12oz can, another unassuming offering scooped up in the great grocery store, GABF-adjacent run of 2014.

This beer pours a clear, bright pale golden yellow hue, with a teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and rocky bone-white head, which leaves some well spread out chunks of wayward island lace around the glass as things sink away.

It smells of sharply biscuity and crackery pale malt, sedate lemon rind fruity notes, the suggestion of mild gasohol astringencies, and earthy, leafy, and duly grassy hops. The taste is bready, lightly doughy, and somewhat biscuity pale malt, the ghost of the caramel sweetness that never was, a touch of innocuous dead yeast, well-aged Riesling heat, and slowly doled-out leafy, grassy, and reap-worthy hay-like hops.

The bubbles are pretty sedate, but more than capable of fulfilling their quotidian support duties, the body a so-so middleweight, and tentatively smooth, the indecisive hops yet to determine what I feel right about now. It finishes a tad off-dry, the typical Czech Pils essences just too distracting by this point.

Wow - I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised that this brewery could spit out such a heady ode to the best Bohemian pilseners out there - they surely do. Perhaps I should have known this from the outset, given their basic, but still engaging ingredient list: Snowmelt, Malt, Czech Saaz Hops, and Lager Yeast. A recipe for success, if I've ever seen one.

APPEARANCE: A pale, straw colored beer flows out of the can and just barely squeezes into a pint glass with a perfect two fingers or white head that crowns just a touch of the rim of the glass. The head seems to sit and stay forever, receding just a quarter-inch or so in the first two minutes since the pour. While the lacing is consistent throughout the glass (and looks quite pretty), it is fairly thin. Overall, great looking, appetizing beer.

SMELL: Pretty clean on the nose with a hint of bready malt and a touch of citrus.

TASTE: Compared to most Pale Lagers, this beer has a ton of flavor, starting with the hops. They provide a nice grassiness with a touch or earthy and citrusy (mostly lemon) character. The bread from the nose is still present along with the tiniest touch of funk.

MOUTHFEEL: This is an exceptionally easy beer to drink. Light in body and dry (with just a tiny bit of malty sweetness to balance) I have almost finished this beer before this review I’m writing, which never happens.

OVERALL: What this beer lacks is one of its greatest strengths; that sweet, corn-syrupy taste and feel that most Light American Lagers have way too much of. It keeps the beer refreshing and easy to drink. It is just what I’m looking for out of an American Lager, but never find with the big boys.

A: 4.25 - Pale, bright straw gold color with a thick half-inch head.
S: 3.75 - Clean malt, not very grainy, light hoppiness.
T: 4.0 - Most of the flavor is in the malt, a touch bready, with moderate bitterness and nice German hop taste. Clean, easy drinking.
M: 3.75 - Neutral texture, light bodied.
O: 4.0 - Nothing exciting here, but this is a solid session beer.

I like a lot of lighter beers, though this style is kind of blah for me. But this is a very good lager, and it tastes good in the can too, which is a plus. Not everyone gets canning right, but these guys do. It's just a bit heavier than a session beer, but you can still do that without much trouble.

Really well crafted for sure, a really basic single hop lager with no frills about it. They did a great job of keeping and imperfections in this basic beer. Just a crisp lager with a light malt body and Saaz hops that add I slight spicy hop profile on an overall bright grassy beer . Great intro craft beer for people.

Pours lightly yellow to straw. Well carbonated, with a pretty big head for this style.

Aroma and taste are surprisingly complex for what's essentially a simple beer style. I get sweet grass and hay, just a smidge of funk, grain silo, fresh meadow, crispy hops, and a tinge of mowing the lawn on a cool autumn morning.

Body is ridiculously drinkable, yet still has character, with a bit of a slick finish and a crispy hops afternote. Plentiful carbonation. Upslope = damn good beer.
