look: 2.75 | smell: 3 | taste: 3 | feel: 2.75 | overall: 3

Appearance: pours a 1"+ off white head which recedes slowly, plenty of lacing. color is a somewhat cloudy copper, with some carbonation streaming.
Aroma: citrus is the dominate aroma. Also some pine and bread dough.
Mouthfeel: fairly light bodied, not much carbonation, and sticky. Finish is somewhat astringent. Flavor: hops are quite dominant. Bitter citrus rind, grapefruit, pine oil are present in the first taste and the finish. There is a brief interlude of sweetness in the middle with some yeasty roll and a slight caramel.
Overall: a decent IPA and representative of the style.

Pours a clear, copper color with a tight, white that leaves chunks of lacing.

Smells of earthy and floral hops with some pine on the backend with some toasted notes.

Tastes of the floral and earthy hops with a fairly big malt backbone. Malts lead off with toasted notes leading to some caramel sweetness and syrupy notes. This leads into a bit of citrus and pine, but then bigger earthy and floral notes come in. Leans toward the sweet side and finishes that way.

Mouthfeel is medium with a crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a good IPA, however, it is malt heavy for the style.

A - 3.5 - Orange-brown murky color with sparse white head that actually leaves pretty nice lacing.
S - 4.0 - Nice grapefruit, garlic, onion, orange, lemon-lime, pretty damn hoppy.
T - 4.0 - Garlic, grapefruit, pine, citrus zest. Background malt is mostly covered by hops.
M - 4.0 - Light-medium mouthfeel. Alc covered. Aftertaste is garlicy pine.
O - 4.0 - Good IPA.

Poured from a can into a pint shaker

Pours a nice new penny copper. Only a hint of haze.

Nose is surprisingly light. Very little hop in the aroma. Malt is slightly biscuity, bread dough smell. Not bad, but would expect more hop aroma from an IPA. Admittedly, this can has a few months on it, so there's that.

Taste is pretty much what you'd expect from an IPA. it's crisp, clean, and the first thing to really take hold is the bitterness. It's not a tongue scraper, enamel dissolving bitterness, but it is bright enough to let you know you're not drinking a Big 3 lager. However... that's about it. That moderate bitterness dissolves into the same biscuity malt from the aroma, then it all fades away. It's far from bad, it just fails to wow. Nothing wrong with that, mind you. Not every IPA needs to play speedbag with your uvula like some outtake from a otolaryngologist's version of Rocky. But when one sees "Colorado" and "IPA" on a brew, one doesn't expect the more subdued (some might say refined) "East Coast" version of the style. So in short, yeah, it's very good. It just falls into the "is that it?" category.

As far as mouthfeel, they hit it. It isn't lightweight, it isn't thick, it's just what an IPA needs. Light-ish, with enough substance that you know you're drinking. Can't really ask for more than that.

Overall, I feel like my review makes this seem worse than it is. It's very good, and there is certainly room for the more laid back, less aggressive IPA in the beer market. One just doesn't expect to find it in Boulder. Then again, that might be one of the places where it's most needed, to combat the "oh yeah, well MY beer has infinity plus 1 IBUs! One drink and your taste buds file a restraining order!" attitude. This is quite good. It is simply difficult to get past preconceived notions as to what one thinks it should be in order to rate what it is. Well worth a try.
