Thanks to Jeff for this one. 22oz. bomber into a Founders snifter.

Pours a frothy, 1.5 finger coffee colored head with good retention. Beer looks relatively thin for the style and pitch black. Lacing is thick and layered with good stick. A great looking beer.

Nose bares hints of lactose, coffee, roasted malt, liquorice, and milk chocolate. The slightest hint of tartness too. Moderately aromatic.

Opens slightly tart coffee beans, lactose, vanilla, chocolate and roasted malt. Some cocoa powder, dark chocolate and smoke and roast in the middle mixed with a mellow molasses sweetness. Fudge and mocha at the finish with a slightly ashy, roasty aftertaste. Solid.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick and oily in the mouth and goes down sweet and rather rich. Finishes messy with a long, lingering aftertaste. Nice.

Nice complexity and body here but I prefer my milk stouts... and especially those infused with coffee, to be a bit more robust. Still, this is very drinkable and an above average beer overall for the style.

A-Pours dark brown. A smaller, brown head forms after the pour. It bubbles away and leaves thin sheets of lacing.

S-Clear coffee aromatics with a rather mellow whiskey barrel aroma. The beer also gives off sweet, milk chocolatey notes. Some vanilla.

T-Yeah, that tastes a lot like a well made Irish Coffee. Diluted whiskey, constant coffee, oak, roast and sweet milk chocolate. Vanilla and some burnt caramel. Finishes with coffee.

M-Heavier bodied but not quite "thick". Moderate carbonation. Flavors don't linger for very long.

O-I enjoyed this one a lot. The name matches the flavor very well. The whiskey isn't overpowering and I enjoyed that aspect, too. A cool beer.

This year's vintage, tasted 15 May 2014.

Pours black, deep brown at the edges. One finger of medium tan, creamy foamy head. Good retention, excellent lacing. Quite nice.

Smell is coffee and sweet stout. The coffee aromas are quite pleasant, rich and roasty but not sharp. The sweetness comes through milky and also rich, making for a creamy chewy meal of a smell.

Taste is all those things, and maybe, if I dig, the faintest hint of whiskey. But really, it doesn't need whiskey - there's plenty of other stuff going on in here. The milky sweetness is prominent, so much so that I don't get the potency of the stout. I also don't get all that much of the coffee. But those additives (the barrel, the coffee) add depth and nuanced flavors that build the beer up, even if they don't shine through in their individual glory. Yummy stuff.

Feel is excellent. I would hope so, given that it's a big high-ABV milk stout. Rich, with that lactose slickness that makes it feel so nice. Carbonation is low, just high enough to provide what it needs to.

This is a tasty beer. It's not as out-there as the description would suggest, mainly because all those elements come through in subtle ways, rather than whacking you with each one in turn. I like it.
