Thick black pour with a finger of dark brown head.. Totally opaque.. Impressive!
Smells sweet, lots of toasted grains, dark chocolate, grassy hops.
Flavor is nice and roasty with a subtle Chocolatey sweetness. Lots of roasted grains, charred oak, dirt, earthy, bitter black coffee but still well rounded out by the sweetness of the grains.
Full body with medium to low carbonation. A thick, heavy bold stout. Really great example of the style and bitter/roasty just how I like them.

Been holding onto this one for a nice chilly night, perfect time for a good RIS. Thanks to jonpacker (Reddit) for this one.

Pours a quite dark mocha colored 1 finger creamy rich head that fades pretty slowly with nice lacing, pitch black beer, no light coming through, some legs as well.

Nose lots of dark malts, super dark 90% cacao like dark chocolate, bittersweet as well, some oats in there too, bit of black malt, hint of roast, some creamy cocoa and even a touch of vanilla like character, rich chocolate mostly, faint touch of booze.

Taste starts rich and creamy, plenty of dark malts again, and lots of varying chocolate. Starting with very dark bitter chocolate, baker's chocolate and lots of it as well as dark 80% cacao like chocolate. It also brings a quite creamy milk chocolate and perhaps a little lactose, but the oats are there and add the creamy sticky feel themselves and little toasted oat flavor. No real roast this time, but a hint of black malt with all the dark chocolate, as well as a little caramel and hint of nougat, mild sweetness. Bitterness comes from dark malts as well as some mild earthy chewy hop characters that don't get too strong in hop flavor. Booze is warming at best and drinks pretty well, with just a touch of a booze flavor on the back end. Finish is pretty dry with more creamy feel, lots more various chocolate flavors, and lighter but a bit of bitterness.

Mouth is fuller bod but a bit on the med side, creamy but still seems a little lighter than it should for some reason, decent carb, little warming booze.

Overall pretty nice, good dark malts, nice loads of varying chocolate, nice creamy oat flavor, nice bitterness with good touch of hop characters, and booze is nice, but just a bit of a booze flavor on the back end. Pretty well drinking for a nice RIS, probably lagered as well which is why it feels a little light on the body but still very drinkable and so smooth.

Poured into a Stone Brewery flute glass. Pours pitch black with a half finger light brown head that dissipates to a thin film and thick ring around the glass leaving slippery lacing. Aroma of toasted malt, licorice, hints of chocolate and molasses. Flavor follows aroma, with toasted malt with hints of char, licorice, light coffee and chocolate. Finish is much milder toasted malt and light hop bittering, but interestingly a lingering aftertaste of nicely balanced toasty malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with mild creaminess from the oatmeal. A dense, flavorful dark stout that has an interesting flavor progression, appearing to finish more attenuated than the start, but ultimately leaving a long, lingering, satisfying and nicely melded flavor. Alcohol is well hidden. Very enjoyable, glad I chanced upon this bottle.

Served in a bottle at Tørst in Brooklyn, NY

A: Pours an opaque jet black in color with minimal amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the edges of the glass and some dark garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger thick creamy dark tan head that reduces to a medium sized patch of thick film surrounded by a thin film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark roasted malts, earthy yeast, and dark fruit sweetness.

T: Moderate flavors of roasted dark malts with light amounts of dark fruit sweetness. Light hints of anise and a moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Overall the rather robust 10.4% ABV is well hidden from the smell, taste, and mouthfeel but this is a big beer and needs to be slowly sipped. A little too intense to be an easy drinking beer but enjoyable.

Bottle at Tørst, Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a finger high tan head that died down and left a large patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark malts and yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell and has some notes of roasted malts in the background. Hints of anise are also perceptible.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is strong but doesn't taste nearly as strong as its alcohol content. Nevertheless, it is a sipping beer.

A: Motor-oil-black color and the small dark brown head holds loads of red hues. Decent lacings.

S: Dark dried fruits. Sweetness to the roasted dark malts. Strong black coffee, some dark chocolate and mild licorice.

T: Hard roasted, almost burnt, dark malts, with rich sweetness. Strong black coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Dark dried fruits, but a bit held back compared to the smell.

M: Bitter but also sweet long aftertaste. Body is thick, almost syrupy while carboantion is moderate. Smooth and the high ABV is well balanced.

O: Nice Stout with a little of everything in a nice mix. Well-crafted and -balanced.
