Poured on-tap at the Tap House and served in a shaker pint, the beer is an orange-caramel coloring with a filmy, white, clingy head. Nose of roast, nut, caramel, sweet potato, and hints of chocolate and cinnamon. Flavors are roast and rich, with nut and caramel throughout, on a slightly bready backbone. Smooth bodied and light, with a sweet and roast aftertaste. Slick, smooth finish. Decent beer.

With a bold maple and caramel taste, the flavor of fall is alive and well in Aviator's beast of a fest beer.

Its caramel character is evident right from the pour- copper and dark honey color sets the tone. Its mild haze gives the beer a slight Amber Ale type of appearance. Darker than the average Oktoberfest, the beer builds a hearty off-white head that dissolves during the second half of the session and retains fairly as well.

Medium-strong aromas celebrate the malt character of Munich and caramel. Its sweeter upstart is pleasantly starchy, toasty, and nutty- coming to the nose like bread crust and maple. With the slightest of hop spice, an almost tea-like character wraps up the aromas.

Even sweeter to taste, all that caramel and savory maple flavor is nutty, lightly butter and brown sugar to remind the palate of french toast. Its nutty flavor becomes the bridge that brings the sweetness to close. Cashews at first turn to walnut-type bitterness late to link up with the herbal tea tones for a semi-crisp yet still savory finish.

Mid-full in body, the beer is certainly heftier than the typical fest bier. Its high residual sweetness is creamy until the carbonation subsides. After which, the sweetness lingers long into finish for a semi-dry closure and firm alcohol warmth.

The beer's overall hefty character allows it to resemble an American Amber Ale as much as it does an Oktoberfest. It lacks the refined elegance of true German Oktoberfest biers but it celebrates something heartier and sweeter. It could definitely stand up to a apple pie or fruit cobbler.

have had this both in growler and bomber - reviewed by the bottle

a: served in a cylinder glass, the beast has an amber maple syrup color, floating a dense coating of off-white carbonation that retains well

s: grainy/bready munich malts on the nose with a nice dose of sweet caramel brown sugar, delicate roasts give a toasted note, nutty, leafy and autumnal, the label describes this as a hopped up o'fest - maybe slightly more than usual, but it's not a standout feature, grassy noble hops, some herbals, a nicely rich oktoberfest aroma

m: carbonation moderate, smooth, light-medium body

t: munich grains bring a bready, nutty grain flavor, sweet caramel, lots of leafy and earthy flavor, grassy hops with a moderate bitter balance to the finish

o: very nice oktoberfest - lots of malt utilized to provide a rich, full character, good hop presence, well rounded - true to style but with some nifty riffs on the typical
