Great Crescent Mild Ale is a Midwest interpretation of a classic English-style Mild. This beer has moderate malt aroma with biscuit, caramel and lightly roasted malt flavors. The bitterness of this beer is kept low and most people appreciate that there is a lower alcohol level without compromising on malt balance and flavor. The Great Crescent Brewery uses 5 different malts to create this beer. Our mild ale is mahogany color, clear and unfiltered to so we can maintain the fresh natural flavors craft beer drinkers are seeking.

16 oz, generic Great Crescent can with a "Mild Ale" sticker (as in picture).
Deep reddish mahogany color, light tan head. Not alot of retention, this lace lines left on the glass.
Smells malty sweet, some toffee, cocoa.
Tasted malt flavor, slightly chocolatey. Balanced malt sweetness.
Mouth feel was medium, good carbonation level. Dry finish keeps you coming back for more.

I have had this CAN in my reefer for so long that I CANnot remember who sent it to me in furtherance of The CANQuest (TM), but today being New Beer Sunday (NBS Week 365), this seemed like a good time to make the Crack & Glug happen.

From the CAN: "Great Crescent Brewery is located on a sweeping curve of the Ohio River. Our brewery is rooted in an area founded by folks of a pioneering spirit, who forged new lives in the rich wilderness. We promise to embrace the best of these qualities in our deeds and in our hand-crafted beers, which will always be authentic, down-to-earth and full of life. Thank you for buying our beer. [undersigned] Dan & Lani Valas".

The Crack revealed a CAN that was brimful with beer! Way to give me my money's worth! The aggro Glug still only produced a finger of soapy, light-tan head with poor retention. Color was a deep ruby red with NE-quality clarity. Nose was redolent with malty sweetness, including notes of cocoa, caramel, toffee and a slight roastiness. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium and the taste was spot-on for the style. It was slightly toasty, but the sweetness of the malts really shone through. I was reminded of those chocolate animal crackers that I once enjoyed as a kid. That reminds me, they might be a good snack for my students. Not beer, the crackers. That has it - crackery chocolaty - that was the taste! Me likee. Finish was mostly dry and it was a satisfying beer. I am curious as to its ABV as this could easily be sessionable.

Pour - dark hazelnut and auburn in appearance with a wispy off-white head on top. Light carbonation with a clean look.

Aroma - fresh roasted coffee, brown bread with honey, caramel,

Taste - this beer has such an amazing roasted malt flavor that you would swear it was brewed with coffee. Lots of toasty, bready notes along with a sweet, caramel finish. Nothing light or weak about this brew, just lots of malt flavor that has many layers. So many great flavors in this beer, wow. Finishes with a kiss of toasty sweetness.

Overall - absolutely fantastic beer! If you're a fan of brown ales, coffee stouts or porters, Scottish-style ales or anything else that focuses on maltiness than this is a beer you'll love. So much great roasty, toasty flavors that is soft on the palate and extremely pleasurable to drink.I f you're a fan of malty brews than you've got to get your hands on some cans of this. Very well done Great Crescent!

Woodychandler comes through with yet another canned beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a dark copper color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is a bit nutty, some malts. Taste is also nutty up front, some malts, hops kicking in at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

16 ounce can. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear amber/brown color with a half inch off-white head that went away quickly. There's a decent amount of lacing left behind on the glass. Aroma is toasted malt, toffee, and some caramel malt and nuts. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some light hops. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit coating but it's also a bit watery too. It goes down smooth and is easy enough to drink. Not a bad brew, it's always nice to see more breweries can their beer. I'd buy this again, I'll have to try and make it to their brewpub/brewery sometime.

Pours a medium brown color with a half finger tan head. Aroma full of caramel, biscuits and nuts. Taste replicates the bready malts and caramel notes but balanced nicely with a pinch of hops. Mouthful is silky and not as full bodied as one would think. Finishes a tad dry but with a good aftertaste. Extremely session able.

From notes about sample at the brewery.

A: Murky amber brown with off-white head

S: Subdued caramel and a bit nutty

T: For a low alcohol beer (around 3-4% I think the brewer told me) this is pretty flavorful. It was my second favorite beer after the stout due to its nutty, biscuity flavor.

M: Felt good in the mouth, went down easy

D: High. This is a great session beer with the low alcohol and good flavor.

Draft at brewpub.

Poured clear dark amber color an average fizzy white head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate sweet roasted malt aroma. Medium body. Moderate roasted sweet flavor and medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

Soft flavorful drinkable beer.
