finally new beer from what has been a totally stagnant brewery in upslope. basil, lemongass, and belgian yeast all make an appearance in this vibrant almost green tinted yellow shiny beer, almost the color of its can. great head on it, radiant look, nice bubbles, really neat looking. the nose is herbal, basil for sure, but also a lot of citrus and a decent estery belgian yeast, but a lot like their belgian pale in that regard. the taste is good as a wit, but brutally frustrating as an ipa, i mean, come on, there is nothing ipa about this, just because its hopped up a tad bit more than your craft lager, that doesnt make it an ipa. what is with these breweries throwing the term out so loosely? is it because they sell better? if you call it a thai wit, id still buy it, come on. more hops wouldnt even make this an ipa, as its dominated by the belgian yeast. body is real light and the finish is real clean for all the unique ingredients in it, and carbonation is super refreshing. all great features in a beer over 6% abv. fun stuff, and if it didnt claim to be an ipa, id like it that much more. upslope needs to start putting new beer out to stay relevant, and this is a good start.

Yellow can labeled Thai Style White IPA, so this listing might've been something they originally had on draught, but yay, it's in the mix boxes now. "Ale brewed with Asian-inspired spices" indicated on the can, those identified as ginger, coriander, thai basil, and lemongrass, and also says they used a Belgian wit yeast. 6.5% ABV.
Pours a pale straw yellow, thick white head, cloudy, lightly effervescing. Did this one in a Chimay goblet. Nose is super-awesome, flowery, sweet, juicy, hoppy, definitely basil and lemongrass coming through, as well as some light yeast behind all of those. Really taste the basil and lemongrass as well as the hops, which all fit nicely together. Very herbal, almost saison-like, comes in with bold flavors and leaves with medium bitterness. Actually a little more lively carbonation on the tongue than it appeared to have just looking at it in the glass.
This is a different take on a white IPA, and it's extremely good. In the mix pack right now as I said but supposed to do a full release later in the summer (as they did with the Belgian Pale earlier this year). This beer kicks ass. Can't wait for the full release later this summer. Upslope continues to impress.
