After patiently waiting for 10 months inside Whiskey barrels(found out it is Stranahan's), Upslope's Barley-wine has emerged!
Drinking at the taproom:
The beer poured a murky brown with auburn edges. Off the tap poured a billowing head which dissipated into a nice bubbly cap.
Aroma is a solid and deep toffee and caramel with brown sugar, vanilla, oak, whiskey, dark fruits; plums, raisins, figs, with cherries, apples and coconut.
Taste follows in suit, big caramel and toffee front, flowing into brown sugar, raisins, whiskey, figs, and coconut with vanilla, caramel and toffee closing it down with present but never overpowering alcohol. Flavors don't last quite as long as the nose would suggest.
Mouthfeel is thick and coating, and heavy on the tongue.
Overall this beer is a delight. Only drawback I found was it's depth. It was deep, complex and layered but I kept comparing it to Bligh's (another Stranahan's BA Barleywine) and I thought this one just left the palate slightly quicker than I remember Bligh's doing.
Cheers Upslope, your one offs are killing it! If you ever see this, drink as much as you can!

Made the 4-mile treck to the taproom (for the first time) just to get my hands on this Barleywine.
A: Deep, dark brown in color. The taproom is very well lit, but light only penetrates the top edges of this beer, not so much due to the color, but to the murkiness. The head was big and thick, but dissipated rather quickly. Lacing is thin, but consistent rhroughtoit the glass and very attractive.
S: The guy sitting next to me took one sniff of this stuff and said "Whoa! That is intense.". Also, the last guy to review this one got a big dose of aroma as well. I get a decent aroma, but it is not as strong as I would like for a Barleywine. That said, toffee, brown sugar, caramel and a hint of banana bread are dominating while a faint, citrusy hop aroma lurks underneath.
T: Delicious. We'll start with that. The brown sugar, toffee and caramel come through very string in the taste. Banana is also fairly strong with a slight pine and lemon hop flavor lurking. The aftertaste is short-lived, but pleasant, leaving a the faint taste of tobacco on the palate.
M: Creamy and silky. There is no sparkle at all here, but for such a rich and flavorful Barleywine that is perfect.
O: I have always enjoy Upslope, but this is a step a solid step above what I am used to from one of Boulder's hidden gems. Come to Boulder, drink this Barleywine.

At the taproom, out of a tulip, experienced right next to this kkrez fool.
Appears murky and caramel-brown, like an unfiltered apple cider or something.
Smell starts with malty sweetness (dark fruits: raisins, dates; tropical fruits: pineapple, banana), gets a bit bourbon-boozey, with vanilla and caramel and toffee, eventually strikes me with a hint of the bourbon booze and a slight pecan-like nuttiness.
Taste is very similar to the smell: dark and tropical fruits, but with some chewy, biscuity malt action. Bourbon comes through as caramel, toffee, and vanilla, and the barrel-aging seems to keep these flavors from being especially booze-like. Finishes with caramel, dark fruit, vanilla, and some nutty characters.
Mouthfeel is the best part of this beer in my opinion. Chewy and thick, a little viscous, but overall exceptionally creamy. Sexual.
Overall I think this is a fantastic take on this style. I love when a barrel-aged beer can maintain a nice, thick body, and this did so rather well. I only had a Bligh's once, and I think this one holds up to it, but honestly I cannot make too genuine a comparison. I hope they bring this to the Boulder Strong Ale fest, because I want to have it next to others of the same style. Cheers.
