Appearance: thin white head recedes quickly with plenty of lacing. Color is slighty cloudy gold. No visible streaming carbonation.
Aroma: some mild citrus, earthy, and floral hops. Some yeast and lightly toasted barley. Mouthfeel: light, watery, slick mouthfeel. Quite dry finish.
Flavor: strong herbal bitterness and a soapy flavor along with some sweet breadiness & some raisin, but very much in the background.
Overall: this is a bit of a strange one. Wasn’t awful but not great either. The aroma seemed quite distinct from the taste and not in a complimentary way.

I knew I would meet again with Upslope. One tasty brown ale 18 months ago has led me to purchase their pale ale. Out of a 12 ounce can, on to the beer:

Half an inch of head rests top this electric, light orange beer. It looks vibrant in a glass, and adding texture to that is the lacing which whips around the glass. Vibrant as it looks, it's anything but that in the aroma. It's difficult to pick up any aromas immediately, like smelling water. What I do pick up is not good. There's a slight sourness which is acidic and not what I was looking for.

A pale ale that has a sour taste? Well, Upslope has managed to do that. Somehow, I can taste the potential of the beer masked behind that acidic note. With notes of honey blossom, graham cracker, and a brush of floral hops, overall the taste is just passable without being relegated to the sink. It's a medium bodied beer with moderate crispness.

This wasn't the homecoming that I was looking for. I expect to give Upslope another try, but not with the Pale Ale.

Packing for a move and doing one of these straight out of the can with leftover pizza. The ones I poured into a glass last night though are pretty much what you would expect visially for a PA: medium amber, clarified, bit of a head to it that went away pretty quick, but was impressive at first. Smells of grass, grain, malt, light fruit in the background (and yes I did totally crush the can up to my nose to pick that up). Aroma is quite nice. Flavor wise I don't know if I can express how well this goes with pizza, there's the graininess to it from the nose, and then fresh lime zest and bitter back end. Breaks away pretty clean, just leaving a slight lingering bitterness. Refreshing, and while light in the mouthfeel, is not empty or airy. I think they made the ingredients work well for them in this 5.8 single-hop pale; another win for the much-underrated Upslope. Overall, very good, perfect for day drinking. Try it with pizza. Or when moving.

Golden yellow body with plenty of lively carbonation and a thick, chunky white head. Wet grass, a touch of spice, and light malt grain aroma. Mild grain flavors with a spunky, bold hop bitterness. Medium bodied; fizzy; clean and dry finish.

An easy drinking beer, not very big on the hop aroma or rich malt flavors, but pleasing all the same. There's a mild tang and bite due to the hop bitterness and effervescence and a subtle fruity juiciness lurking in the background. Good and enjoyable.
