure but we are talking about a 8% ABV beer here.

A really enjoyable beer that I wished showed more barrel charactor. Maybe the next release will tweak the blending a little more to my tastes.
