Had on tap at the Upslope taproom in Boulder, CO.
Color is a beautiful deep purple from the wine, no doubt. This is the standard Upslope IPA aged in used oak cabernet barrels. Thick and dark lacing on the glass.
Smell is very grape like, with subtle hops and warm alcohol/wine smells.
Tastes like nothing I have ever sampled, a decent balance of ale and wine grape flavor, slightly sweet but rich and satisfying. Each sip reveals more layers of flavor here as my palate adjusts.
Mouthfeel is rich and a little sticky, satisfyingly thick with the wine residue and oak.
Overall, a different and delicious beer, one of the more interesting of the barrel aged beers of this ilk.

appearance - an odd purple brown. not sure ive seen a color like this before. off white/light multi-colored head. good lacing
smell - cabernet sauv grapes, sugar, oak, beautiful. minor hops.
taste - wow, far too sweet. sweet grapes, with sugar (almost like a kool-aid), hardly any oak and some hops.
mouthfeel - cloying, thick bodied, and decent carbonation which is disturbed by the cloying.
