Upslope Belgian Pale:

APPEARANCE: The BPA pours bright orange in color, but with a slight haze. A finger of stark white head lasts a few moments before settling into the wafer thin, white cap that remains atop the beer throughout. Lacing is thin, but consistent from top to bottom of the glass.

SMELL: Light banana with hints of citrus. Coriander and hints of grass creep into the nose around the edges.

TASTE: Clove, coriander, citrus and some spicy hop flavors are all tied together by a consistent, but subtle banana flavor. A very slight minty taste hits the back of the palate and a nice, spicy finish takes wraps it all up.

MOUTHFEEL: Given the style and ABV of this beer it is incredibly light-bodied and refreshing. It goes down easy with a pleasant, thirst-quenching sparkle. While there are some sweet fruit flavors, the yeast provides a dry finish, again, adding to the overall drinkability of this beer.

OVERALL: It really is hard to believe this is a 7.5% beer. It's just so easy to drink. Perfect porch beer for this time of year.

Poured from the 12 ounce can into a snifter.

Golden, semi-hazy body with no visible carbonation. There's a pretty head on this, about a finger thick and burly-looking, like a blanket of pale white. It dissipates rather quickly into a layer of lace.

Sweet and malty with a hint of Brett yeast upon the first whiff. Somewhat floral in aroma, it reminds me a bit of Karmeliet Tripel. The hop presence isn't highly pronounced, aside from the floral presence.

This beer drinks nice and mellow. Still getting a floral yeast flavor and some sweet malt. I get a hint of hop flavor and bitterness, something earthy and floral, but this beer is really more malt-heavy. I do notice hints of grapefruit, but they are of the understated variety.

The beer is medium-bodied, but still retains good drinkability and has a nice effervescence. Sweetness, as I've mentioned, is big here and the bitterness only slight. The finish is yeasty and long.

I suppose I'd want a stronger hop presence from this beer. It seems to me that it has more in common with a sweet, malty tripel and than a BPA. If I ignore the style and my own expectations, I can still enjoy this beer plenty.
